With whale-watching, sunsets, and swaying palm trees in between, this top-floor, one-bedroom unit has one of the best views in South Kihei. Located at the back of the complex, it is high up and has no street noise--only the rhythm of the surf washing up on beautiful Kamaole II Beach, just in front of the complex and a quick walk down the lushly landscaped drive. Safe for kids and novice swimmers, and one of only three life-guarded swimming beaches in Kihei, this pristine stretch of sand is backed by a park with restrooms and showers, and cradled by rocky points on either side where snorkelers may swim with tropical fish and sea turtles.
The unit's spectacular Western view encompasses the West Maui mountains, the islands of Lanai, Kahoolawe and Molokini, and continues on southward to the palms and golf courses of Wailea. Sunset is the event of the day year-around; from the comfortable swivel chairs at the bistro table on the lanai you will enjoy a clear view of the sun sinking into the Pacific, as well as the sounds of the conch-blowers and the whisper of the palm fronds as evening falls.
But here's the best part! The comfortable unit has recently undergone a high-end update, including solid maple cabinets, slab granite countertops with tile backsplash, new appliances, new furniture, carpets and decor, a queen Beautyrest bed in the bedroom plus queen sofa sleeper in the living room. Also included are a completely outfitted gourmet kitchen, computer desk with complimentary high-speed wireless internet access for your laptop, TV/DVD, stereo and CD player, and even original artwork.
Beach chairs and beach towels, coolers and other fun amenities are provided for your convenience, as are all necessary linens and table decor.
Less than one block away is a wide selection of restaurants, shops, and small grocery stores--no need to get in your car several times a day. Why the Owner Chose Kihei Akahi
It's simply "no ka oi" - the best! Cleanest ocean water on Maui (no agriculture upcountry), sweetest outlook due west with outlying islands, best whale-watching, and safest swimming beaches in Kihei. Two-block walk to family restaurants and shops, easy access to Kahului and airport.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
I love to be outdoors--whether it's hiking, swimming, suntanning, or watching sunsets. I hike across Haleakala every year (to make sure I can still do it!) and tell my guests about other wonderful places to explore in my guest book. I think there can't be more lovely nor safer swimming beaches than the Kamaole Beaches--no rocks, gentle surf, water as clear as glass and as caressing as silk. And I make new friends down around the pool and barbecue grills every time I visit, but I can always retreat to the peaceful surroundings of my top-floor eyrie to watch the sunset and comtemplate the beauty of this magical island.
Right in front of the Kihei Akahi is the crosswalk to Kam II beach with lifeguards (one of only three lifeguarded beaches in Kihei,) safe swimming and snorkeling, restrooms, and acres of golden sand.
From Moose McGillicudys, Fred's Mexican, Cafe O'Lei to Maui Tacos and Pizza Hut, the Kamaole shopping area is a veritable playground of fun and varied restaurants interspersed with cool shops.
The point at the south end of Kam I hosts a veritable aquarium of tropical fish and a growing colony of sea turtles! The one-third mile long beach itself is popular for swimming and stand-up surfing
Want to try surfing? The Cove is the perfect place for gentle waves that give confidence to a beginner. Surfboard rentals are available most days right there at the curb.
There's a beautiful new play structure at the park, along with beach volleyball, picnic areas, and a new shoreline path.
Look here for terrific buys on local handicrafts, interesting local restaurants, and lots of Hawaiian treasures to take home
Foodland, a complete grocery store, is just a mile north of Kihei Akahi and an interesting walk. Next door is the Kukui Mall with theaters and a Starbucks for your morning coffee or afternoon slushie
For true high-end shopping (think Tiffany's and Tommy Bahama) stroll the lovely shops and enjoy fine galleries and restaurants in a tropical setting
A spectacular 1-mile public walkway in front of all the lavish Wailea resorts - come here to whale-watch, people watch, and detour for shopping and fine restaurants, or a sunset cocktail
New shopping center with the largest Safeway in Hawaii, plus Hilo Hattie's (great Hawaiian trinkets and souvenirs) and many smaller shops to browse.
Owner's Map of Kihei Akahi
That's me welcoming my grandaughter on her second visit to Maui, an island with a good bit of my family's history intertwined. When my folks started coming to Hawaii in the 'fifties, they visited each island, then narrowed it to each location on Maui, and ended up in Kihei, just the best! Best access, best beaches, best weather, and nicest people. So when I decided I had to have a place of my own, they had done all the work for me! I have loved this location and my sweet condo with its large view for nearly 20 years now, remodeled it twice, and have a harder time every year dragging myself back to Seattle where my job is. But if I never left, I wouldn't be able to share it with all the wonderful guests I've welcomed over the years. I hope you will join them!

We had the fotunate opportunity of spending a week in the wonderful accomodation. It exceeded our expectations. The unit with its upgrades made our stay most comfortable. The breeze generated through the window design provided a very pleasant temperature. In addition, the view from the balcony was magnificent. The proximity to the beach was great. We would definately return to this location in the future.

From early morning coffee time on the lanai (listening to the birds and looking out at the outstanding view), to walking on the beach, playing in the surf, and ending our day watching the sun set while enjoying a glass of wine with a fine bbq'ed meal...our stay at this property was great! The owner provides all the amenities you'll need for a pleasant stay. From a well stocked kitchen, to everything that you'll need for a day at the beach....cooler, beach chairs, mats and towels. This condo is tastefully decorated, well maintained, and clean. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in beautiful Kihei, Maui.

This is our 8th time in Maui, 7th time at the Akahi - and must say your unit is super: the view, the decor - you have done a wonderful job.It is so kind of you to share your home with others. We definitely hope to be back. We have been here for a month...time at the beach, then at the pool, and many hours on the lanai watching whales and the sunsets. Such a beautiful, relaxing holiday. Two days of windy days so I had to take my husband shopping! Most of our meals were Bar-B-Q: met so many nice people down at the grills.

Your condo is awesome. Enjoyed breakfast on the lanai. The books on Maui were most helpful in planning our hiking adventures. Spent most time hiking with some sightseeing & kayaking mixed in. Didn't read a newspaper, use a computer or watch TV the entire week...a breath of fresh air from our daily grind. Did see whales and more sea turtles than we could count. Love the gecko wall hanging. The high table and chairs on the lanai are great - prevents the railing from blocking the incredible view.

Our stay at this property was wonderful! This was one of the best units we have stayed at in this complex. The owner has done a wonderful job of decorating and maintaining this gorgeous unit. The view is spectacular and we spent most of our two weeks on the lanai enjoying the weather and the view. The location is superb -- close to the beach, shopping, restaurants. We thank the owner for sharing this gorgeous property with us and hope to once again get back to use this condo in the next couple of years. We have already recommended it to friends.
