Reviews left by previous renters:
"We stayed at the Casa da Confraria in September 2004 for my wife's 40th birthday. We couldn't have been happier with the house and Sintra itself.
The house is at the top of a hill, and at night, you can walk out the front door and see all the way to the sea. At the bottom of the hill, there is a natural spring where the locals fill their water bottles, and we did as well. There were plenty of restaurants, both down the hill to the main part of town and over in Sao Pedro, which is walkable from the house. Sao Pedro also has a market every second and fourth Sunday with a wide variety of foods and products for sale, including an amazing bread stuffed with chouriço made in clay ovens permanently installed in the square there. Getting it hot out of the oven made it even more delicious.
There is also a local bus that stops at the bottom of the hill and goes into another part of Sintra where there is a grocery store.
Sintra itself is wonderfully beautiful, with two royal palaces and amazing courtiers' houses. But the surroundings were elegant and the site manager extremely helpful. The owner even gave us the number of a taxi driver who picked us up at the airport in Lisbon and took us to the house. We look forward to returning to Casa da Confraria, having had such a lovely time there."

"I have had the pleasure of staying at Casa Da Confraria (in both Casa Grande and Casa Piquena) on several occasions over the last 5 years. I always ensure I take enough time to have a small holiday with family and friends because it is so idyllic and magical.
Casa Da Confraria could not be better located. The house is on a convenient, yet quiet street that is peaceful and adds to the historical splendor of the area. Not only is it an easy and beautiful walk to Sintra, and many of the regional palaces, it is a simple drive to see other national treasures of Portugal and is conveniently located for drives to Lisbon, the Algarve or up north towards Porto. Market shopping is also very convenient for food or for gifts that are unique to the country.
Both houses are beautifully appointed and easy to use with a full complement of modern appliances. The proprietor has a house manager who is very familiar with the area and quite responsive to your every need. He also suggests a driver who is also responsive and interested in ensuring you see the best of what the area has to offer. The combination of the setting and supporting manager and driver ensure that anybody staying will have a fabulous time."

Casa Da Confraria- a Majestic Home in the Hills
Year Purchased: 1996
Why the Owner Chose Sintra
My wife and I fell in love with Sintra within minutes of arriving. We were just sold by the colorful markets, the lush walking trails, and the fascinating history of the old Portuguese empire. It's easy to see why the Portuguese kings chose to build their palaces in Sintra.
Owner's Map of Sintra
I love Portugal. My wife and I bought the houses in 1996 and enjoy returning every year for the culture, the fantastic food and the weather.

Sometime ago we had the pleasure of staying at Casa da Confraria. The view over Sintra is lovely...and the walk to the village centre is a pleasant walk down the hill. It is easy to find when one knows where it is..but a puzzle for taxi drivers from Lisbon. However, your recommended driver was great and met flights in Lisbon ...There is parking close by...but a car is not absolutely necessary...the train is more convenient for trips to Lisbon.. The house is delightfully renovated and decorated in the period of its origin...Although the rooms are typically small...they are very comfortable and there are enough rooms on three floors to accomodate a family with ease...It is well-equipped with all necessary china, cutlery, utensils etc... The garden is especially inviting...on two levels with appropriate seating etc...We had some pleasant picnic lunches there... We were fortunate to have both houses (attached and sharing the same garden)..so we had rooms that we didn't even use when all the family arrived...but we needed all the bedrooms. We very much enjoyed our stay in Sintra and Casa da Confraria...and highly recommend it for anyone wishing a delightful stay in Portugal.

Just to let you know that we think often of our stay in your fascinating home, the "Casa Da Confraria" in Sintra. The house was ideally situated in the town, walking distance to so many wonderful sites and attractions. And, having a lovely garden to relax in after a busy day of hiking or sightseeing was definitely an added bonus. We do hope to come back one day --this time with our family, for another extended stay.

Our families rented both villas in Sintra know as the Casas de Confraria in the month of June for four weeks. We very much enjoyed our stay and found the villa to be well appointed and conveniently located for travel to Sintra, trains to Lisbon, along with the beaches. The villas were exceptionally well decorated and very comfortable. We would recommend this villa to our family and friends.

Yes, we had a very nice stay in your villa in Sintra some years ago. We were 12 persons who lived in the two houses with good space. The house was very well equipped and we appreciated especially the garden with the cave in the rock. Sintra is a wonderful town and the house is very well situated. Your manager did everything to do our living comfortable. It is to be recommended.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Casa Da Confraria in Sentra. The house is beautifully decorated, everything you would need for a short term house rental is there for your use. The location is very private yet close enough to the historical district for walking. I would strongly consider Casa Da Confraria in my plans if we ever get back to Portugal.

Susan & I enjoyed your lovely hillside home in Sintra. The views from the front balcony were wonderful. We could see the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. The house was charming and was everything we expected. We would definitely stay at your home again if we return to Portugal.
