Good choice of a location to stay on the island

Property is nice and in good condition. Owners great - met us at apt for "check-in." Apt is nice, in a nice, well-maintained building with 24-hour security. Pool is well-maintained also. Fitness area is better than expected, although the lights were not working (lit sufficiently for daytime workouts). Apartment well stocked with linens, towels and even some toiletries. Kitchen is nice, with supply of utensils, pots/pans, and even a few food items, probably leftover from other visitors (we did the same). Nice 24-hour grocery store (Pueblo) on the opposite side of the block (about .4 mi walk 1 way). Walgreens out the front door to the left a couple blocks. MANY restaurants within EASY walking distance, fast food to expensive, from US-based restaurants to local ones. If you're like us, avoid things you can eat at home (fast food, Chili's, Outback...). Platos (couple blocks out the door to the right) was good. Piu Bella good, too. Very good excursion company across the street a couple blocks to the right (sign on the street). LOW pressure. Consistent, reliable, professional companies used. This is a good option for some items, since they take care of transportation and logistics (pick you up at the front of the apartment building). Rent a car if you like to explore. Navigation isn't too bad. Parking is expensive, but free and safe at apartment. We went to the mountains to have lunch at a lechonera Anthony Bordain visited. Drove to the S side of the island for scuba one day. Do the bio bay, El Yunque hike/tour. Another option for transportation is the bus. 75 cents (change only...no bills), but research the routes beforehand. And they're not on a schedule, so you may wait. Taxis are abundant, but expensive and unpredictably priced, regardless of what you hear. Same trip differed by seven bucks. Visit Old San Juan. Found a great local diner (only non PRs in there) with great food. Look for non-pretentious local places. Ferry/taxi to Bacardi factory. Try street/beach foods at beach parks (El Escambron park Old San Juan) and near El Yunque - not so healthy, but tastes great. Loved the local foods we found, especially if it was at local restaurants. This is as much about PR as this residence. But this is some stuff I wish I had found prior to my trip, to help pick the area on the island as well as the apartment. Futon is comfortable (14-year-old daughter used it); air mattress available, too. Enjoyed Isla Verde and apartment.
Recommended for:People with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
