Owner's Profile
Owner Description
John and Sue enjoy living and working on the Grand Marais Harbor. Sue is the County Commissioner for District 3. John is an artist and paint contractor.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Marais
The Jackson House was home to Sue Hakes Realty from 2003 thru 2008. During that time, we had so many positive comments about the charm of the Jackson House it felt natural to transform the Jackson House into a vacation rental property.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Because we live just 1 block from the Jackson House we never have the pleasure of staying there. However, we thoroughly enjoy spending time with friends and families when they are guests at the Jackson House. Drinking morning coffee on the deck is a wonderful way to start any day.

My parents and I just spent a week at Jackson House and it was an ideal place to spend time away from home. It's just one block from the North House Folk School and within walking distance of pretty much everything in town including the waterfront, charter fishing boats, library, restaurants, bars, etc. The house itself is fully equipped with nice quality linens (bedding, towels) and the kitchen is well-stocked with dishes and cooking implements and there are even books and movies for those quiet stay-at-home evenings. There is a charcoal BBQ in the backyard along with a fire pit and enough parking space for three or four cars so what else could you want? I would happily stay here again and thank Sue for her hospitality. I would happily stay here

A great place in winter, too! Sledding, snowshoeing, skiing all nearby, and when an ice storm hit the home was a perfect cozy place to weather out the storm and play games and relax. The Jackson house is a warm, inviting and a wonderful place to spend the holidays! Kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need and the view is gorgeous from the deck. Fantastic to be able to have our pets along to participate in our vacation, as all of our outdoor activities include them! My husband said he couldn't imagine a more perfect place to unwind after returning from a deployment in the Middle East. Thanks again, we will definitely return!

We LOVED the Jackson House. It is one block from town but feels secluded on a wooded lot. We enjoyed walking in town with our dog each morning and evening. We loved being able to come home and cook our own meals. We brought our dog and it was nice to have a yard for her to use. The owner provides just about everything you could need during your stay (dishes, silverware, cookware, paper towels, lots of fresh towels, etc.) We felt very at home here. The property owner is very nice. We enjoyed meeting her. I would stay here again in a minute. This property is very nice. It is our first VRBO rental and we were quite pleased.

This is a great location - call it "park, stay, & walk" to where ever you want to go in Grand Marais. It's dog friendly too - thank you! Just remember to pick up up your dog "poo" so you get invited back!!! A great view of the harbor from the deck is an added bonus while you enjoy a cup of morning java. It's a great classic vintage house too.

Our stay at the Jackson House offered everything we could ask for in a Grand Marais get-away. We were clean, warm, dry and comfortable. We could cook our own meals when we wanted, and we were within walking distance to the many fine restaurants when we wanted to eat out. John and Sue have made every effort to ensure that a stay at the Jackson House is pleasurable. They were gracious hosts who were accessible and willing to see that we had all the comforts of home. Over the years, we have made many trips to Grand Marais; in the future, when we're not camping, we will definitely return to the Jackson House.

Welcome! My husband, John Gorski, and I are excited to offer the Jackson House to Grand Marais visitors, friends and family. It's a great place from which to enjoy all that our area has to offer. We are working now to prepare and ready the property so that our guests are comfortable and have everything they need. We hope to have our guest home ready to go by mid-June of 2008. It is our hope that each and every person who stays with us has a wonderful experience and comes back often! We hope to see you soon!
