If you want a beautiful place to relax and explore nature, you have found your next vacation rental. We stayed in the King Suite (1L) and it was immaculate! Screened in porch with table and chairs, along with casual outdoor furniture to view the beautiful water. The kitchen/living area has everything you need. The bed was so comfortable, my husband who NEVER sleeps through the entire night, slept all night long. The ceiling fans kept the room cool with a sea breeze while you listened to the waves lap onto the beach. The place is about 15 miles from town, with no restaurants needed. Bring frozen food with you and you can cook on the outdoor grill, oven, microwave, stove, or even have a fire on the beach with Chad's covered fire pit. Daytime explore the bay when the tide goes out to find conch, starfish, bonefish from the kayak, southern sea rays, and of course Sand Dollars. I found 70 one day. Take the Ocean Kayaks (2) singles or the boat to explore even further. We found a small reef recovering well from a hurricane a couple of years ago. Nice sea fans, tropical fish, and one nasty guy called a Lionfish (DO NOT TOUCH). Our host was Chad, who made every wish come true. He has two well behaved dogs that love to swim. We enjoyed Shasha and Shieba very much, as we missed our own dog Maggie. There is laundry facilities that are just as nice as the ones you have at home. The kitchen was well equipped and there is even the staples such as salt pepper, sugar substitute, vinegar, etc. that guests have left for others. We were even greeted with a flower on our table. Only one disappointment, which Chad cannot control, was the abandoned areas on the beach about a 1/2 mile from SandDollar Cove cottages, had debris from humans, which would have to be cleaned up by community involvement. Some tips:If you want to rent a car, you can do so, although we could have actually done without it. We only used it 5 times during the entire week, Once to get there, get back, drove to the village of Cherokee, to the ferry, and then back to the airport. Bring bug repelant, because you will need it when the winds die down. The listing was totally accurate, and the photos do not do justice to the actually view. The place was immaculate as I said, and Chad was more than helpful with everything. We started as strangers and ended as friends. I would recommend this to friends and relatives alike. Wi-Fi available to stay in touch and send photos to family.

Chad was very very helpful -- even fixing a flat tire on the car we rented. He was always around for advice on anything we wanted. Gave us information on Pete's Pub in Little Harbor for example.

The month at Sand Dollar Cove is in the top three of our most relaxing and wonderful vacations. The cottage is well-equipped with cooking utensils,linens, towels, washer and dryer, and the extra amenities of the sea kayaks, a motor boat, grill, etc were as promised. The access to a quality WIFI connection, Skype, and Cable TV provided us with the connectivity we needed, again without any glitches. Chad is a superb host and graciously guided us to the best wines (A and K), grocery shopping (Maxwells and Abaco Grocery), fresh seafood, and day trips in the area (Man-O-War, Hopetown, Treasure Key). I'm a vegetarian and was able to find fresh fruits, vegetables, and Morningstar Farms products without a problem throughout the month. The sweet potatoes at the Abaco Grocery were awesome! I was able to walk 2-3 miles on the beach every day and rarely encountered another person while finding shells, seeing dolphins, and observing many species of birds, including the endangered Bahama Parrots.Be sure to bring your camera and water shoes to traverse the coral rocks when you cross the "creek" that leads to the southern beach (flip flops don't work!). This is a perfect beach for a family as the water is only waist deep at high tide with gentle waves and children could play safely. At low tide in places, we could walk out over a half mile which gave us great views of the neighboring keys. We had tasty lunches at Jamies (mac and cheese is fantastic!), Pete's Pub at Little Harbor, the Jib Room, and Junovias. Chad's recommendation to acquire a car from Rental Wheels worked out well although we did not feel comfortable driving at night (our age and not used to driving on the left). Other guests that we met during the month did not share that concern and did drive at night. If you are searching for a quiet location to relax, read, to walk on what Chad calls an un-peopled beach, and to return home rested and energized by the beauty of Casurina Point's sunrises and sunsets, we strongly recommend Sand Dollar Cottages.

We stayed at the Sanddollar Cove Cottages for 8 nights during the Christmas holiday. It was a quiet and secluded spot that allowed us to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Bahamas. Chad was a wonderful host. He provided boats, kayaks, fishing gear, local knowledge, and even a bottle of champagne for our honeymoon. There is excellent bonefishing within walking distance to the cottage, a quiet private beach, and even during Christmas there were very few people. The cottages are very nice, clean, roomy, and provide everything that you need for a week or more away from home. This is a great, quiet alternative to the resort style Bahamas vacation. I highly recommend it!

This is a great spot in a great location that I will certainly be returning to again. The beach is quiet and gorgeous, the proprietor is friendly and welcoming, and I was extremely comfortable. My unit was clean, pleasant, and perfect for my needs. I cooked there on two occasions and had more than enough space.

My boyfriend and I needed a quiet vacation and from the reviews on VRBO, we chose Sanddollar Cove Cottages. We were not disappointed. From the beginning Chad has provided excellent services- from picking up groceries for us before we arrived, to showing us the best spots in the area, to telling us all about the flora and fauna of Casuarina Point. We stayed in the Queen bed apartment, which was really clean, quite spacious and very comfortable. We spent a lot of time reading, relaxing and napping, which was exactly what we needed. We also kayaked almost every day, and we had a motor boat we could take out when we wanted. The covered porch is a wonderful place to relax when you've had enough of the strong Bahamian sun, or want to stay clear of the mosquitoes at sunset. What made this trip really special was that my boyfriend and I got engaged on this trip! Apparently, Chad provided some really great suggestions and tips for my (now) fiance on where to go, and this was invaluable. He even threw a dinner party for us, and our really great neighbors who were staying in the flat next to us. The only down side to the whole trip, was that I was completely bitten by every insect in that area, but this could have happened to me anywhere. If you're like me, then just bring a lot of insect repellent. We highly recommend this place to anyone who would like a relaxing vacation in a really beautiful place.

My boyfriend and I just returned from a glorious week at Sand Dollar Cove. What a great time we had. The price is exceptional and the amenities are more than expected. Great location - perfect host - super well equipped - spotless. I have been to many of the Family Islands and this apartment is by far the best place I have stayed. The only thing I missed from home was my Keurig coffeemaker :-) Chad was the perfect host. He is truly interested that you have a great experience. Don't miss out.

My husband and I stayed at Sand Dollar Cove Cottages for a month (Feb 8 - Mar 8, 2011). We have been travelling to the Bahamas for 6 years but this was our first visit to Abaco. We were not disappointed, Abaco offered everything we had hoped for and more. Our unit was exceptional - well equipped, clean and the best value of anywhere we have ever stayed in the Bahamas. Chad was super helpful prior to our arrival with suggestions of car rental agencies, places to shop (even gluten free!) and fishing charters. His hospitality continued upon our arrival and included a welcome evening featuring his famous conch salad. Having the owner next door is a huge plus as Chad ensured our every wish was taken care of and was able to offer up many tips and suggestions of things to do and see while in Abaco.Shopping on island was a breeze by comparison to some other Out Islands and Maxwell's in Marsh Harbour is better stocked than our big Loblaws Superstore back home in Canada. There is also a reliable pharmacy in town as well. Casuarina Point Beach is one of the lovliest we've seen in all of the Bahamas and a safe haven for all ages and swimming abilities. It offers countless hours of walking, beachcombing for shells, or doing the "Sand Dollar Shuffle" with your toes along the sand bar out front at low tide and successfully finding many! There are also two kayaks and a 14 foot boat and motor to tour around Cherokee Sound in or to venture out fishing. We like to bonefish and found lots of them right in the flats just off shore. There are 3 units that can be rented separately or together for larger groups. They are very soundproof as we seldom heard a peep from our neighbours. The units are well equipped with practically every amenity anyone would ever need from hairdryer, beach towels, CD/DVD player, washer & dryer (including detergent) to a cooler and ice pack for one's travels around island. The linens and towels were all good quality as was everything in the very well stocked kitchen. Cable TV permitted us the luxury of watching our home NHL team play hockey while we sipped on our rum punches in 75 degrees - sweet!!! Within hours we felt right at home at Sand Dollar Cove. It is a safe and peaceful spot to relax and unwind. We came as "guests" and left as "friends". Thank you again Chad for your kind and sincere hospitality and for permitting us to share your small "Piece of Heaven"- We hope to return next year for 6 weeks! Kim & Paul (ON Canada)

Sanddollar Cottages sits on a BEAUTIFUL beach. I can not stress enough how beautiful this place is. The water is so clear that we could see the bottom with the moonlight. Sometimes we fished until dark just to enjoy the view and the breeze. We took walks on the beach at night without a worry on our minds because the place is so quiet and private. My girls enjoyed finding sand dollars and sea biscuits. The accommodations were just superb. New, comfortable, clean, organized, well kept to the minimal detail. Mr. Effinger really takes pride of his rental property so that they have a home flavor to it. He will greet you personally upon arrival and he is an endless source of help and information. We found a new friend in him. The boat was fun and reliable, we had lots of fun in it. We rented both units (we were two families of 4 each) and since the units have a dividing door that locks from either side, we enjoyed both units equally. I truly can not wait to go back.

Amazing Abaco and Casuarina Point

My husband and I had the joy of staying at Sanddollar Cove Cottages for our 10th Anniversary. It was a wonderful escape! The cabin was stocked with everything we needed and the screened in porch was a relaxing spot to see the view of the cove. The private beach was beautiful and peaceful. It is where you would find us reading a book or using the kayak that was available. Chad is a wonderful host and so thoughtful! He had a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon our arrival to honor our anniversary, made us his "famous" conch salad, went out of his way to get us crabs for dinner one night (and cooked them for us) and is a fountain of information about the island of Abaco. And what he doesn't know he will find out!! We would love to come back again (for a longer period of time) and bring our friends with us!!!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Sand Dollar Cove Cottages for 8 nights....and we plan on returning again! This was our 4th trip to the Bahamas but our first time to Abaco. The use of the boat was a huge plus! We went bonefishing during the day and explored the beach in the evenings. The accommodations were top notch, very clean and had everything we needed for a most pleasant stay. Chad was a wonderful host and was always around to help out...he even charged the battery in our rental car! We enjoyed his homemade biscotti and Conch Salad. May 1 - 15th 2010...Won't be forgotten!

We stayed at Sanddollar Cove Cottages from May 1 - 15th 2010 and we absolutely loved it. The accomodations were excellent, they felt roomy and had all amenities needed. The kitchen space was better than what many people have in their condo's and fully equiped. We spent much of our time exploring the vast flats of Cherokee Sound, which just so happens to be about 100 feet from the cottages. With use of the boat we were able to see many different fish, turtles, rays and even a few small (2') sharks. We were also able to catch many bonefish on the fly right out front of the cottage plus we gathered a number of conch for some meals plus other shellfish. Essentially we became Bahamians for two weeks. This was our second trip in two years to Casaurina Point and it won't be our last. We would highly recommend Sanddollar Cove to anyone who wants to sit back, relax and enjoy life in the slow lane.

A small piece of Paradise

We had the pleasure of spending a week at Sand Dollar Cove Cottages. We spent a week chasing the bonefish around the white sand flats of Casuarina Point. It was great fun, beautiful views and lots of fish to been seen. Catching them is a different story. My wife and I are new to bonefishing so a stumble on your cast will send the school scurrying. Chad was our main contact and he is a great host with lots of local knowledge. We had access to two kayaks and a 16 foot boat/motor which allowed us to fish the entire area. Chad is well kept with supplies. Hence, I broke my fly rod at the tip and he had one I could borrow. One night while we were cooking, the barbecue gas ran out. He had a spare tank and the grill hot in minutes. A great experience all around! Thanks Chard & Sharron ~ we hope to see you again soon!

Rob and I stayed at SandDollar Cove Cottages for 9 nights at the beginning of February. Casuarina Point is a place in Paradise. The beach is beautiful with very interesting tide action allowing the sand bars to come and go at different times in the day....so planning your water activities was an interesting adventure. I loved the kayaks and the ability to explore the waters edge and the islands beyond. The cottage was Great....great space for a couple, great ammenities, and the screened-in porch kept the ocean and beach in view at all times. Chad and Sharron were great hosts. Chad, thanks for all your help, info and fine cooking, especially the Conch Salad! I highly recommend this as a vacation for couples and little children as the beach and water is ideal. Abaco Island is easy to get to and there are so many places to explore once you are there. For me, a nice change from the all inclusive resorts and so nice to have your own space and the beach right out your door. My hubby and I had the most relaxing wonderful vacation one could expect. The accomodations were just as described but much better and so clean. We had such beautiful weather during our stay it was sad to depart back home to the snow. Chad and Sharon (the hosts) are amazing people. They made sure that we were looked after and anything that we needed, he was there to help. This vacation far exceeded our expectations and that's because of Chad, Sharon and Sheeba, thank you again for everything and making this trip one of our best!!!

We've stayed at all the usual places on Abaco, but none come close to the wonderful stay we had at Sanddollar Cove. The beach is fantastic, and right at your doorstep. Chad and Sharron are terrific hosts. The cottages are new, fresh, clean and stocked with everything you need. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

I know it sounds cliche, but words really can't describe the wonder of Chad and Sharon's little slice of paradise. My wife and I needed some rest and relaxation away from everything. This is exactly what we got at the Sanddollar Cove cottages. Unfortunatley, we did not get to meet Sharon but Chad was an absolute gem. He treated us like royalty. The accomodations are second to none missing no ammenity, the location is right out of a Bahamian postcard, privacy galore. Truly a must see. Thanks Chad and Sharon for sharing your dream with us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sand Dollar Cove Cottages! The cottages themselves are affordable and very comfortable and clean; we truly felt like we got some rest despite all the fishing we were doing! Chad and Sharron were extremely accommodating and helpful – if we needed anything, we just asked and there it was! We truly enjoyed our stay at the Cottages and definitely recommend staying with Chad and Sharron (and Sheba, too!)! We are looking forward to our next visit to Abaco and to be able, again, to stay with them.

One of the most relaxing vacations I have EVER taken. Beautiful beach, sparkling water, and the greatest sunrises & sunsets you could ever imagine. Chad and Sharron are two of the nicest, friendliest people I have run in to, and I can't forget the little pup Sheeba...what a joy to be around. Not only great hosts, but very knowledgeable about the island, the people, and fun places to go. Again I have to say that I have never seen such a beautiful beach. I must admit that I took a great part of it home with me...I am looking to get into the seashell business. What a great place! Can't wait to come back to paradise!

as one of the very first guests at the cottages i would say we were working out a few bugs in the system but had a great time in doing so.I had only known chad and sharon for a couple of weeks while staying there and they took it upon themselves to throw me a birthday party wich was a blast. so bottom line good time great people outsanding place to be.

This place has everything,great views,great location,great house,everything you need for a home away from home.It also has In Chad and Sharron two of the nicest,kindest hosts you could ever wish to meet.They will help you with anything,give you advice on what / where / who to see on the Island - the house is great ,combine this with Chad and Sharron ,and we had one of, if not THE best holiday we have ever had.Ive been back in London 3 days as I type this ,and im still suffering from Sandollar Cove Cottage withdrawal symptoms.Its location is the perfect base for travelling around the rest of the island,20 mins from "the city" and ferries to Cays etc,You can do as much or as little as you feel,plenty of days tho ,we spent just chilling out around or near the cottages,exploring,resting and getting away from "it all" - the colour of the sea,the sand bar,the sunsets,the fact that if you saw one other person on the beach per day,that was classed as a crowd ! - its just perfect.I could write a thousand more words ,it just wouldnt come close to describing how great the total package of Sandollar Cove Cottages and Chad / Sharon are.Am jealous of anybody else staying there before we go back,and trust me ,we will be back .

This place has everything,great views,great location,great house,everything you need for a home away from home.It also has In Chad and Sharron two of the nicest,kindest hosts you could ever wish to meet.They will help you with anything,give you advice on what / where / who to see on the Island - the house is great ,combine this with Chad and Sharron ,and we had one of, if not THE best holiday we have ever had.Ive been back in London 3 days as I type this ,and im still suffering from Sandollar Cove Cottage withdrawal symptoms.Its location is the perfect base for travelling around the rest of the island,20 mins from "the city" and ferries to Cays etc,You can do as much or as little as you feel,plenty of days tho ,we spent just chilling out around or near the cottages,exploring,resting and getting away from "it all" - the colour of the sea,the sand bar,the sunsets,the fact that if you saw one other person on the beach per day,that was classed as a crowd ! - its just perfect.I could write a thousand more words ,it just wouldnt come close to describing how great the total package of Sandollar Cove Cottages and Chad / Sharon are.Am jealous of anybody else staying there before we go back,and trust me ,we will be back .

Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Six of us just returned in early June from a long weekend in the Abaco's and had the pleasure of staying at Sand Dollar Cove Cottages and meeting Chad & Sharron, wonderful host. The cottages are brand new, immaculately clean, tropically furnished with complete kitchens and spectacular open water views. Tranquil, relaxing, beautiful, are some of the adjectives that come to mind. Town is not far, so you can go in for shopping, dinning, boating, or stocking up on supplies. We'll be back. Barbie

Wow! We recently had the pleasure of staying at Sand Dollar Cove Cottages while vacationing with 2 other couples. What a perfect setting -- right on the beach with access to snorkeling, bone fishing, shelling and a multitude of activities. We couldn't have asked for more beautiful accommodations and the price was so affordable! The cottages were completely furnished with everything from big screen TV's with DVD players, full kitchens, bedrooms & baths but nothing could compare to that ocean view!! Our host & hostess, Chad & Sharron, were so accommodating (and a lot of fun too!) We can't wait to come back to Abaco . . . and there's no place we'd rather stay than Sand Dollar Cove Cottages!

We have been planning our wedding for about 8 months before we found SandDollar Cove Cottages. Since a little girl I have always dreamed about getting married on the beach / tropical paradise. I never would have thought it possible, but through SandDollar Cove Cottages, I was able to have the wedding of my dreams. My family stayed in the cottages and we had a beautiful ceremony on the beach right before sunset. It was like a romantic fairy tale. We actually saved money that we were planning from the original wedding plans.Thank you Chad & Sharron for all that you have done for us! My buddies and I stayed at the SandDollar Cove Cottages for about 3 weeks for business/pleasure. We had the best time! Chad and Sharron were great hosts, they keep the place impeccable and their hospitality is 2nd to none. I would recommend SandDollar Cove Cottages to anyone looking for a great place that is private, beautiful, serene, quiet as well as AFFORDABLE! This is the place for the first-class deep-sea fishing, bone-fishing, scuba diving, site seeing, snorkeling, swimming. I could go on and on about the activities out here to do but there is no words to describe how amazing it really is. I plan on coming back next year my honeymoon. I can’t wait to bring my beautiful wife to be to this gorgeous island to stay at the SandDollar Cove Cottages. As a young couple, we don’t have a lot of $$ to start out with. That is why I am so thankful that this little piece of heaven exists and is available for next to nothing. You won’t get better service anywhere else.
