It is actually a lot bigger than the photo's make it look, and is set up for family vacations. On hand we found games and bocci ball sets, and actually Steve and I played Scabble on our wedding night before going to bed. I'd recommend this place to my friends and visiting relatives any time, and maybe might stay there again if the opportunity arises, even if we already live in the area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at this wonderful place in La Selva Beach for a family reunion. We found the house to be just as it looks in the pictures, and the description of the house and location are accurate. This is an older and charming house, a short walk away from the beach in a quiet and woodsy area with plenty of parking space and a large back yard. The house was clean and cozy, and the owner was very responsive and helpful- which was great, as this was our first time renting through VRBO. The rental process was extremely easy, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The town of La Selva Beach is a short drive away from all the local attractions, and it was a great little quiet place to come back to after the hustle and bustle of the touristy places. We will most definitely consider renting this house again in the future.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We really enjoy staying at this house. LaSelva is away from the crowds of Santa Cruz. The house is a short, beautiful walk to a great beach. The house feels like home with it's large patio deck and BBQ.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We've rented this home about 4 times so far and it has always been a lot of fun! It is extremely comfortable and offers a wonderful place to relax! Our four kids are always asking to come back! There are a ton of beach towels (yeah! one less thing to pack), plus boogie boards and skim boards and sand toys. It's very quiet and offers a great back yard to BBQ and play. The kitchen is well stocked with everything necessary for a good time. LSB is absolutely a beautiful town to walk through....the perfect quiet "get-a-way"! The owners are very friendly, helpful and attentive to the needs of their guests. It's at least a "once a year" tradition now, though the kids would like it to be more (and we would too!) Thank you Sue! It's always a pleasure.:)Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The location of this home is fantastic. It is a 5-minute walk to the private access gate for the beach. You can also drive and park in a private parking lot right on the beach if you have lots of toys or little people to haul for your day on the sand. There is a wonderful community park/playground about 2 minutes down the street. The neighborhood is quiet and neighbors are friendly. The fenced backyard makes it a nice retreat for families with children, and the interior of the home is quite spacious. We were a little surprised at the overall "tired" look and feel of the property. Furniture is worn, carpet is dingy, kitchen is stocked with mis-matched dishes, and bed linens are past their prime. There are really only two "real" beds in the home. The other "beds" are homemade platforms with fouton-type mattresses....fine for kids, but probably not great for adults. Renters should be aware that there is no dishwasher. Not a deal-breaker for us, but could be a concern for people that don't want to wash dishes on their vacation! Also, the gas stove in the kitchen is not kid-safe. It took our 15-month old about 60 seconds to find the kitchen and turn on all the burners when we first arrived. A baby gate would be very helpful to keep kids out of the kitchen. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. We appreciated the fact that the rental rate was more affordable than other places and the home/neighborhood offers a lot for families with young kids. If we returned to the area again, we would consider this property. If you need a fancy place, spend the extra money and find another rental, because this ain't it.Recommended for: Families with young children
Owner response: We are glad that you and your family enjoyed the area, but are very sorry that you found the accommodations less than satisfactory. We try to be very honest that ours is not a fancy place, but rather a casual, older family beach home. Although we are gradually updating items in the house, we are taking it step by step so as to keep our rates affordable. In the meantime, we have added more pictures to the website and hope that they will give guests a clear sense of the house. While most of our guests find the house quite comfortable, we realize some families may prefer something more modern.

My daughter, two grandsons ages 5 and 16 months and myself loved our stay. The location of the property was perfect for us. We walked from the house to the children's park at the local community center for some play time. The private beach access for property owners was great and the beach is amazing, beautiful and not as crowded as other public beaches, one afternoon it was just the four of us. The boys loved playing in the sand, my oldest grandson was able to collect a bucket of sea shells to take home. The Santa Cruz Boardwalk was just a 15 min drive for a fun morning and of course the Monterey Aquarium was only 30 minutes away, the boys loved it and the jellyfish exhibit was great! The house was perfect for us, the pictures and listing of the amenities accurately depict the home's features, it had everything we needed, the boys loved playing on the deck and lawn in the back yard and exploring in the front yard. The house sits back from the road which gives a lot of additional space and privacy we were so surprised at how quiet and peaceful it was there with no road noise. Just a short drive away in the town of Aptos is a great market for groceries located in a small shopping center is the Deluxe Market it is like a smaller version of Whole Foods we were able to get everything we needed their meat market is great no need to go to Safeway. Just one stop sign away from the house is the Seaside resort with a pizza restaurant, we ordered pizza and a salad and they delivered to us with no delivery charge and the food was great a good recommendation. The property manager Sue was awesome, she sent extra photos that are not on the site and answered every question we had. We loved our time there it was just too short! As my 5 year old grandson said, "Grammy I love my vacation at LaSelva Beach, I'm so happy now"! We were all sad to leave and will go back for another visit because it is so kid and family friendly with so much more to see and do in the area that we could not fit in on this trip.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My family and I had a wonderful time during our stay at the La Selva Beach House. The house was very welcoming and comfortable. It's clean and well stacked and we had everything we needed. The private beach is just nearby and the kids had a wonderful time playing at the beach. This is the second time that we've used the property, and both times it has been a great relaxing time away from home. We only live 45 minutes away, so it's a great retreat for us. The beach is just a few minute walk away, as well as great food and shopping a quick drive up or down Hwy 1. The house is clean, and simple. Really all you're looking for in a getaway house. It has all the basics that you need. The owners has always been great to work with, she's kind, responsive and very helpful. I'm sure we'll stay here again.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family with two small children (ages 4 and 2) recently stayed here for a week. The description and pictures accurately reflected the house, its amenities and location. The house was very clean and well stocked. The owners were very responsive before and after our stay. It was perfect: off the beaten path (think Santa Cruz, Capitola, Monterey, Carmel, etc.) yet just a short drive to the more touristy places. The house is spacious and clean yet not pretentious. We relaxed while reading books, playing games, walking around the neighborhood, playing at the park just a few houses down, walking on the beach -- especially during sunset. There were sand toys for the kids. Though our kids were too young and the weather too cold to use them, there were boogie boards and skim boards. With very short drives, we had lunch in Moss Landing at Phil's, checked out the cement ship at Sea Cliff State Beach, had lunch on the Santa Cruz Wharf, road the rails at Roaring Camp Railroad, toured the Seymour Marine Discovery Center (a fraction of the cost of the Monterey Bay Aquarium!) and loved coming "home" to relax in the family friendly La Selva house. Being able to go grocery shopping and cook our own meals made this trip financially possible. I can't imagine staying at a hotel again. The house is very well stocked and has a wonderfully warm and comforting family vibe. We would recommend this house to our friends and family, and will definitely be returning -- hopefully soon!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My girlfriend and I brought our 4 kids and enjoyed this house for a 5-day vacation. The house has access to a private beach (5 min walk away), on a quiet winding road within walking distance to La Selva Beach's "downtown." This house has everything you need (other than perishables) to enjoy a quiet beach vacation. No wi-fi was a bonus since the kids remained engaged with us instead of their devices, and work could not find us on our vacation (LSB is surrounded by restaurants, stores, etc. all with free wi-fi if you are desperate to get connected during your stay). I was afraid the last person showering would have cold water, but the heat stayed hot and we were all happy. We took advantage of their boogie boards (we brought our own too), and brought our own as well. The house has a wonderful array of books to read and games to play. We enjoyed these immensely, especially when we were exhausted from playing in the water and on the beach. There are just enough beach towels & shower towels for their max number of guests, so if you think you might need more you should bring them. Kitchen is well stocked with all sorts of pots, pans, dishes, etc. Kitchen has no dishwasher or garbage disposal but even with 2 adults and 4 kids we had no problem with this. The listing description is accurate, photos are not edited or embellished, property is clean and well-maintained, owner is very friendly and accommodating. We definitely recommend this property and would visit again. Laid-back, unpretentious coastal California community, with private beach, unspoiled from commercialization. The beach was amazing- vast and uncrowded. If you want to vacation and stay away from other tourists but far-enough-away from the attractions, this is a great place to be. Area points of interest: Capitola 15min north, Santa Cruz 20min north, Monterey 30min south, Carmel 35min south, 50min drive to Big Basin State Park to see big redwoods. At the house: Dining out requires driving somewhere as the community does not have a restaurant. Quality of food is leaps-and-bounds better near Monterey than Santa Cruz. We stocked up on breakfast and lunch groceries at Safeway and went out for dinner. Home has large back yard which makes a very challenging Bocce pitch. The rental rate is appropriate for the quality of furnishings within the home. Furnishings are as you would expect for a family vacation home- hand-me-downs from the primary residence. If the home was redecorated and had modern bedding and linens, the rental rate would be much higher. I recommend packing beach towels, wash cloths, and slippers. The beach towel supply was marginally sufficient for two adults and two small children. Only one bath washcloth was located. Slippers because it's a carpeted beach rental house. I would encourage the cleaners to proactively discard perishable refrigerated items between guest visits. Again, excellent location, large home, awesome beach, great value. My family very much enjoyed our getaway.
