Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2001
We are retired and live in the home with the guest rooms. We are in St. Thomas about 8 months a year. We spend most of our time helping our guests, going to the beach, boating and just relaxing.
Why the Owner Chose Other Sapphire Beach Properties
This home was destroyed by a hurricane in 1996. It is right above Sapphire Beach were we also rent a two bedroom condo on the beach. For years we walked looked at this home and thought about rebuilding but the timing was not right. Then retirement came into the picture so we purchased it in 2001 and retired in 2003. We were taken back by the views this home offers and the breezes and its closeness to Sapphire Beach which we love. The home was built in the 1950's and was THE home on the east end of ST. Thomas. It is a Caribbean type home with a large enclosed deck area and many round features. We have rebuilt this home with each guest room having a different theme. The Captain's Room is done in a nautical style. The Palm room is done in a light Caribbean style.
The Unique Benefits of this Studio
We offer these rooms at an affordable rate that can save guests a lot of money. We have a pool, and each room has it's own bath room, king size bed, AC, microwave and TV. We get to meet a lot of people as they come to the islands. Some for vacation, some looking for new jobs. We work with each person so that they get the most out of their stay.

Breath taking views with amazing sunrises. A lovely spot to get away from it all for a bit and just relax. The near by beach is not very crowded and very nice. And if you don't feel like making the short walk to the beach you can walk down to the pool on the property for a dip and enjoy the veiw from there. Owners are very nice and know all the ins and outs of the Island.

My husband and I were looking for a nice quiet getaway for a long weekend. We were lucky to have found this place. The views will take your breath away. Our room was quiet and peaceful. My husband and I took full advantage of the pool and long walks on the beach. It was like a second honeymoon. Peggy and Bill were so gracious and made us feel right at home. I was a bit sad when we had to leave. But I am already looking forward to our next visit.

THE PROPERTY: This is such a cool property! The pictures don't really do it justice. First off, the property is sooo unique. Peggy told us that it was built as an executive vacation retreat for some corporation (I can't remember which she said.) It has a huge center courtyard with the most insane views I may have ever seen. There are 3 or 4 circular bungalows around the perimeter of the courtyard, with their own views. And there is a private pool downstairs (although we didn't use it). There is also a living room with a TV, dvd player (in addition to the one in the room) that Peggy & Bill welcomed us to use. There are two adorable kittens that come around and visit, Midnight & Nightmare. THE ROOM: We stayed in the Palm room and were pleasantly surprised how much bigger and more modern it was than what I expected from the pictures. It has a comfortable king bed, a little fridge which Peggy stocked with water for us and a microwave. The bathroom was modern and nice. Peggy gave us many towels for the shower as well as beach towels. Wish we could've gotten the air conditioning colder but might have been our mistake (I think the remote was in spanish). THE LOCATION: The property is super convenient for a getting to the beach. It is about a 10 minute walk. If you don't rent a car, it is a little trickier to get to Red Hook. You can either take a taxi which costs $8 for 2 people from the main road outside the property, or it seemed as when we had them drive us all the way in (the property has a suppppper long driveway) they charged $10. Or there is a safari bus that runs till sundown for $1 that you can flag down from the main road. The property was only a mile from Red Hook and I assumed we could walk when I booked the place, but the road doesn't really have anywhere to walk. So that was the only thing I hadn't really planned for, but definitely not a big deal. THE HOSTS: Peggy & Bill were really friendly and helpful. Bill came and picked us up from the ferry and took us to the house. He also drove us to the airport for a small fee the day we were leaving. They gave us lot of good tips on restaurants, let us use their snorkeling gear and were very helpful. In conclusion, we were really happy with our stay and the price was definitely very affordable compared to the other alternatives on the Island. Thanks again!
Owner response:So, glad you came to stay with us. We enjoyed your company also. We try to "help" our guests as much as we can, so their stay in St. Thomas will be as rewarding as possible. Please come and stay with us again. Peggy & Bill

I have to admit this was our first VRBO rental. We were nervous about renting this way. I can only say WE LOVED IT! It was everything the listing said it was. It's a beautiful home with an interesting history. It has wonderful views (I still look at the pictures every day). The guest house is just the right size for 2 people. It has cute decor, huge bed, a fridge, a private bath and lots of windows. Everything we wanted. We really did enjoy our stay. Peggy and Bill were very nice. They told us of a couple of their favorite spots to eat which made our trip even more enjoyable. We would recomend this property to a friend and we'd love to come back. Thank you again

I was arriving in St. Thomas alone prior to a sailing cruise and wanted a safe, inexpensive place to stay for a few nights. Bill and Peggy's place was just perfect. They made me feel like one of the family, yet I had lots of privacy. The Palm Room had an indescribable view from 2 sliding glass doors which led to 2 small balconies. It was very private with its own entrance, a nice size room with queen size bed, a microwave and small refrigerator, table and chairs and my own updated bathroom. I could use their pool or walk down the hill to Sapphire Beach, a beautiful beach with lots of shade trees. It's very convenient to Red Hook and the ferries to other islands. Peggy even offered to buy some groceries to have when I arrived.
Owner response:Thank you for the lovely review. It was a pleasure to have you stay with us. I do have one comment, the bed is a KING. Other then the bed size mix up, you did a real nice write up. Thank you. Hope to see you again soon. Peggy & Bill

We lived in this place from Jan 1st to Jan 10th, 2011, and enjoyed our vocation there. First of all, the room has a fantastic view. You can see the Sapphire Beach from the large patio. The room is facing the east, therefore if you can get up early, you can see the gorgeous sunrise in St.Thomas right from your window. I took a lot of nice pictures just on the patio. Second, this place has a great location. It is walking distance to the Sapphire Beach, which is a great place for snorkeling. Also it is only 3 minutes driving to the Red Hook, where you can take ferry to St.Johns, and find a lot of good restaurants. Considering its price, this guestroom is even nicer. The room is large and clean, with a King-size bed. It has an individual bathroom, an microwave oven, a mini-fridge, an air-conditioner, TV/DVD player (you can borrow DVDs from the host), several drawers and and a large closet, which make it an ideal place to live. Last but not least, the two hosts, Peggy and Bill, are extremely warm and helpful people for us. Peggy made our bed and clean the room every other day. She gave a lot of towels to us (which is quite helpful when we spend a lot of time on beach), and dried them everyday. On the other hand, Bill gave us many great suggestions/recommendations about travelling in US.Virgin Island. Without his help, we couldn't enjoy USVI so much when facing numerous unknown beaches and restaurants. He was a local tour-guide for us and chatting with us every night to ensure that we can have a good time. And they make our trip even more better by providing some extra help: getting us snorkeling gears, helping us fix our tire problem in the rented car, providing nice maps of St.Thomas and St. Johns. Due to the space limitation we cannot write in more detail. Overall they are very nice hosts and we are really grateful for their kindly help. We would certainly recommend this place to my friends and relatives, and choose this place if we are going to visit USVI in the future.
Owner response:Thank you staying with us. We enjoy chatting with our guests. We always ask them if they have any questions about the island, what to do, where to eat, etc. The sunrises are the best. I have taken so many many pictures of the sun peeking out over St. John. The sunrises move from one end of St. John to the other during the year. So they are never the same, always somewhat different, but always great. Sometimes just a little pink rises up through the clouds. Other times the morning sky is afire with bright red. And always a great way to greet the morning. I especially love it when the colors of the early morning are reflected in the water. It looks sort of like a watercolor painting, with the swirling colors of blue, green, aqua, pink, purple, and sometimes even reddish. Spectacular! I am a morning person, so rising to watch the sun rise is a natural. I do try to impress on our guests that if they can pull themselves out of bed early to see the sunrises, they will not be disappointed. And an extra fringe benefit of getting up to greet the sun, is that now you and the sun are both up for the day - you might as well go to the beach and snorkel. The early snorkeler sees so many more fish. Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you again soon.

My girlfriend and I recently need a place to stay one night before continuing onto BVI for out Yacht Charter. Instead of staying in a hotel, we chose to find a small condo or room on VRBO and stumbled onto this place. Looked charming and the price was right. We communicated with Bill and Peggy via e-mail and booked the place. Then, they offered to pick up us from the Airport at 10 at night AND stocked the mini-fridge with some beers at our request. And finally, Bill gave us a ride to the Ferry in the morning. The room was clean and decorated very nicely, as was the bathroom. They have a pool but we didn't get to use it and I can't say how accessible they are to ST attractions but they appear to be very near to the water/beaches, etc. Overall, it was a great stay for us and we would do it again.
