We found this to be a perfect base camp for my wife and I to use for exploring Vinalhaven. Close to town, tucked away in a quiet island neighborhood, immaculate, and simply but more-than-adequately furnished. A lot of thought and aesthetic sense have gone into making what may sound like a relatively small space very attractive and comfortable. The bedroom is downright spacious. The kitchen area was stocked with everything we needed to easily cook lobster, mussel and steak dinners for each night of our stay. Ditto breakfasts and lunches ... we ate out only once (Harbor Gawker, for a great haddock sandwich and cup of clam chowder.) for relaxing, the morning sun warms the front deck and then by noon is shining the back, very private seating area. We also took full advantage of the fat binder Stacey and Scott have thoughtfully stuffed with information they've collected about the island, including its myriad walking trails and points of interest. And though, as noted in the description, the cottage is in a neighborhood setting, we never found noise or anything else to be a problem. In fact, we loved the convenience of being just a short walk into town, and through a very peaceful village. Big congrats to Stacey and Scott for making the cottage so comfortable and hospitable ... we're certainly hoping we can schedule another visit to it soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My hubby and I honeymooned on Vinalhaven and stayed in this wonderful, peaceful little cottage. The owners are a sweet couple that take loving care of their cottage and property (garden was in full bloom!). It felt clean and fresh and sooo inviting! We spent most of every day walking around and exploring the island, but coming back to the cottage every afternoon or evening was always a treat. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make several of our own meals out of locally grown organic produce and lobsters and crabs from the co-op. We rented bikes in Rockland at Bikesenjava, and ferried over with them. Get yourselves to Vinalhaven! We can't wait to return and stay again at the cottage!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We spent a week in September in this cottage and the weather was with us. As the daylight grew shorter, we realized that there weren't enough lamps to allow for evening reading--a disappointment the photos hadn't revealed. For personal comfort, we'd have brought additional pillows beyond the two provided. Anyone with mobility issues would want to pick a different place as the steps to the front door are tricky and the flight of stairs to the loft bedroom are quite steep. The bathroom is downstairs so middle of the night visits could be a challenge. The shower stall wouldn't have accommodated any but a slender sort of person. But the location's best feature was a short walk to the ARCafe--a must see spot to visit every day, sometimes twice a day. The neighbor, an ambitious house remodeler, was truly delightful. Vinalhaven's waterfront is an authentic experience and we got up at 4:30 to see the lobstermen arrive and get underway for their day's work, and again when they came back in. All restaurants are fine but the Harbor Gawker is a must eat at kind of place. We had a car and ventured to the four corners of the island, down dirt roads and discovered many fine vistas. Vinalhaven never disappoints. As good tenants, we took care of a few things like defrosting the fridge and adding kerosene to the Monitor Heater. The cottage was clean upon arrival and we left it tidy as we found it. Let's hope that the newish owners add some lamps for the upcoming rental season.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for your review and thoughts! We will be adding more lights as a few people commented on the darkness issue. This property is definitely suited for people who are active and agile. For future reference, the monitor heater runs from a large kerosene tank located outside the house, so please do not fill the little, indoor tank, which does not fuel the heater.
