From this private, 2 story hilltop home located on the Kailua end of Kaneohe above Kaneohe Bay (it's a 6 minute drive to Kailua town and beach, a few minutes more to Lanikai beach, and less than 10 minutes to Kaneohe town), you'll have PANORAMIC POSTCARD VIEWS from nearly every room -- sailboats on the bay (the weekly races provide a colorful show of spinnakers), the sandbar in the distance (location of scenes in the movie '50 First Dates'), and the Koolau mountains as the backdrop.
You can sit on the front deck and gaze at Coconut Island, reading about its fascinating history--not only was it used for shots of 'Gilligan's Island,' but it once hosted presidents, actors and royalty, and military service members on R and R, and now serves as an important marine research facility. Or, you can watch for visiting yachts or other vessels -- with the filming of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' in the bay, the view from the deck included a pirate ship!
The home is cooled by HILLTOP BREEZES and ceiling fans and is fully furnished with all linens and full kitchen amenities, plus extra cooking items (blender, rice cooker, coffee grinder, electric kettle, crock pot, Foreman grill, spices). We also provide boogie boards, beach towels, coolers, beach umbrella, and beach chairs.
There is 1 bedroom downstairs, plus a tub and shower bathroom; there are 3 bedrooms upstairs, plus a shower-only bathroom.
Also included: wireless internet access, flat screen televisions, a full-size foosball table, books and board games. To help with your choice of activities, we provide brochures, maps and local menus. The indoor dining table accommodates six; there are also 2 counter chairs and 6 outdoor chairs plus table on the lanai.
In 6 minutes you can drive to world-renown KAILUA BEACH, where, in addition to swimming, you can enjoy activities like boogie boarding, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, and kite-boarding. A few minutes beyond Kailua beach is LANIKAI BEACH, also voted as one of the country's best. There are several nearby golf courses, both public and private (including Koolau, one of the country's most challenging and most beautiful).
MILITARY guests will appreciate the short 5 minute drive to the Kaneohe Marine Base and its commissary, exchange, and private beach.
For 'big city' action, you can get to HONOLULU or WAIKIKI in about 25 minutes, or you can access the nearby H-3 onramp to head toward Pearl Harbor, the Aloha Stadium swap meet, or the airport (about 23 minutes away). Kaneohe town (home of Windward Mall) is about 10 minutes away. Continue past Kaneohe and you'll be on a scenic drive to Kualoa Beach Park, or beyond to the north shore and its famous beaches. Or, if you prefer to just relax, you can sit on the lanai with a good book and spend your day enjoying the view.
We look forward to welcoming you to our hale with a basket of Hawaiian coffee and local treats. Don't forget your camera!
Special Note: ***The paved driveway up to the house is steep -- not suitable for trucks. Two car maximum per group due to limited parking. (Front wheel drive is not required, but recommended). The reward is the view!
Another special note ** While we do expect you to enjoy the house, we also expect you to respect the neighbors and to refrain from loud and late partying, especially on the front deck. Mahalo!

We have been frequent renters of vrbo properties in the past, but this was by far our best vrbo vacation experience yet, mostly due to the warm and welcoming environment presented by Bill and Joyce. We stayed there for a family reunion consisting of seven adults, but the house was relaxed and roomy enough to fit all of us very comfortably. Bill and Joyce made us feel like their special guests, with wonderful thoughtful touches provided for us, like a pound of Hawaiian coffee, a large basket of tropical fruit, lovely toiletries, lots of helpful maps, guide books and restaurant menus and reviews, and seasonal decorations that even included a little decorated Christmas tree! They were the consummate hosts, yet we also had total privacy, feeling like we lived on top of the mountain in our own little castle. But by far, the most amazing feature of the property is the jaw-droppingly gorgeous view from just about every room in the house. Please understand that the pictures of the view from the deck that are included in the rental listing do not in any way do justice to the magnificence of that view over the bay. We would go back to that house in a heartbeat. I think we're now spoiled for ever staying in any other rental house.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

Finding a place that will accommodate 7 adults for an extended-family vacation was not an easy task, but luckily I found this gem in Oahu! Bill and Joyce's property provided plenty of privacy for everyone and had great amenities for a cozy family gathering. The view was fantastic, and the house was well stocked with everything necessary for a family vacation (From beach gear to cooking gadgets). The location was great as well! Just a short drive away from many yummy restaurants in Kailua! We even stumbled into the weekly farmer's market on Thursdays in Kailua and picked up some great souvenirs that you can't get at typical tourist trap attractions on the island. We were able to visit several beaches on the island, snorkel, site seeing north shore and Pearl Harbor while mostly driving in the opposite direction of rush hour traffic. The house was everything promised in the description and the hosts are so helpful. From my first contact to receiving the deposit return, Bill and Joyce went over and beyond by sending helpful vacation planning tips/restaurant suggestions that made this trip not stressful at all!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

This was our 3rd trip to Hawaii in 2 years as our son is stationed there. This was the best place we have stayed so far. We took our family this time which included our son, wife, friend and 2 year old son. It was a perfect family place, plenty of space for everyone, the kitchen was awesome in that it was fully furnished with all the items you would need to cook meals and all the basic staple foods (seasonings, oils, extras). The very best thing about the house is the deck that surrounds the entire house. Our grandson just loved running all the way around the house on the deck and sitting watching the boats, planes and helicopters from the marine base doing exercises in the bay. The hosts were so gracious and helpful, awaiting us when we arrived at 10:00p.m. with fresh fruit. The day we were leaving we had to take a few things back to our son's house and they even offered to do that for us, very impressive. The bedrooms are very large with plenty of room for luggage and comfortable beds. We never had to close the windows or worry about our items because it is somewhat secluded and the owners live beside it. The house is also just a short drive from anything you would want to do. I especially liked it not being right on the beach and having the deck surrounding the house, this gave our grandson lots of freedom to run but in a contained area so we did not have to worry about him going somewhere he wasn't supposed to. It was between our son's home and work, making it very convenient for him. I just cannot say enough wonderful things about this place and will definitely stay there when we go back. Since we have been home we have recommended this house to several people that are planning a Hawaii trip. We have also had much communication with the Chandlers since we have been home. They are like friends, so easy to talk to, wanting everything to be perfect for your stay and wanting to help in any way they can. The perfect place for a paradise vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

My family stayed here for a week in May. The location is great and the view every morning and evening make the stay truely a fantastic place to stay while on Oahu. You will need a car while staying here but everything you need is very close. The house has plenty of room for everyone,. We had two kids 11 and 10, my mom, my brother and myself. 3 Bedrooms were very large and the owners actually bought a new bed for the fourth bedroom during our stay. We had plenty of household items in the kitchen, living room had plenty of kid games, lots of travel guides, bath towels, etc. The owners actually left us fresh fruit and were very helpful in guiding us around the island, making suggestions, etc. The location is on the windward side of the island and we left all windows open all the time for fresh air. If I visit the island again I would stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

My family and I went to Oahu and stayed at this house. We had my 71 year old mother, my two kids (9 and 11) and my brother and I. The owners, Bill and Joyce, greeted us upon arrival and couldn't have been nicer. They provided a fruit basket for us that we ate throughout the week and provided beach towels, snorkels, fins, masks, beach chairs, coolers, etc. Everything we would have ever needed. They were helpful with restaurants and accommodating to any of our needs, just nice people. Even when part of our group left for a day and the other half was walking around the neighborhood, the owner graciously picked up our group and showed them where President Obama stayed and other interesting sites in the area. The house was immaculate when we arrived. Everything was clean. All of the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with any utensils we needed and the fridge was clean and had some sodas for us along with maybe 1 or 2 beers. The views over the bay were absolutely gorgeous. I can't say how much we all enjoyed waking up, walking out on the deck and enjoying that fabulous view. It was a great way to start every morning. The location is one that I would highly recommend. It was about 20-30 minutes from any of the attractions that we wanted to see, be it waikiki, honolulu, pearl harbor, hanauma bay, the dole plantation and even the north shore. Maybe it was the time of year, mid may, but we did not experience any traffic. The nearby beaches were pristine and about 10 minutes away by car. They were not crowded like waikiki beach. All in all, this was a great trip for my first time to Oahu and Hawaii and I would 1000% percent recommend this property for the cleanliness, convenience to all attractions, beautiful views and great owners. If I return to this island, I would definitely stay at this propertyRecommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

My old college roommates and I rented this house for a week over the 4th of July for a reunion trip, and I cannot say enough about what an amazing time we had or how perfect this house was for us!!! It's so clean, bright and spacious, and the views are literally impossible to describe until you've seen it - the photos just can't do it justice - (but we took about a million anyway!!!). The house was stocked with pretty much anything we could've needed, including tons of kitchen supplies, and we used the grill almost every night and ate outside on the lanai! The breezes coming through the windows kept the house at a perfectly comfortable temperature the entire time, it was never too hot or too cold. There was plenty of room for 5 of us, and we could've easily fit a couple more comfortably! Bill and Joyce were so nice and accommodating, letting us use their Safeway card, leaving us tons of helpful brochures, coupon books, and lots of great information about what to do and where to go (and how to pronounce Kaneohe...I'm still working on that!) We felt so welcome and at home, they could not have been better hosts or more hospitable!!!! We would LOVE to go back one day!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We had a wonderful stay at Hillside Haven. Bill and Joyce were excellent hosts, calling us to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, leaving a basket of yummy fruit for us, and giving us their Safeway card to help with groceries. The view is spectacular and their home is very comfortable. Our children loved having their own rooms! We were close to everything too. We would stay here again! Thanks Bill & Joyce for a great stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Bill and Joyce were the perfect hosts! From the wonderful greeting with the lovely fruit basket at the top of the hill, to the information they provided us during our Thanksgiving stay for our wedding and vacation; EVERYTHING was superb. The home accomidated 7 of adults perfectly. Our 9 month old had her own port-a-crib they acquired for us in advance. The views listed on this site does not do justice to the magnificent sites seen from the lanai. Father-in-law (LJ) could have stayed there with his binos the entire trip. The views of MCBH Kaneohe to the marina to Gilligan's Island, everything is so close without any use of a lense to photograph!! Bill even let us use his Safeway card until I could get to the commissary for our main food purchases! The home is well equiped with everything we needed. Bill and Joyce were there each times I called for information, but were never seen otherwise. The grill out back and the crock pot inside helped prepare some meals. This is the BEST deal VRBO has listed from our experiences thusfare!!!! Thanks again Bill and Joyce for all your assistance! And we'll stay in touch as the LSU Tigers play in the Cotton bowl on Jan 7th- Geax Tigers!!! Thank you for sharing your home and the welcome basket. It was our first time to Hawaii and your home provided us with an absolutely beautiful view. And, the location provided us with easy access to the whole island. Whether we were traveling to the North Shore for Shaved Ice or Sunset Beach (via the Kamehameha Hwy is a wonderful drive), Sandy Beach or to Pearl Harbor, everything was easily accessible. Being from Florida, we were a little apprehensive about not having air conditioning, especially in June, but with the cross breeze through the house we found ourselves looking for blankets. And, because of the airline baggage fees, we chose to pack light. The washer/dryer was a plus, especially since I washed clothes before we left so the chore of washing vacation items was not waiting upon our return home. Bill and Joyce could not have been more helpful, whether it was the welcome basket of fresh fruit or suggestions on things to do (both before and during our visit). They are wonderful hosts. We look forward to being able to return to the island; we will look to stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
