Awaken to a sun-drenched bedroom view of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Sip morning coffee in one of the lake-view sunrooms. Take an early, refreshing dip in the lake, have lunch at a nearby sidewalk cafe, or the incomparable Hudson's Hamburgers, and plan a day at the beach or seeing the sights. Later, walk across the park for a supper cruise or an evening of downtown dining and entertainment, then stroll home with the moon reflected across the shimmering water. Fall asleep with the stars shining through the skylight. The recently refurbished Gumprecht House is situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene in picturesque Northern Idaho. It offers spectacular views with comfortable and spacious, family-friendly accommodations plus close proximity to downtown shops and restaurants as well as the amenities of the famous Coeur d'Alene Resort. Enjoy water sports, lake cruises, bike trails, hiking, golf, antique shops, museums, art shows, performing arts, snow skiing and nature's beauty.

We are making a special effort to be both family-friendly as well as enjoyable for any party of adults, the vacation of cherished memories. The house is located but a short walk from all the fun and relaxation that Coeur d'Alene is known for. Families will find a game room with foosball, air hockey, kids' TV, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, DVD, kids videos, card games, board games, I-Pod dock, as well as a high chair, booster seat, kids dishes and sippy cups, portable crib, and training seat. There is a family room just off the kitchen with a blue-ray DVD player and home theater system. A total of 4 TV's ensure that the men, the women, and the kids can all watch their shows or videos. There is off street parking for 6 vehicles and the back fence opens on hinges to allow RV or boat parking.

The Gumprecht House is situated on property that once was part of Fort Sherman, established in 1878 to protect settlers. Eventually the property was auctioned and subdivided, creating the historic "Fort Grounds" neighborhood. Recently extensively renovated and refurbished, the house was originally constructed in 1907 as the first private beach home. It was built on the pick of the lots, and, consequently, enjoys unsurpassed views of beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene from 3 of the 5 bedrooms (including the fully-appointed 3rd floor master suite), 2 lake-view parlors, 2 lake-view sunrooms, and the east stairwell where a view of the famous Coeur d'Alene Resort is framed by the windows. The Gumprecht House is located on the beach, not near the beach, and the beach is a part of the property right down to the water line. The start for the Ironman Triathalon is located just across the street where also passes the 24-mile Centennial Trail. Within 4 blocks are the city park with bandshell and quaint children's playground (modeled after Fort Sherman), the city beach with lifeguards (in season), the Tubbs Hill nature preserve, downtown shops, sidewalk cafes, the very famous Hudson's Hamburgers (since 1907, 5th generation, a "must"--written up in many national publications including The Boston Globe, USA Today, Gourmet Magazine, Sunset, and named by the food editor of the Wall Street Journal as the best $2 hamburger in America), upscale dining and bistros, a community college with art fairs and performing arts, seaplane tours, cruise boats for sightseeing or supper cruises, parasailing, windsurfing, jet ski and boat rental, guided fishing, a micro brewery, and the world-famous Coeur d'Alene Resort. The Rotary tennis courts and the public library are 8 blocks.

A beautiful,immaculately-maintained public golf course is 3 miles and several nationally acclaimed courses are within an easy drive. In winter, the Resort sponsors heart-warming Holiday activities. Snow skiing is just a 25 mile ride up I-90 to the base of the world's longest gondola which takes you to the top of Silver Mountain. Schweitzer Basin is roughly 56 miles north off Highway 95. For further information see our Website and those of the Coeur d'Alene Visitors Bureau and the Coeur d'Alene Resort. In the midst of this near-paradise, we offer a friendly vacation home.

Owner's Map of Coeur d'Alene

Dr Donald G. Gumprecht was a resident of the Fort Grounds from 1951, growing up a block away from the beach, down Military Drive in a house now known as the Doctors' Inn. He swam nearly every summer day at "Graue's beach" and in 1977 was fortunate enough to purchase the house and beach property from the Graue family. In 1990 he relocated to Springfield, Illinois, and kept a caretaker in the house until 2005. Having recently remarried (Linda), the Gumprechts have devoted two years of loving attention, expense, and Linda's talent to preparing their home for their (and your) vacations, suitable for their (and your) family reunions, their (and your) children and grandchildren. Linda, a native midwesterner, fell in love with this house and it shows in every nuance.

Thanksgiving getaway

Guest: Rinbaby (Valleyford, Washington)
Date of Stay: 11/20/08 Review Submitted: 02/15/09

We thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving getaway at this elegant turn of the century tastefully restored lakeside manor. It has panoramic views down the northern reach of Couer d'Alene lake from nearly every room in the house including the two spacious glass enclosed front sitting rooms and the living room and third floor master bedroom. It has it's own private grass and sandy beach yet is within one block of the beautifully treed city park and 3 blocks from the CDA destination resort, and downtown CDA with its excellent restaurants, individual shops, and shopping malls. This home can be as formal or as practical as one wants. It is great for both adults who seek a quiet romantic getaway or a family with children looking for both indoor fun in the huge gameroom complete with bigscreen TV and video games and the multiple outdoor activities immediately available on the property and its private beach as well as the nearby beautiful city beach and its tree covered walkways.. We found this home clean, fully equipped and lacking nothing to make our stay trouble free and completely enjoyable. We highly recommend it for couples, groups of adults, or families. Whatever you want to get out of your North Idaho vacation experience is there for you in a truly remarkable setting.and beautiful beachfront manor.

Owner response:Thanks for the kind words.

What an amazing, beautiful place. We loved waking up to the views of the lake every morning. It was the perfect venue for us to stay as we did our first Ironman! Hate to have to leave, hope to be back one day. For now, we have many memories. With love, Linda, Ricci, Heather, Nicki, Senal - Fort Worth. Stacy and Patti - Colorado. Peter and Vanci - Palo Alto. This was our "home base" on race day.

Ideal Family Spot

Guest: Schmidt (Orem, UT )
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 11/20/10

We have stayed at this home for the last 2 years and are already reserved for 2011. We meet immediate family here each year and bring our kids and have a mini reunion. There are so many things that we love about this house that it is hard to name them all but here are some key things: The backyard is fenced and has a locking gate so all toddlers can play out there for hours while we eat and relax. The beach is directly across a non-busy street and the house comes equipped with all the beach toys you could want. Also, the hose and small shower outside are very nice to clean off. The formal dining room has closing doors on all sides so we are able to actually turn this into a mini computer room if any work needs to be done. There are a ton of chairs and couches and a great setting for family games at night. There is a piano which the older kids love. There is a basement kids room with Wii and all kinds of games for both genders and all ages. The floor is a cement floor so any cleaning up is very easy. There is a laundryroom equipped with laundry soap so we were able to keep up on that all week very easily. The views are amazing from many areas of the house. The house is also noise friendly so if some are up early in the morning, the upstairs is closed off so others can still sleep. The house also comes with things like garbage bags, paper towels, etc. which is nice not to have to bring. The neighbors are friendly and helpful. The city park is about 3 houses to the left and includes a walk around track and great play area and basketball courts and live bands periodically through the summer. Also, everything is walking distance pretty much in town. We store our boat the Coeur d'Alene Resort and it is about a 10 minute walk at most and we can practically see it from the house. We highly recommend this house to any type of renters. The Schmidt Family

Owner response:Thank you very much for the kind review. We are happy to see the Schmidts back each year and take particular pleasure in being able to provide enjoyment for all ages and family combinations. Thanks again.

Satisfied Family

Date of Stay: 06/13/10 Review Submitted: 07/15/10

Mr.and Mrs Gumprecht, Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your beautiful home. We took our son, and five of his friends, for their 8th grade graduation. The kids had so much fun and they loved the park. It was wonderful to be in walking distance to everything. One afternoon, I just sat on your front steps, and soaked in the amazing view. An older couple came by and told me what a beautiful house it was - I totally agreed with them. We hope to come back next year. The only thing that could have made it better...was the weather. It was about 65, but the sun was shining. Happy Summer, The Taylors. Guests on June 13-16

Family Reunion

Guest: Farn Boy (ritzville, WA. US)
Date of Stay: 05/15/09 Review Submitted: 05/20/09

House was immaculate. Well stocked. Wonderful linens. So comfortable. Enjoyed sitting out front & just soaking in the view. Parking was difficult. Could use an elevator up to 3rd floor. Packing luggage up to 3rd floor a bit tedious. Admired the fine finishing touches in the house and the attention to detail. The family remarked several times, what a good idea it was to rent this home for all of us. We just felt so comfortable in it. A pleasant weekend for all of us. Friends who visited us thought perhaps the house was so comfortable they may want to rent it sometime!

Owner response:Thanks for the nice review. Since 2009 we have made improvements in the parking. By moving the garage 6 feet closer to the house (6 feet further away from the alleyway) the angles required to reach the 6 parking spots are much easier to negotiate. The back fence is also on gate hinges such that the yard itself could be used for special items such as a trailer. I'm not sure where an elevator to the third floor would fit, but the view should be worth any extra effort required to enjoy it. Regards, Don Gumprecht
