Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2006

Greetings! We are Brad and Tara Smith, owners of Glenmerle in Glenville, NC. When we are not busy lining up dream vacations for our guests, Brad is a landscape architect and Tara is a high school guidance counselor. Our primary residence is in Palm Bay, Florida.

Why the Owner Chose Cashiers

The Cashiers area in North Carolina has everything to offer for a perfect get-away. The mountains provide ample hiking with incredible views and waterfalls. Lake Glenville is unique as a lake in this high mountain elevation area. It offers cooling water adventures for the whole family. What better place can you escape the sweltering heat from the South than to relax where the temperature rarely hits 80 in the summer? Cashiers and Highlands feature charming shops and fine dining. Something for everyone!

The Unique Benefits of this House

We fell in love with Glenmerle the moment we visited the house and couldn’t get enough of the killer views. Since we’ve owned Glenmerle, it’s been a joy to share it with others. As we lead our own busy lives, our times at Glenmerle have truly been a retreat. Whether we’re hiking, as shown in this photo taken at Whiteside Mtn, or relaxing on the deck or by the fire, Glenmerle has provided rest for the weary.

What a lovely place you have here! This week has been a time of rest and peace for our souls. We so enjoyed the deck. Coffee out on the deck with a book in the morning and those views just can't be beat. It's back to the real world in the morning, but we will take our memories of Glenmerle with us!

Glenmerle - interesting walks, beautiful waterfalls, serene lake, pleasant, helpful people, a retreat from busyness and pressure - all surrounded by exquisite mountains. We were refreshed and praised God for His creation and your generosity.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for so generously allowing us to rest and revitalize at your beautiful home in Glenville. I don't think either of us realized how much we needed a change of scenery and a respite until we put that first log on the fire. It was great!

We barely know where to begin to describe the amazing days and evenings we spent in your incredible home. We never even left the home for the first two days (actually the deck!) We will always cherish the evenings at the bar, overlooking the lake at sunset, enjoying our one of a kind meals, a glass of wine, and each other's company. We will most certainly return next time for a much longer stay. I have been vacationing in this area since I was 12 and never have I enjoyed a home and a view more. Thank you!

What a lovely place you have here! This week has been a time of rest and peace for our souls. We so enjoyed the deck. Coffee out on the deck with a book in the morning and those views just can't be beat. I began reading A Severe Mercy and couldn't put it down. Don and I spent many hours talking during the week. We ventured down to Cashiers and High Hampton Inn. We also rented a boat from Signal Ridge Marina. The sunsets were spectacular. We will take our memories of Glenmerle with us!

We had such a fabulous time on our first real vacation together! It was a perfect balance of getting outside. White Water Falls is great, as is Sunset Rock in Highlands and The Blue Ridge Parkway and relaxing inside on the blustier days. At Sunset Rock, we got to witness a couple getting engaged. It was quite romantic. I highly recommend heading that way with a bottle of wine and some appetizers!

What a wonderful place to celebrate our 24th anniversary! It was so great to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come to this beautiful home. . . .Took the train ride one day, went into Hendersonville, ate out, cooked in, and just enjoyed still enjoying each other's company. Hope to be able to come again and do more of the outdoor activities this area has to offer. Glenmerle is wonderful! So comfortable and beautiful too. Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful respite! Everywhere I look in Glenmerle, there is some enchanting detail or thoughtful surprise. In a short time, I've found myself saying "look at that!" on too many occasions to count. . . . This morning I enjoyed a quiet cup of tea while watching a ribbon of fog unfold over the lake, and the stillness and wonder of the moment was such a treat. Thank you for such a memorable visit!

We arrived at Glenmerle on the afternoon of Thanksgiving with a crew from Athens, Georgia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at High Hampton Inn & Country Club. Friday was a sunny but crisp fall day, so we hiked to the top of Whiteside Mountain and descended the 142 steps to the overlook at Whitewater Falls. Saturday was rainy, so we made a day of watching college football. We had a great, long weekend here in this beautiful mountain home with beautiful scenery. Thank you.
