As we drove into the driveway on the first day, a deer in the front yard welcomed us to the property. We found everything to be just as it was presented in the VRBO description. The kitchen and living room were well equipped, comfortable, and serviceable. We were comfortable sleeping and satisfied with the bedroom amenities. The bathrooms were well equipped and very serviceable, although a bit small. We were part of a 4-VRBO group of a family reunion - all within a mile of each other, so we often ate together as a large group at Grand Lake restaurants or had picnics on the Grand Lake beach area. One of the other 4 VRBOs was large enough to accommodate all of us for a couple of evening get-togethers. We found our property to be very comfortable and we were sorry to leave when it came time. We remarked that a winter stay would be very appropriate in this house - it seemed well built and probably warm and cozy in the winter. Grand Lake is beautiful, cold for swimming, but well stocked for several different water craft rides. Shopping is excellent and very friendly. It was truly an ideal place for a family reunion . The directions to locate the house were very well done, and the "open up" and "close down" directions were clear and complete. On the morning of a our second day, 15 deer walked and ate within 15 feet of the back deck. Thank you for sharing your house with us. It has our highest recommendation. ( Sorry, but the "date of arrival" portion of the window below does not comply - it doesn't allow to go back to July, 2011

We had a great time at the Deer Chalet. It was a nice retreat after spending a couple days in Estes Park and then heading over to Grand Lake. We (wife and 2 preschool-age children) like to go, go, go, and the Deer Chalet was a great place to come back to for meals and relaxation. Every afternoon, we had a least one mule deer resting in a spot in the side yard when we pulled in the driveway. We saw 2 bull moose near town, and a town of wildlife in Rocky Mountain National Park. In mid-summer, I recommend an dusk drive up Trail Ridge Road...wow! And the town of Grand Lake is charming and laid back with some gorgeous views. After experiencing Grand Lake, I'm not sure we'll ever go back to crowds and traffic jams of Estes Park. We are already talking to family about a future family reunion in Grand Lake!
Owner response:Matt: Thank you for your kind comments and I am very glad that you enjoyed your stay in Grand Lake. It is a wonderful location and so much more than Estes Park, with far fewer people, traffic and congestion. It absolutely demonstrates that Less is MORE! Hope to see you again in the future. Fall is simply spectacular with the Golden Aspen, Elk bugling in the valleys of RMNP and even fewer people; but more wildlife. Stephen

We spent a week in the Bender's chalet and had a wonderful time hiking in the Grand Lake area and in the Rocky Mt. National Park. We did not have to go to the park to see wildlife. They were right in the yard and neighborhood. We saw moose, bears, elk, deer and fox, moose and deer in the yard..

Spending our Christmas vacation in your chalet was wonderful. The Chalet was stocked with everything but a corkscrew. We played games that were there and had enough room for all 8 of us and 2 dogs. While walking back to the chalet from the sledding hill we saw a cow moose and her calf sitting on the front yard of your one of your neighbors. I would love to come by and stay at your chalet in the summer time. We had a great time and found your chalet clean, warm and inviteing.

This was our first family vacation. We wanted something that felt like home...with enough separate sleeping areas for everyone. We made a great choice!!! The chalet is exactly as described. Very comfortable...quiet. We would recommend Stephen's chalet to anyone....and have. The Grand Lake area is beautiful. The people are very friendly...and the chalet is a great choice for a vacation stay.

This chalet was the perfect get-a-way location for my wife and I as we celebrated our 25th anniversary in Grand Lake. The home had everything we needed and more as we enjoyed preparing our own meals, watching DVD movies and listening to our favorite music CDs when we weren't hiking our way around nearby Rocky Mountain National Park and other recreation areas. The Columbine Lake area was incredibly quiet with no street lights. We felt like we could grab stars out of the night sky! And we didn't have to go far to find moose, with several spotted within a half mile of the chalet. We certainly wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend this chalet to anyone.

We had a phenomenal 3 weeks in the cabin - it is beautifully furnished, well-stocked with essentials and located in a wonderful spot. We saw elk & fox & moose in the yard during our stay, and we loved being so close to both the national park and the lakes. We highly recommend this cabin - the owners have done a great job making it a real home away from home. Thanks for a wonderful, memorable vacation.

This Chalet was exactly what we were looking for. We were very comfortable with all aspects of the home. I would recommend this home to anyone interested in staying in Grand Lake. The house is in a wonderful subdivision, which I have stayed in before on several occassions. Best wishes to all. Kim

The chalet was absolutely wonderful! We enjoyed a 4 night stay in early June '07, and we were extremely happy. We were thrilled to see deer in the yard on 2 mornings, a gray fox not far from the house, and moose at the lake entrance. If you are looking for a peaceful and serene place, then you can't go wrong by renting this chalet.

Your place is awesome! This was really a home away from home. We had a blast. Our boys were so excited when they saw a couple of moose. And we all had so much fun tubing in Fraser. We will definitely rent again. Thank you so much.

What a beautiful area! The drive coming from Denver was breathtaking. The kids were delighted with the snow, especially since they had never seen more than a few inches coming from central Texas. The cabin was cozy and just perfect for our family. We went snowmobiling with On the Trail and had a great time. We would love to come back some day and would definately recommend it to our friends. Thanks so much!
