Why the Owner Chose Kapaa

We built our cottage in 2007 from the ground up and put all our love and energy into creating a restful, peaceful home away from home for our family & friends. The location is so central to all the wonderful scenic spots to enjoy on Kauai. The hubbub of Kapaa Town is a short 7 min. drive away, Hanalei Bay is only 45 mins, & Waimea Canyon is only 55 mins. away. And all along the drive north are spectacular lonely beaches that take your breath away. There's a reason Hollywood comes here to film! You won't be disappointed at what Kauai has to offer, even Disco Bowling if you're so inclined!

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

Some of our great benefits to where we are is the proximity to gorgeous hiking trails. Our Makaleha Mountains are a dream for the experienced & fit hiker, where you will enjoy refreshing river pools. For the less experienced there is Hoopii Falls just down the street. All along Kealia Stream which is a short walk from our house are clean, cooling swimming pools to enjoy. Sleeping Giant Mountain is a short drive away, also, and of course the Na Pali Trail to Kalalau is about 45 mins away. Many others close by,too which we can tell you about.

We are also a 7 min. drive to Kealia Beach, a beautiful, sandy crescent beach, (lifeguarded), which has picnic tables, bathroom & showers, all new.
And you can roast your marshmallows right on the beach at a bonfire. Where in the States can you do that anymore?
Lydgate Beach, also lifeguarded, is a wonderful snorkel paradise where you'll feel you're in an aquarium, is 15 mins away. Our community built 2 fantastic playgrounds for children there, also.

Owner's Map of Kapaa

We have been living in the Hawaiian islands for over 25 years. After living on Maui for 14 years, we searched and found our beautiful property on Kauai in 1998. The view of Makeleha Waterfalls was too gorgeous to walk away from, so we decided to build our "DreamHome" here. Fast forward a few years later and we now have our own "slice of paradise". We just had to share this great place with our family and friends, so we also built a separate Cottage which we named "Mana Falls".

The Hawaiian woman who actually named our street "Ho`omaha Place" about 35 years ago, told me how she came upon that name. It means "a place to Rejuvenate or Restore" and that is exactly how it feels to us and everyone who comes to visit. Just seeing the majestic mountains each morning gives me such peace and a sense of renewing my spirit. Meditation comes so easily here!! Hence the name "Mana Falls" which you may know, is another word for Spirit.

We would welcome the opportunity to share our little island paradise with you and hope you will have a wonderful, spirit-lifting vacation of your dreams.

Cute Cottage

Guest: Anna L.
Date of Stay: 01/16/12 Review Submitted: 01/30/12

This was a cute cottage with all the amenities as described. We didn't see any waterfalls from the cottage itself (depends on rain level), but we took the short drive and hike to No Name Falls, which was a treat. We rented a Jeep and explored all over the island. Kapaa was a nice home base, central, and close to lots of restaurants. We made good use of the guidebook in the basket next to the couch and visited different beaches every day. Our favorites were Poipu, Anini, Tunnels, Ke'e, Malehepu, and Secret Beach. Beware of crowing roosters every morning--they are a nice reminder that you are on vacation from city life. We left the windows open most of the time, and the breeze was enough to cool us during the winter. Thanks for the welcome presents!

Our personal mini-home in paradise

Guest: Karen M. (Norwich, Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 12/18/11 Review Submitted: 12/29/11

This tiny 1 bedroom cottage up in the hills of Kapaa was the perfect homebase for our exploration of the island of Kauai.Centrally located and near to town, everything was a quick drive away. Having a kitchen saved us a bit of money on meals, internet connection worked great, and the nightly rains of winter lulled us to sleep. We stayed with our 6 year old daughter, and the owners provided an air mattress and sheets for her. Having a bathtub was nice in addition to the shower. The extra space of this cottage helped us feel relaxed, since we could feel safe and spread out our belongings like it was home. Beach towels, coolers, snorkel gear, and friendly advice is included with this property! The welcome gifts were also a nice touch. We traveled nearly every road on this compact island, took a tour by boat along the NaPali coast, and a helicopter ride over the areas we could not drive to. The boat trip was very rough, December may not be the best time to ride the seas! The helicopter ride was incredible, not to be missed. Driving to the North Shore and around to Waimea Canyon are also scenic, relaxing, and not too far. We took a private wild adventure tour with a local to learn about wild edible foods growing on the island, and he took us to a somewhat secret, local beach along a steep path. If we return to Kauai, we would love to stay here again!

This Cottage Made Our Vacation

Guest: Akiko and Paul (PASADENA)
Date of Stay: 10/06/11 Review Submitted: 11/07/11

We can't say "Thank You" enough to Michelle and Tony. Staying with them really was like staying with family. From the comfy cottage to the fresh baked banana bread we felt very well taken care of and left to our own devices all in the perfect amounts. Tony is an expert surfer and he patiently gave us a SUP lesson one afternoon. He had my wife up and paddling in less than 5 minutes. Michelle welcomed us with treats and really gave us some great info on where to eat on the island. It was almost like we got our own personal tour guides. Next time we come to Kauai we are definitely staying here. The Cottage was spacious and well appointed. Their property is beautiful and has plenty of space to where you don't feel like they are right next to you. Overall we think it's the perfect amount of privacy for such a place. Thanks guys for the hospitality and making our vacation as close to perfect as you can.

Beatiful place with views of waterfalls

Guest: Tod (Boston)
Date of Stay: 08/24/11 Review Submitted: 09/24/11

We loved the beaches in Kauai but this place felt like a paradise off the beaches of the island. The place was better than a hotel and perfect fit for a couple or a couple with a child, like we were. The fresh avocados from the garden were tasty as any tropical fruit that we tasted on the island. The papayas were juicy and sweet and the views in the morning from the porch were awesome. Thank you Michelle and Tony.

Owner response:Thank YOU for being great guests! Hope we get to see you again and good wishes on your future travels! aloha nui loa, Michelle and Tony

Beautiful, Private Dream Getaway Cottage

Guest: Liz + Scott (Brooklyn, New York)
Date of Stay: 08/02/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

Mana Falls was definitely our Gem and Gold Brick (reference to the Kauai Guidebook) of VBRO's to date. It is a beautiful, new cottage with all the amenities one needs for a relaxing vacation. It was nice to leave the tourist bustle of the north shore and retreat back to our cottage surrounded by nature. We were able to cook dinner most nights, thanks to the wonderful, local Farmer's Market located just down the street from the cottage. It's the best farmer's market on the island. The hosts, Michelle and Tony, were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Tony can teach just about anyone how to paddle board, which was a highlight for our trip. I'd recommend this cottage to friends, family, and just about anyone going to Kauai who wants to truly experience the island. We'll definitely be back soon.

Owner response:Many blessings to you Liz & Scott for the very kind words! We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves here and hope we do see you in the future! Mahalo nui loa!

We had a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage! It felt like home! Thank you for the banana bread, it was delicious! We enjoyed hiking along the NaPali coast and searching for rare endemic birds in the Alakai Swamp. We saw at least 15 species of fish snorkeling at Poipu. We had quite a bit of rain, but the rainbows made it worth it. Thanks again for your hospitality!
