Enjoy the east end of Long Island and all that it offers (beaches, farm stands, vineyards and more) conveniently from our classic summer beach cottage.

Our private summer cottage is situated in the middle of three tranquil wooded acres with over 200' of beachfront on the Great Peconic Bay. One other house shares the property, a contemporary which is right on the beach (vrbo #188488). The classic summer cottage, circa 1920's, is located in the middle of the property in a wooded glen. Follow the path past woods and beach grass to your own beautiful sandy private beach. It's less than 100 yards from the cottage with no roads to cross, and rarely a person in sight.

The cottage has a picnic table in the shady front yard and a new deck in the back off the screen porch. Inside, there is a spacious living room with cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan, comfy couches and a wood burning fireplace. Cable/TV and wireless Internet are included.

The screened porch provides a private haven on the back of the house with no visible neighbors and rarely a sound other than the birds and the breeze. It's the perfect place to read or nap. A new deck with gas grill just off the screen porch lets you cook and eat in complete privacy.

The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and a private bathroom with a new washer/dryer. The reading room sits between the kitchen and the screened porch and has two full-sized futons plus plenty of light for reading. Upstairs is a large dormitory type of room with three twin beds plus a full-size futon - perfect for kids or for guests.

The kitchen has a refinished hardwood floor and new appliances, sink and countertop. There is a full bathroom with a shower off the kitchen.

We allow well behaved, friendly pets.

We value peace and quiet and discourage parties and loud music. We will not rent to vacationing students or singles under 25 years of age unless accompanied by an adult guardian or parent.

There is NO SMOKING permitted in the cottage.

Rentals are from May 1st thru October 15th as the Cottage is not winterized.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1921

The property has been in my family since 1921 and I have spent most of my summers there. It is a magical and peaceful place.

Some years ago I engaged an architect to advise about converting the cottage to a winterized home for my mom. He was speechless. He said, this is a perfect classic summer cottage. Don't change anything. You would destroy its character by converting it to a year-round home.

So, we keep it as it is, with cathedral ceilings and hard wood floors, a small but serviceable kitchen, a delightfully peaceful screen porch. It is a perfect place for kids and a delightful retreat for adults.

The modern world intrudes with tv, dvd player and high speed wireless internet. But otherwise, you can imagine spending summers there in the 50's as I did.

Charming Seaside Cottage

Guest: Laurel Lover (NY)
Date of Stay: 08/01/05 Review Submitted: 05/25/11

I have stayed at this cottage for a number of years. It was perfect for my family and friends. The combination of a cottage in the woods and a private beach always reminds us that we are in the Adirondacks and the beachside at the same time.It so reminds me of my vacations as a child..ie its connection to nature and seaside serenity. The house has charm and history. If you are looking for a modern sunny white/vanilla house, perhaps this is not the place for you. But make no mistake, between the quiet privacy and your own secluded beach, you will be guaranteed a relaxing vacation. Add to that the gracious owner and her family, and all that the North Fork has to offer...It's what a summer vacation should be.

Rustic, Charming and Mildew Smelling

Guest: Turned Off by my first VBRO Experience (Smithtown, Long Island, NY)
Date of Stay: 05/20/11 Review Submitted: 05/22/11

Rented this "cottage" for a cousins weekend. House is very old and smells damp and moldy. If you overlook that the old small house is not well maintained from the entrance (molding around door looks like termites had a field day and you have to nudge the door for it to open), stove and refrig are mini size, queen bedroom is small and bathroom attached has a water heater as you walk in. All of the doors to porches are old, wooden and hardly open, T. V. did not work and upstairs dorm room has very low ceilings you might consider renting this house. Path to the beach is non-existant and be careful walking down the steps to the beach they are slanted and very dangerous. At high tide there is no beach and lots of flies. The listing is definately sugar coated. The nice thing was the location so close the vineyards and nice restaurant.

Owner response:Our classic summer cottage is just that - a classic reminder of days gone by. When I considered "upgrading" it a few years ago, the architect I consulted said, "Why? It's absolutely perfect! It is solidly built with a handsome great room, a lovely screen porch, and a smaller kitchen and bedrooms reminiscent of the period." When a spring is as rainy as this one has been, it is difficult to get the early "damp" out of the house until we get a few low humidity breezy days. That which might be an issue in mid May (when rates are reduced accordingly) disappears as an issue as the season progresses. The early season dampness also means that the solid wood doors may stick. We have never had a problem with mold or mildew. The path to the private beach is a foot path thru the beach grass. Every spring it takes a little effort to wrest it back Mother Nature. Every year the winter winds and tides and storms impact our beach. Sometimes it's generous, sometimes it isn't. With the usual sea breeze there are rarely bugs, but over this we have no control. What we do control is three very private acres and a classic beach cottage maintained and restored to the period. It will never suit those looking for a sleek contemporary, but will delight those who remember cottages from their youth and are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy ours.
