We just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week at Bald Head Island. This is our first time staying at Maggie's Place, and it was a great island retreat. This house is very conveniently located to the marina, lighthouse, and beach. From the living room on the top floor, the ocean view is awesome! We took 4 teenagers, and they had a fantastic time. There were plenty of beds, couches, and room to spread out. Richard and Rose have xBox, several bikes, boogie boards, and beach towels and chairs for you to use during your stay. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need - including a Crock Pot! The house is clean, the golf carts are new, and this is a MUST STAY house if you are heading to Bald Head Island. After staying on the island 9 times over the past 15 years, my only suggestion would be to take all the non-perishables you can. If you are driving, take advantage of the space in your car. We took boxes stuffed with paper towels, paper plates, toilet paper, munchies, Ziploc baggies, and anything we thought we would need for the week. The only things we had to purchase at the island store were items which would spoil (milk, bread, meat, cheese, etc). The grocery store is not as expensive as some island stores we have been to, however, some things are 2 or 3 times the price of Walmart on the mainland! Just be sure your boxes are closed and taped before loading them at the ferry terminal. (i.e. You cannot bring grocery bags of stuff!) Have a great stay at one of the last remaining island retreats!

This is our 5th time renting on the island and I must say this home is the best . We have already booked this home for a return trip with family in July. The owners were very accessible and kept us informed of island events. This home has all the ammenities needed for a visit in addition to many extras. The wine fridge, crock pot, beach towels, and rechargeable flashlights are a few of the items that show extra thought and care have been taken to ensure the comfort of guests. The small flashlights on the key rings helped when returning to the home after dark. Having all bedrooms on the lower level with laundry and showers is convenient and helps to keep the common areas free of sand. The quick ice option on the freezer was handy for filling coolers each day for beach trips. The multitude of hangers in each closet is also a plus for those of us who must unpack right away. I noticed at least 6 beach chairs available for use as well as umbrellas and beach toys for the kids. We did not try out the bikes this trip but there were plenty to choose from. Having a few childrens' helmets available is also a plus. Thank you Richard and Rose for providing such a lovely home for renters.

A nice place for a New Year's getaway

Two couples spent four nights at the house over New Year's. We wanted quiet and cozy for a few days. We got that. We had options to eat in or eat out. We drove around the island several times on sunny days to observe all that was going on. House had ample kitchen. Sitting rooms were bright. A few aspects of the home were dated. Good experience for the Winter Price Special. Very responsive owner. Would recommend.

Great Thanksgiving

We spent my 52nd birthday and Thanksgiving with immediate family and had a splendid time. The house is comfortable, clean and well appointed. Assistance and directions from the owner were very helpful. We were well prepared and knew what to expect. The listing was very accurate, and the home was well represented in the pictures on the site. We used the Bald Island Club extensively over the few days. It is a well run and elegant facility. I would recommend this home (and the island) without reservation.

Out family decided on a last minute vacation to Bald Head Island. We had never been before and knew on one other person in our neighborhood who had been. We found Maggies Place on the internet and called Richard, the owner. We found him to be very accomodating and answered all of our questions as we were a little concerned about renting a place sight unseen. Not to worry. This may not be the newest property on the island, but its one of the best deals out there. The two golf carts were the best on the island and perfect when some of us had enough of the beach and wanted some AC. There are plenty of bicycles and crabbing and fishing equipment, beach umbrellas and boogie boards too. The gas grill is brand new. It has everything you think you would need for a week at the beach. We were having a great week until Irene paid a visit. The owners were in constant contact with us and told us what to expect with the evacuations and the ferry. The town posted a voluntary evacuation and we left two days early. Richard was absolutely great. Its very refreshing to do business with honest people who have common sense! We will definitely be back, but hopefully not to see Irene or any of her friends! Bottom Line: One of the best values on the Island owned by one of the most conscientious owners.

This is the third time we rented a house through VRBO and Richard was definitely the best owner we've worked with yet. He sent us lots of information to prepare us for our trip there and continued to send us information throughout the week. We had a wonderful time. Maggie's Place is a beautiful home with a great location as it was very near the ferry landing, the beach and golf course. The kids and adults all enjoyed riding bike around the island...on bikes that Richard provided as part of his home rental. In addition, there were 2 really nice golf carts, sufficient for all 10 of us. The wrap-around porch as well as the 2 balconies were very relaxing places to sit and read. From the porches were were able to watch a doe and 2 fawns almost daily. We had a great week and would highly recommend Maggie's Place if you are considering a visit to Bald Head. Richard is wonderful to work with and his home is a perfect setting. Thanks Richard for sharing your home with us for the week!!

This was our first trip to Bald Head Island. Richard was great to work with! He is very through & he sent us a lot of information to prepare us for our trip there. We had a wonderful, memorable time. The home is lovely & I can't remember a more relaxing vacation. We sat on the porch watching the wildlife go by as well as viewing birds we'd never seen before. Richard has two new golf carts which we used to get around in going to the beach & touring other parts of the island. Such a fun mode of transportation! It's All [Better Than] Good

Everything was as promised and in fine shape. The place is well located. The owner was cordial and responsive and I would be happy to stay there again. While this has nothing to do with the property but with Bald Head in late March, on Mondays and Tuesdays, you can eat at a pleasant tiny place in the golf course parking lot called The Pelicatessan, or you can starve. Literally no other place to eat is open; the grocery store closes at 6pm, so plan ahead. The rest of the week you can have your choice of eating at Eb & Flo's -- or you can eat at Eb & Flo's. ;-)

Owner response:What Jim Says is correct. During the off season a little more planing is required when it comes to eating out. Due to the low volume of renters and visitors it does not pay for restaurants to be open 7 days a week or to keep late hours. most of the restaurants on the Island are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. the Pelicatessen (located near the Club House is open every day till 8 PM and serves a variety of simple foods (fried chicken, pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches, etc.). The Maritime Market has Breakfast and Lunch weekdays and has prepared salads and sandwiches in the cooler. They are open every day until 6 PM and have great meats and vegetables to prepare at home. Other then that Maggie's Place has a very complete kitchen and a brand new 5 burner infra-red Bar-B-Q grill that is great for the steaks and burgers you pick up during normal shopping hours. Starting April 1 the Club House dining will be open 7 days a week and everything else will be starting late hours and everyday services.

We stayed at Maggie's Place to have a nice relaxing vacation away from the hussle and bussle of real life. It was great and the house was nice. We had everything we needed for the kids, sand toys, bikes, helmets. We had bike rides in the evenings. Golf carts were in good condition and working order. Owner was great with communication and giving information and easy to deal with. Not right on the beach but access to the beaches were easy and the house is a great location on the island. Everything was easy to get to.This was a great vacation and when we go back would stay at Maggie's place again.

My husband and I needed a 'get away' - he has his own business, I'm currently working and transitioning into my own business and parents of a 3 year old. I contacted Richard and he was absolutely amazing. He was SO wonderful to work with and very accessable to me. I had planned the trip as a secret to my husband for his birthday on March 1. So, I had to be very quite and plan. Richard was absolutely amazing through the planning and made the arrival VERY special. The house was beautiful and a perfect get away for a perfect, quite, relaxing weekend. I would recommend ANYONE to stay at Maggie's Place and if we EVER get another chance to get away, Richard will be the first person I call.

Every aspect of our trip and experience at Maggie's Place and with the owners was beyond stellar. From the moment we first inquired about availability, Richard was beyond helpful...he was a veritable resource of information on Bald Head island, the details of goings on on the islands, and other tidbits we never would have even thought about. The home is a beautiful house with lovely wraparounds; part of my favorite time on the island was sitting on that porch in his rocking chairs, listening to the soothing sound of the ocean. Maggie's Place is fully equipped...I have stayed at many homes and they have the basics; not Maggie's Place...it had EVERYTHING! In fact, we did thanksgiving there and I'm certain the kitchen was more well-equipped than my own at home! he had a crib!!! and tWO pack in plays, and two perfect golf carts, I can go on and on!!! We cannot wait for our next stay!

We just left Bald Head Island after a week of beaching and swimming. The sad part is that my 5 year-old and 2 year-old were in tears because they had such a good time. Maggie's Place was a great house for our week. All of the bedrooms were located near each other. This allowed for us to be more social upstairs without waking the sleeping kids. The accomodations were perfect. We loaded up the golf carts with the beach necessities that were provided for us. The communication was impeccable from the moment we decided to put down a deposit on the house. I had a long conversation with Richard which put our minds at ease about how easy the rental process would be. The only thing I would have appreciated was some basics that I was surprised couldn't be found (cleaning supplies, toilet paper, laundry detergent). We were pleasantly surprised to find ample beach toys, bikes, and towels! The house felt clean and well kept.

My family and I spent a week at Maggie's Place. We had an absolute great time. For nature lovers there is no better place to visit than Bald Head Island. We saw deer, raccoons, foxes, a huge variety of birds and we even signed up for a turtle walk at night. We were lucky enough to see a 400 Ib sea turtle lay her eggs and then crawl back into the ocean. It was amazing! As for the house and amenities, Richard and Rose did great job of providing everything we needed. The house was very well taken care of and the owners have a true concern for making sure you have a great time. I have stayed at BHI many times over the last few years and I would rate Maggie's Place at the top of my list.

House is emaculate and cozy. Golf carts are superb. Bikes are at the end of their suitability for use (Richard says that a bike upgrade is in the works). Found a cute tree frog on the side of the grill but the previous renter had not cleaned it (the grill, not the frog). We saw a vixen feeding a snake to its kits, a deer, river cooters, fiddler and blue crabs, black widow spider (not in the house), field mouse, toads, toadfish, cannonball jellyfish, sand dollars, etc. Maggie's Place is convenient to the marina, lighthouse, beach and beach club. Ebb and Flo's has pretty good grub (try the hushpuppies) and a great marina view but stay away from the fried seafood. Riverbend is more upscale and had better food than I remember from a visit several years ago. Marina Market has a great deli. If it should rain, Richard has stocked books and DVD's for use. Take advantage of Richard's tips for fun things to do.

Bald Head Island and Maggie's Place were everything we hoped and expected it would be. The house was perfect for our two families (4 adults and 3 teens). We loved the beaches, the Bald Head Island Conservancy and kayaking through the salt marshes -- and having access to pool and tennis at the Bald Head Island Club was the icing on the cake. The view from the top of Old Baldy was spectacular. Maggie's Place is perfectly located, convenient to the ferry, the market and restaurants. The house was spotlessly clean and well-appointed. Richard sent a wealth of information before our trip so we came prepared to jump right in and enjoy our week on Bald Head. We had an absolutely wonderful time, and would recommend Maggie's Place, and BHI to any one. We definitely plan to come back again -- next time to see the turtles.

BHI is THE place to go and Maggie's Place makes it even better. We had lots of room for us and the boys (4 teenagers). The multiple locations to lounge made it seem like three different houses in one. everyone could stake out a spot and just relax. The seclusion of the driveway made it perfect to catch sun out of the spring breeze. We used the grill to have a steak and shrimp meal that fit the locale. Thanks Richard for being such a kind and friendly host; made it all the better.

Maggie’s Place is a lovely home with plenty of space and a very comfortable feeling. Great location with plenty of decks for relaxing. Richard is wonderful to work with and very accommodating. My husband and I have rented several properties on BHI the past few years and no one has been as concerned with providing a wonderful experience as Richard and Rose. we just left yestreday feb 20 after a weeks stay. we have stayed on bald head every year since 1992. not much has changed and it is so peaceful and quiet. this house is by far the most comfortable that we have ever stay in. the beds are comfortable and the living room is large and the furniture is great to sit on. some of the places we have stayed have furniture that is beachy but not very comfortable. Richard is a great guy to deal with. we will rent from him again. feel free to call me if you need any more info on bald head.

We loved eating at Eb & Flo's and cooking in our own kitchen. The Maritime Market was a great place. We enjoyed visiting Turtle Central, Old Baldy Lighthouse, and the beach. We loved it here. Loved the house and appreciate you opening your home to us. We were here for my sisters wedding and a little enjoyment. The Shoals Club and "The Old Baldy Lighthouse" was great although the mosquitoes were terrible. The kids loved the view of all the sailboats. It would be nice to have coat hooks in the garage and foyer for hanging towels. Note from owner: Coat hooks are now located in garage, foyer and outdoor shower/changing room.

Our favorite eating places was the Bald Head Island Club and cooking at Maggie's place. We really loved all the different beaches, The Harbor area and The Shoals Club Area. Your place is wonderful. Perfect for our family.

We really loved everything. For us the outdoor shower was all we used due to sandy kids. I would add hooks in the shower, and in the downstairs foyer. Our at home dinners were best although we had a great beach picnic with the "Maritime Markets" fried chicken. We spent all of our days on the beach. We were lucky enough to see the baby turtles fight their way back to the sea. Thanks so much for opening your home. We loved everything. FYI-we used used one of your beach umbrellas on a windy beach day and it snapped. We would be happy to replace it.

Enjoyed our stay. Your house is very nice. Could use a new toaster. Owners comments: a new 4 slice toaster and electric can opener have been replaced.

This was our second time we stayed at Maggie's Place and we enjoyed it very much! Your home is very well furnished and very comfortable & relaxing. We Loved the Beaches. This is our third vacation in the Outer Banks and the second time at Bald Head Island. We really enjoy our visits. We will be back to Maggie's Place.

We love "Old Baldy". Maggie's Place felt like home even to the "Grandma's Kitchen" sign that delighted this grandma and her granddaughter. We were here as family to attend our 28 year old granddaughter's wedding in the Chapel. what a pleasure to have "Our own home away from home". Thanks for your hospitality. May God bless you.
