We offer 4 quaint luxury units; a one bedroom unit attached to the main house and 3 units on the in their own separate building. The 3 ocean view units have astonishing views. They are fully furnished and include a/c, cable TV, kitchen with a range, microwave, refrigerator, and a toaster oven. The unit attached to the main house includes a/c, cable TV, microwave, mini-fridge & basic mugs, glasses and silverware. Each Ocean View unit has a queen size bed that sleeps two adults with an additional full size bed that pulls out from underneath that sleeps two children or one adult comfortably (a tight fit for two adults). Air mattresses are available upon request.
All units have access to the pool with a choice of two outdoor showers one by your room and the other pool side. A private path will lead you to the beach which is just a short 5 minute walk from the property. There are two general stores and a handful of restaurants and bars all within walking distance. And when your stomach is full, you can walk through miles of tide pools during low tide. If you’re up to it you can keep walking to Punta Judas which spans a quarter mile out into the ocean which hosts a protected turtle reserve. Once the tide starts coming in, grab your surf board, head out and enjoy the world renowned surf.
Toward the end of the day grab a chair, kick your feet up and relax in the ocean breeze with the beautiful iguanas and tropical birds on your covered balcony while overlooking the splendor of Esterillos Oeste beach through the tropical trees of paradise.
Directions from San Jose International Airport (Juan Santamaria, SJO)
PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU NEED DIRECTIONS, THESE ONES ARE OUTDATED DUE TO SOME NEW CONSTRUCTION.
San Jose International Airport Departure – Take the first exit to Alejuela (exit to the right; this road double backs) then stay in left lane to San Ramon; DON'T take the second exit to the right that says Alejuela. Now follow the Panamerican Highway (Costa Rica 1) in the direction of San Ramon / Puntarenas
Take exit to Atenas / Punta Leona – Exit right then turn left on Highway 3 (going over the Panamerican Highway) You will follow this road for the next 1 hour or so. This starts your drive over the mountains toward Atenas.
Atenas – In the heart of Atenas you find the only one gas station and a supermarket next to it. This is the start of many curves and one way bridges toward San Mateo.
San Mateo – Before you reach San Mateo, you will see the sign 'Manuel Antonio 111km'
Soon after that sign the road will turn right. Go1 block and turn LEFT. Now you drive between a church (left) and the San Mateo city park (right). You will reach Orotina after 5 km or so.
Orotina – Here you are around halfway between San Jose and Manuel Antonio, not in distance but in time. In Orotina you will find restaurants, fruit shops, bathrooms and a gas station.
End of Orotina, exit to the right – 500 meters past the Orotina traffic light is a turn off to the right.
Follow the sign to Quepos / Manuel Antonio / Jaco for 10 km or so.
Highway Cloverleaf – Follow signs to Quepos / Manuel Antonio / Jaco. Exit right until you pass under the bridge. You are now on the Costanera Highway.
Crocodile Bridge – A long two-lane bridge is called 'Crocodile bridge'. Stop BEFORE the bridge at the Crocodile Bridge restaurant, lock your car, and walk to the center. You're guaranteed to see some huge (15 foot long) crocodiles below you!
Pacific Ocean – After passing the Nativa Resort at the right you reach Steve and Lisa's Restaurant. It's the first place where you can touch the Pacific Ocean. You can eat here but from here it's only 10 minutes to the Plaza Herradura Shopping Mall which has several restaurants.
Plaza Herradura Shopping Mall and Restaurants – After passing Punta Leona at the right you reach the Los Suenos Marriott Hotel exit in Herradura at the right-hand side At the corner you find the Plaza Herradura Shopping Mall with Auto Mercado supermarket and several restaurants.
KEEP STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY, DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THE EXITS INTO JACO
Jaco – After the Los Suenos exit in Herradura, you reach the second and last traffic light on this trip. It's there for the Jaco school crosswalk so unless there are children in school, it'll be green.
End of Jaco – After driving thru the outskirts of Jaco the road follows a wide uphill curve to the right. Here you find a viewing point overlooking Jaco and Jaco Bay. Once you pass this point the road turns to the left and Jaco is gone!
From here it will be twenty minutes to Esterillos.
Playa Hermosa – Great surfing!
Esterillos – Esterillos is broken up into three towns, in order from North to South (traveling from Jaco to Esterillos). Esterillos Oeste, Esterillos Central & Esterillos Este. You will be taking the first entrance into Esterillos Oeste on your right just past the Cabo Caletas project. You will see signs for the Las Olas development. You’ll travel roughly 1 km into town where you will see a restaurant and a small super market (Super Sol) on your right. Take a right just past the super sol. This paved road winds to La Sirena Hotel which will be on your left. From there you will go 100 meters and turn right up a dirt hill which bends to the right as you reach the top. You will see a sign for Apartamentos Iguanas along with two brick pillars. Turn right down a long driveway and you have reached paradise. Enjoy your stay!

My husband and I with 3 kids found this little gem for a great weekend getaway, we live near San Jose, so it takes just under 2 hours to get there. We love to have a kitchen so we don't have to eat bad food in unknown restaurants and the kitchen was well-equiped and just big enough for our family. The little apartment was clean and comfortable with amazing views. The pool was great for the kids, very clean too. Marga is a magnificent host, very attentive and kind. The beach is a bit far, but if you have a car you can visit other beaches too that are very close by. We prefer Esterillos Este, much cleaner, more expansive and less populated. Really I can't say anything bad about this vacation rental, I would go back for sure.

My husband and I spent about a week at this property for a much needed vacation that ended up costing us about the same as it would have to go to the beach in Florida - but this was so much better! The views are spectacular and the beach is a short walk down the hill and absolutely gorgeous - we saw monkeys playing in the trees at the beach! The apartment was very clean and comfortable - exactly what we were looking for. Also the pool was nice and had amazing views! Marga was really nice - always offering suggestions - including an absolutely fabulous restaurant nearby. We aren't the type that like to go out all the time so we really enjoyed the peaceful quiet little village which was not a far drive to supermarkets and the bustling town of Jaco. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay for a relaxing vacation.

We wanted to stay in Esterillos knowing that Hermosa & Jaco were crazy due to the International surf show. Esterillos was a perfect choice! It truly is one of Costa Rica's best Beaches. We stayed here for our Family Vacation with our 2 Teenage Sons (15 & 17) We rented the 1 bedroom apt upstairs & it was perfect! Our hosts were gracious & hospitable. They welcomed us with a warm greeting after driving all night from Arenal. The Apt was perfect for our family. it was clean & comfy. And Having the kitchen was a nice bonus too! The beach was a 5 min beautiful nature trail walk. We frequented the beach front hotel for evening sunset drinks. We loved staying here & We will definitely return!
Owner response:I always appreciate it when someone takes the time to write a review. The thing is, taking great care of our guests comes naturally. We want everyone that stays with us to be 100% satisfied and leave Apartamentos Iguanas feeling wonderful. After all isn't that what vacations are all about! Thank you.... to all of our guests :)

I stayed here at this property in 2009. I absolutely loved it. I wanted a vacation away from tourists, where it would be peaceful, scenic, rustic and beautiful. I found all that and more at this wonderful hideout. The owners are absolutely amazing and helped to make our experience very, very comfortable. I am dying to return....alone....and plan to do so in the very near future.

The owners of Apartamentos Iguanas were so kind! They really care about ever person who visits them. My husband and I visited for a week on our Honeymoon, and I could not have chosen a better place to spend such a special time in our lives. The views are beautiful, the beach is close, and the town is so friendly. This place is more than worth the price!!! I would recommend it for everyone, wether you want a relaxing get away or an adventure.

My husband and I stayed here for one glorious month last Jan 2010.we fell in love with this place. it is everything exactly like it shows.we sat for hours everyday on our deck looking at the ocean.Marga and Russ are the most wonderful hosts.always a smile and a chat.they even brought us some fish they caught.the yard is a piece of heaven and they work so hard to make it just beautiful. The condo was impecably clean, and the maid came every week to clean and change beds.there are way more chairs by the pool than the pic shows as marga bought some more.to see the ocean from our deck and pool was awsome. And it was only 5 min walk to beach (we timed it one day).about 7 mins to little town where we got our groc.everything we needed was within walking.we didnt have a car.Marga was great she took us to Jaco 3 times for a little shopping and browsing.we miss our little cabina so much and hope to return some day.costa rica is our favorite place in the world.we saw macaws almost everyday.went on a boat tour and had monkeys come right on the boat with us.saw the blue morpho butterfly.and our friends the iguanas that hung out in the trees. Thanks Krista for all your emails and info you provided for us before we came. You were so helpful and kind.sorry it took so long to write my review but had a lot of family stuff going on when we got home.
