Islands Sands is oceanside on Maalaea Bay, and has been very popular with visitors over the years. Just some of the amenities that Island Sands offers are a location on a peaceful dead end street, a heated pool with gas BBQs and picnic tables, a beautiful garden setting, and reserved parking. Complementary doughnuts and coffee provided Friday morning in the pool area is a great way to meet locals and fellow visitors.
Our unit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium with a beautiful ocean view. We have furnished our unit so we feel at home during our stays on Maui, and we are sure you will feel comfortable as well. Many of our guests return every year for their vacation. The condo comes fully furnished, including linen, bathroom towels, and beach towels. The fully-equipped kitchen contains a dishwasher, microwave, and washer/dryer. We have cooling ceiling fans throughout, and an air-conditioner, which we rarely use since the Hawaiian trade winds that come through Maalaea keep the temperature just right. Cable TV and DSL High-Speed Internet Access is available.
Our unit is on the ground floor. I mention this because some visitors think they get better views from higher floors. We love our view, and much prefer being able to enter the unit through the garden versus having to take elevators or stairs and a hallway every time we go to the pool or poolside barbeque, or every time we leave and return home.
Maalaea is considered by some to be one of Hawaii’s “Best Kept Secrets”. It’s central location between Lahaina and Wailea allows easy excursions to all parts of the island. The popular destination spots in Makena, Wailea, Kaanapali and Kapalua are all within a half hour drive of this small ocean front community. Walk 5 minutes one way from Island Sands to a 4-mile long beach and an extensive natural wetlands; the morning walks on this secluded beach are memorable. Walk the other way from Island Sands to Maalaea Village and Harbor. Maalaea Village has the wonderful Maui Ocean Center aquarium, shops, and restaurants (including Maui’s only 5-star restaurant, the Waterfront). Maalaea Harbor is the center for boat trips that offer snorkeling, fishing, sunset cruises, dinner cruises, and whale watching. Or stay ‘home’ and, while having a cocktail on your lanai or barbequing oceanside next to the pool, watch the breaching humpback whales (November-April) or Hawaii’s talented surfers take on the challenging “Freight Train”. The sun rise over Haleakala is magical.

Randy's mother has a condo in Maalaea at Island Sands, and we bought the next door unit. No better place to visit Mom than Maui.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
Barbequing by the ocean, and, in season, watching the whales breach or the surfer's riding the 'freight train' wave while we do it. We love having a ground level condo, being able to go thru the garden to the pool or poolside barbeque rather than using stairs, elevator, or hallway. A central location on Maui, making travel to all other parts of the island easier, while being able to return to a quiet location on the island.

Randy is retired from the computer business, and Maria has been in fashion sales and teaching. Randy is a gringo who speaks only English, while Maria is Chilean and completely bilingual in English and Spanish. We own homes in beach communties of Santa Barbara, Maui, and Zapallar, Chile; we obviously like to follow the sun. We live to snorkel, bodysurf, and golf. Since 2003, we have been in travel mode, visiting such places in the USA as Alaska, Hawaii, Utah, New England and the Pacific Northwest, and going overseas to South America, Thailand, and Europe.

The condo, the location and the weather were all great. The owners did a great, quick job of getting the place ready for us after some flooding and mud damage only days before we got there. We were close to everything. A little cramped for space in the kitchen area, but adequate for 2 couples, and would recommend the site. .
Recommended for:Age 55+.
