Two of us stayed at this nice house recently. It's a good size for two people but I think more than two would find it a little small. Everything was as promised. It is on a quiet street just two houses off of Route 102A. I did not notice a single car go by during our stay on this quiet side rode. Far enough away from 102A, which itself is not that busy, that could not hear this road. We did not cook anything during our stay, just ate cereal for breakfast, made sandwiches once or twice and used the fridge. Mostly ate out. It might be a little tight to do some serious cooking but I can only speculate on that as we did not. Kitchen had EVERYTHING except a dishwasher, if that matters to you. Not a problem for us a s we used minimal. We had been informed before agreeing to stay here that there were steep stairs to get to the sleeping area. Indeed they are steep. I am an athletic 53 year old who bikes about 60 miles a week in an urban area, but I still had to be very careful on the stairs, especially when carrying our bags up and down at beginning and end of our stay. There are good handrails. If you are not up to these steep stairs DO NOT STAY HERE. Internet service was great; no problems. There is a land line. There are great restaurants in Southwest Harbor center, about 1.5 miles away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

This cottage was perfect for 2 - right size, right location. A short & pleasant drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia hiking/biking, but a quiet escape from the rest of the world. The cottage had everything we needed. Local restaurants were good, but we preferred grilling at the cottage while relaxing on the deck and watching the sunset. Southwest Cycle was an excellent recommendation for bike rental - very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable folks work there. A week was not enough to explore everything - we'll be back to take in more of the Quiet Side!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

What a well equipped and clean cabin! Hurricane Irene was scheduled to hit on Sunday and we had more lights and candles than required, just in case. A mile away in SW Harbor one can buy lobster at $3.99/lb on the main street. We intend to return (and have already been to Acadia 4 times).Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed at Spruce Woods in August of 2010, a couple months have passed and we are still wishing we could wake up in Southwest Harbor! The cabin was so perfect, it was so quiet we could hear the water in the harbor. When you lay in bed you feel like you can reach out and grab a star, the night sky is truly amazing. This was our first vacation that after a week we weren't ready to leave! We would recommend Spruce Woods to anyone looking for the perfect getaway.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

my husband and I stayed here in the summer of 2009 on on our honeymoon. the cabin was Lovely! It was very close to all of the sights and sounds of Mt. Desert but remote enough to feel like we were away from the world. We often drove to Bar Harbor for dinner and movies in the evenings. Our stay in Maine included sailing, kayaking, and hiking too and this sweet A frame cabin was perfect to come home to in the evenings. We loved it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
