We invite you to stay in our comfortably and tastefully decorated 1840 four-bedroom PA German Farmhouse and cozy Smokehouse Guest Cottage with fireplace and loft nestled in the middle of 83 acres of rolling Pennsylvania countryside. The Pennsylvania Farmhouse is a simple log frame structure with white German siding with two front doors, typical architecture for the mid-1800's. The cottage has a large central stone fireplace and was used as a smokehouse and summer kitchen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Situated in beautiful Adams County, we are located approximately three miles from the historic colonial town of East Berlin, PA (population: 1,400), founded by Pennsylvania Germans in 1764 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The property has a beautiful, fenced in-ground pool, Pennsylvania bank barn, 3-car garage, lovely views, and privacy and is an excellent base for relaxation and exploration of nearby Gettysburg (25 minutes), Hershey (45 minutes), Lancaster's PA Dutch Country (less than 1 hour), Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. Our farmhouse is registered as a Civil War Building (built prior to 1863) and has received recognition from Historic Gettysburg-Adams County, Inc. as a home restored to its original 1840's era. World-wide travelers will find many French and European touches, including original art, classic and contemporary books, and handmade pottery in both the farmhouse and cottage.
Sleeping Accommodations:
PA German Farmhouse (sleeps up to 8): Our beautifully simple and classicly historic PA German farmhouse has four bedrooms on the second floor, three with a double bed and one with two single beds. All are furnished with antique dressers, desks, and lovely bed linens.
Pre-Civil War-era Smokehouse Guest Cottage (sleeps 2-4): This cozy country cottage has one loft-style bedroom with double bed on the second floor and a comfortable pull-out sofa bed (double bed, which sleeps 2) in the living room. The huge fireplace in the center of the cottage was once used by early farmers to smoke meats. It was later used as a summer kitchen to cook and can fruits and vegetables that were grown on the property.
Writer's Studio (sleeps 2): We also have a small Writer's Studio on the property which has 2 single beds and is available at the cost of $35/person/night, if you have more than 12 people.
Our property is perfect for family reunions, friends' get-togethers, and girlfriend getaways.
Small Weddings welcome (50 people or less). We would be glad to give recommendations for tent rental, caterers, photographers, and videographers.
Please ask about pets because we do make exceptions.

Best relaxing vacation ever!

Can't say enough about this place! It brought family from the Buffalo and Syracuse, NY area as well as Rocky Mount, VA and all agreed it was the best vacation we'd all had in a long time. We fell in love with the pictures and the description and in reality, they just didn't do it enough justice. We relaxed by the pool, which was beautifully maintained and had a fence with two gates, countless days and enjoyed watching the kids swim while we caught up on life. An extra surprise was having two twin beds in the pool house which were taken advantage of for afternoon naps. The volleyball net was set up close by (nice and sturdy, by the way) so we adults could "play". The garage was stocked with bikes, balls, games as well as the pool house with pool toys. Endless yard space! I especially loved my mornings in the rocking chairs on the front porch while enjoying my coffee. The house was loaded with charm!!!! Barbara and Forry certainly put a lot of heart into the property. The beds and linen were so comfortable and cozy and there was just something so peaceful about the place in general. Our kids are 4, 7, 10 and 12 and it was a place where you could just let them run and not worry about a thing. I wished I had a few more days just for all the books that were throughout the house. So enjoyable!! We spent a few days visiting Hershey Park, Gettysburg and Lancaster.......all within a short distance. Grocery shopping for all your needs was 5-10 minutes away. So much convenience, yet so much country life!!!!! It was the perfect location for all of our needs. Also, a special thanks to Forry for taking time out to take some family pictures for us. The gesture that you thought was so small, was so huge to us! We'll never forget your hospitality and the joy your place gave to us!

We visited last summer, and are very excited to be visiting again in a few weeks. We've stayed at many VRBOs, and this one is our favorites by far. The pool was a delightful place for our family to relax and have fun, and the view from the pool (at the top of a small hill) is remarkable. We had large picnics on the lawn, relaxed in rocking chairs on the covered porch, played games in the yellow and blue dining room that reminded us of Monet's kitchen, and enjoyed reading the many fine books distributed throughout the house. We had an opportunity to meet the owners, who were very helpful, considerate, and thoughtful. They cherish their home, and it shows in all the details throughout the property. I am very impressed with families who share their homes so generously. The photos at the listing website are lovely, but I think the home and grounds are even more beautiful. The cottage is wonderfully charming. My parents stayed there, and it gave them a nice place to retreat and take a nap after a day of playing with children. We visited the Gettysburg battlefield and museum (twice), climbed the tower at the battlefield, had ice cream at a parlor in town, and bought flowers and vegetables at a farm market. The house and cottage, grounds, and nearby area are a perfect place for a family vacation if you want a combination of serenity, outdoor fun, and American history.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. The kids could be just as loud as they wanted to be and they really liked the lighted pool. We didn't have to be concerned about disturbing the neighbors, and the kids could be themselves. My 2 year old niece has now proclaimed this as "her house" and she did not want to leave. This property is absolutely amazing and Barbara and her husband are very wonderful to work with. They were very cordial and took the time to make sure everything was going good. I actually received an e-mail from Barbara before we even made it home, wanting to know if we had arrived home safe and if everything had gone well. Just a wonderful experience for all involved, including my parents, who are in their 70's. This is the first time we have ever done a family vacation with all of my brothers and sisters, my parents, and nieces and nephews and everyone from the youngest to the oldest wanted to stay longer. We are already planning to do it again.

Siblings with spouses and kids (14) met and enjoyed this beautiful property. It is much larger than the pictures, grounds are beautiful which made it great to play with all the lawn toys provided. We loved the two picnic tables which gave us plenty of room to eat every night. Saw a fox, ground hogs, rabbits and of course, all the wonderful birds singing to us early in the morning. The swimming pool was a big plus after a warm day of lawn games or exploring the area. It was a wonderful reunion and everyone loved the property.
