Honua Kai's location, situated on Kaanapali's North Beach, offers direct beach access and is a short jaunt to Lahaina Town (5 minutes) and the majestic country of Kapalua and Honolua Bay (10minutes). Congrats on discovering what is the best find for vacations on Maui in 2011 and beyond.
There are a # of 1 bedroom suites advertised as oceanview on VRBO. The interiors of these suites are exquisitely appointed featuring Bosch appliances, granite counter tops, and top of the line fixtures. State of the art thru and thru. Furnished turnkey, virtually all are identical. A privileged setting, but assessing beyond this can prove quite daunting. Here are a few considerations that factored into our choice to purchase Suite 616 Hokulani and might help in your choice of rental...Honua Kai may be heavenly but as the saying goes...The devil is in the details…..
#1 Oceanview? Does the listing have legitimate photos of the view from the unit. If so how many vantage points..Is it just one that skews reality. Is it more "building-view" than ocean-view or ocean-glimpse?
Suite 616 Hokulanai, offers the best of both worlds…what defines West Maui and Kaanapali it’s chaperon the West Maui Mountains and Maui’s famed ocean-scape. Thanks to the neighboring development’s construction being suspended InJoy a panoramic view from Mauka (mountains) to Makai (ocean).
#2 Privacy - The southern exposure of Hokulani benefits from the suspended development next door with unrivaled privacy. In addition, many of the 1 Bedroom unit lanais (balconies) are encroached by neighboring 2 Bedroom balconies. A voyeurs delight maybe... but definitely a compromised lack of privacy.
Suite 616 HOKULANI was purchased specifically because the 16 series has no encroachment from neighboring lanais and offers the most lanai privacy of any 1 Bedroom!
#3 Location Orientation...NE Trade winds are responsible for Hawaii's near perfect temperatures. They act as a natural air conditioner to our tropical climate. A blessing and a curse. A curse, that is, if you’re trying to enjoy a balcony that is exposed directly to them. Southern exposure suites in the HOKULANI are not exposed to those trade winds! Sunshine, much like the trade winds has a predictable pattern. Southern exposure suites are graced with an abundance of sunshine year-round.
Suite 616 Hokulani as a southern exposure, high floor suite offers spectacular views, in a private setting, in harmony with the elements of nature.
As a Maui residents/owner, we reside 5 minutes from our beach condo. A personalized experience is extended from greeting and checking in each guest to providing an insiders perspective on Maui. And should anything unexpected arise we are minutes away.

This is a great property! The grounds, pool area and Dukes Restaurant are all top notch. Great view of the ocean and the mountains. The unit is well kept and suited our group of two adults and two post teens just fine. The beach area is rocky and not good for swimming. Go to the south about 100-200 yds and there is great snorkeling. Black Rock is a short drive and accomodates both swimming and snorkeling. DT Fleming beach is north of the property, but an easy drive with plenty of parking. Highly recommend this property and unit, would go back again without any hesitation.

My husband and I spent 10 days at this beautiful spot and had a perfect holiday. The condo is very clean with everything you need for your stay, we felt right at home here. The view from the lanai is awesome and we enjoyed many cups of coffee and many glasses of wine out there while enjoying that view. The resort itself is very nice and very well kept, we enjoyed the pools and hot tubs and Duke's is really good if you feel like a meal out. We used the barbecues alot and found them very handy to have for our dinners in. There is a really great walkway from Honua Kai to Whaler's Village that we used almost daily to get our exercise in and to check out some new restaurants. The beach is also good for walking and we spent many days snorkeling right out front of the resort, having the snorkel gear & beach chairs in the condo was a huge bonus! Overall we had an amazing holiday here and will recommend this condo to everyone.

This condo is not only beautiful but a great place to stay with its amenaties and all the comforts of home. We came to the island to get married and stay for a honeymoon after the wedding. The room was very comfortable and we quiet, as we never heard and barely saw another soul. The condo had an excellent location and parking was great! The ania market and Dukes restaurants were great too. We loved everything about our stay, and we look forward to staying at this particular condo again. I had a friend staying at a more costly condo next door and they were amazed at the quality and price for the unit saying that the Hokulani put their condo to shame. It was a wonderful experience working with the owners too, thanks again!

We enjoyed our Maui visit and the location of our condo was just right since our daughter and her family were staying at the adjacent Westin Resort condos...we ate all breakfasts, some lunches and two dinners on the lanai which made for enjoyable dinnning...we had great food from Dukes and enjoyed every sunset...our grandchildren had alot of fun in all the pools, slides and other water features available on Hanua Kai...easy access to the excellent beach was also a real plus...and we used the beach walkway to walk to a from Wailer's village, about 45 minutes each way...all in all, an excellent value for such a great location and facility

Our family of 4 was very comfortable here. The snorkeling is great. There is a beach a short distance away for good boogie boarding and all the other west shore activities are conveniently close. Thanks for a fun vacation.

My new wife and I were given this honeymoon from our parents. We enjoyed it so much, the condo was just as stated to us. The accomadations could not have been better. We truly enjoined all the comforts of home. It felt as if we had lived here forever. The owners could not have been any easier to deal with and were so friendly and helpful. We would recommend this condo and location to anyone who wants a fun, relaxing and homey vacation.

It's very easy to give five stars. The condo was perfect for my husband and I. It has everything you could want, beautiful view of both the West Maui mountains and the ocean with a great view of Lanai. We spent our mornings drinking coffe and watching the sun come up and the evenings enjoying the wonderful views.and the sun going down. The condo is very clean with a super comfortable bed, large bathroom and kitchen which we made good use of. The Honua Kai has beautiful grounds and is close to everything. This was our second visit to Honua Kai and our first at #616. You will not be disapointed. Thank you Chris, we hope to visit again soon.

Chris was exceptionally nice and helpful - he met us when we arrived and showed us to the condo. It was fantastic ... good size, everything was new and nice, HDTVs in the living area and bedroom, great (really great) bed, huge deck wth glass doors that you can open all the way ... nothing better than just having everything wide open, but then closing up and having air conditioning when you need it. Great snorkeling out front, nice pool for lounging with drinks from Dukes, and its a low key area (not busy). Nice boardwalk as well for taking a run, and we used the exercise room a few days as well. All in all, everything we could have asked for, no regrets at all. Will consider bringing our younger children next time ... it seemed very family friendly.

My mother, daughter and I recently spent 8 nights here and they were amazing! The condo is in a great location with a beautiful view of the ocean. We spent every morning enjoying the wonderful scenery. The property is gorgeous and well maintained. Chris was a great host and greeted us at the resort upon arrival. I was a little nervous renting from an owner because I had never done it before and I will say it was great!! We will absolutly stay here again and would like to thank Chris for such an awesome experience:).
