Charming and Elegant Retreat Near the Heart of Flagstaff

Year Purchased: 2007

Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff

Kevin and a business partner purchased this Flagstaff home in late 2007, intending to remodel and then sell it. After the remodel was completed, they realized what a wonderful vacation home it would be—for us and others as well! Working together, the two partners furnished and decorated it. We stay as often as we can, trying to think of everything a guest would need to be comfortable.

The Unique Benefits at this House

In July 2009 we bought out Kevin’s partner. Ever since, we've enjoyed talking with people from all over the United States and the world who travel to Flagstaff to see the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, Walnut Canyon and much more, then relax after a long day of sightseeing, hiking or skiing!

Best Vacation of Our Lives!

Guest: Lori (Downingtown, PA)
Date of Stay: 04/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/11

Our vacation in Arizona couldn't have been any better. Everything was perfect...the weather, our rental car, and especially this rental house! It was the ideal place for my mother, my two children, my husband, and myself to stay while we visited many of the national parks, like The Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon, Meteor Crater, Sunset Crater, Sedona(AWESOME!), and The Hoover Dam. The house is nicely decorated and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. My mother loved it that there were tissue boxes in every room. I always wanted to see a snow capped mountain in person, and right outside the front door is the highest mountain in Arizona, Humphries Mountain. We saw this mountain from many of the parks we visited, so after a while we started calling it 'our mountain.' The kitchen is beautiful and very well stocked. All we needed to purchase was food. In the evenings, we really enjoyed having a fire in the fireplace. I can't say enough nice things about Kevin and Kellie - they were a real delight to work with. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting Arizona! This vacation was the best we've ever had!

We stayed at this property for 4 nights in January and it was perfect --- wood burning fireplace (and wood!) Plenty of blankets and towels, starter coffee, comfortable beds, and super-clean, no clutter. Easy drive to skiing, beautiful wooded park across the street ... I recommend this rental, for sure!

Great place to stay!

We rented this place for a week during our Mini-moon. The house was absolutely comfortable. Maybe it was decorated more in our style but this place felt like home when we got there. The house is very close to the Historic Downtown Flagstaff area (about 2 minute drive) and that was great for us because we wanted to get the "small town feel" and walk around looking through shops, grabbing lunch, etc. When we got there, first thing I noticed was the folder they had put on the kitchen counter. It had step-by-step directions to the nearest grocery store, list of restaurants separated by type, and a basket full of brochures from different places to visit. Even though we came pretty much armored with our schedule and places we want to go, if you came here for a chill weekend and wanted to "wing it", this folder and basket would have helped a lot. Even though the house is older, it has been remodeled to a more modern standard. It was spacious. However, we felt that the master bathroom was too small (except for the amazingly massive shower). I did my hair in the guest bathroom because that was much bigger. For those who are super light sleepers that get extremely paranoid once the lights turn off (like me), the heater made a rather loud and frightening (the first couple of times you hear it) sound when it would start up. So perhaps ear plugs would have helped with that. This house has the coolest window treatments. It's hard to explain but you will definitely leave with some ideas of how you want to decorate your place too. Speaking of window treatments, I wish the kitchen windows had a curtain or shutters on them. They are bare and I did not like being that exposed, especially at night. But it seemed like the neighborhood was a safe place to be, so, that probably isn't a huge concern. We were too busy, but, if you are into bike rides in the morning or evening with your significant other, they have two bikes in the garage. The garage is 2 car but each car side has its own door. We have a tiny Honda accord and it was hard for us to get in and out. We have no idea how other cars would be in there. I would suggest that if they can afford it, upgrade to just 1 garage door so people don't have to worry about damaging the car and the house. There is a very big tennis court across the pavement from the house. This house was very well equipped. We would definitely look into visiting this place again for our next visit to Flagstaff.

Owner response:A very detailed review! We're very glad these guests enjoyed the house on their "mini-moon"! This is a beautifully remodeled older home. The kitchen windows look out on the side yard which is well protected by an iron fence and gate. It's true, though: We hated to cover up the beautiful Flagstaff skies, so that's why those two windows, over the sink and counter, are the only ones with no modern window treatments. They have new, dual-paned clear glass windows above the diamond tile splashguard and granite counters.

Everything and more!

Guest: Ipolani (Hilo,Hawaii)

From the moment we entered the house we felt warm and cozy. Spacious, yet intimate it allowed for all of us - 6 - to enjoy group time as well as individual quiet moments. The home is terrifically equipped with all the amenities one could hope for. The kitchen and den were our favorite gathering place for games, good food and laughter. The yard space allowed for our daughters and grand-daughter to throw snow balls and create a snowlady complete with leis from our Hawaii! The fireplace warmed our toes and nose! The park across the street and the friendly neighbors gave it a true home away from home feeling. We thank you!

My husband surprised me with a little Birthday getaway to this lovely home in Flagstaff. We were so happy to see the house just as it was pictured above, neat and beautiful and incredibly clean! I loved that it is located right across from a beautiful wildlife park/hike. We really enjoyed being able to go for a beautiful walk right outside the front door. The home was very well stocked with all we needed to enjoy ourselves like we were at our very own home :) Thankfully the owner also includes lists of restaurant recommendations which proved so helpful in choosing where to go for dinner. We eagerly look forward to making plans to come back and enjoy this wonderful rental and have already recommended it to many of our friends.

This was one of the cleanest homes I have stayed in. Pictures don't do this home justice as I was very pleased with my stay. I would recomend this home to anyone staying in Flagstaff.

Owner response:Many guests have commented the same thing. We work hard to make sure our house stays that way and are glad you noticed!

This house is beautiful! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and were so impressed with the house. The owners were so helpful, Kevin even gave us the inside scoop on places to go hiking and good area restaurants. Kevin and Kellie thought of everything in this house...plenty of towels, extra blankets, fully equipped kitchen and more! We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Flagstaff area. Thank you Kevin & Kellie!

Owner response:Thank you! As far as we know, this couple is the first honeymooners who have ever stayed at our house, and we're glad to know they enjoyed their time in Arizona. We had a special gift just for them to celebrate!

4 nights in Flagstaff

Roomy, comfortable property that worked well for a wheelchair user that had some help and a little mobility. We would have happily stayed for longer. BBQ was great - never seen a main line gas one before.

Owner response:We're relieved the house worked well for you. In all of our correspondence, you never mentioned that one of you would be using a wheelchair! It is a comfortable house, but unfortunately not wheelchair accessible in every aspect. Thank you for so much for staying at V&R. In a handwritten note, this guest suggested we get a tea kettle for the kitchen. An excellent idea. We have done that now, and also provided a selection of tea!

Wonderful Vacation Home

Guest: Ian B.
Date of Stay: 08/02/11 Review Submitted: 09/10/11

A beautiful house ideally situated in Flagstaff. The owners have thought about how to provide the perfect vacation house which they have. The little extras, tennis racquets, cooler boxes, information packs and night lights make your vacation easier and create a home from home. The park opposite is beautiful and ideal for the kids to chill, run around and play Basketball/Tennis. The owners were extremely helpful during the booking process as correspondence was from the UK to the US and transactions were from Pounds to Dollars. The house was cleaned to a very high standard with good quality linen and towels. Shops, Restaurants and Amenities were all close and anything needed and where to get it was supplied in the information pack. I would definitely return, we had a fantastic time but due to time restraints were not able stay longer, we would have loved to. I would highly recommend this house to anyone exploring northern Arizona.
