Villa 14 is one of our Amangani homes – a stunning, spacious, four-bedroom house on the grounds of the celebrated Amangani Hotel, with access to all the hotel has to offer and privileged use of all hotel amenities. Room service, spa, health center, concierge, ski lounge – a resident of Villa 14 may use any of these at any time, as well as the elongated, outdoor heated pool and hot tub.
Villa 14 seems very much a part of its surroundings: big and robust, with a mythical, almost Aztec air to it. Massive stone pillars support a glowing redwood and glass upper story, and the roof’s angle echoes the high mountains beyond. Inside the big front doors is an open, spare, and superbly comfortable home. The interiors are paneled in rich redwood from floor to ceiling; wide eight-foot windows let the Grand Tetons and the big sky in. A huge cut stone fireplace with firewood alcove and smooth, raised black slate hearth faces a cluster of deep, sand-colored suede armchairs. Thick peeled pine columns support the room and reiterate the wilderness outside.
The house is laid out so that the living room, dining room and kitchen all share one sweeping space, defined by a subtly curving wall of windows that looks out to the covered stone terrace, the meadows, the rolling foothills and the mountains. The kitchen is gorgeous, with black soapstone countertops, professional-quality appliances and a breakfast bar. The outdoor dining area on the terrace has a barbeque and the bright Wyoming moon as chandelier.
The four simple, airy bedrooms have great walls of glass; beyond the windows is wilderness. Each bedroom has a deeply comfortable king bed, a fireplace and sitting area, a private wood, glass and stone bathroom and a terrace. The master bedroom is quite large, with doors that open to the terrace and the mountains, as well as a big closet and private changing area. The master bath has double sinks, a glass-walled double shower and a deep soaking tub. Each bedroom also has a flat screen TV, DVD, stereo system and iPod connection cable.
Heated stone flooring and central air runs throughout the house. Beyond the living area is a “zen yard,” a calm and welcoming space with a hot tub that can seat four. Everything at Villa 14, as at The Amangani Hotel, feels fundamental and unfussy; everything is the very best, presented simply. Outside, the pure, sweet Wyoming air blesses all. The Amangani Hotel and its private homes are just fifteen minutes from Jackson and twenty minutes from the ski slopes, central to all that is adventurous and fine in this magnificent state. |
