'The house was nice and clean. Lots of extras which we appreciated borrowing: ice chest, flashlights, umbrellas, re-usable tote bags. Loved the extra warm and cozy blankets'.
This house (Built in 2003) is located in one of the last high-altitude rain forests in the U.S. centrally located, near the village of Volcano (altitude approx. 3600 ft) four miles from the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the heart of the Big Island of Hawaii. Only 30 minutes from Hilo and 2 hours from Kona .
The house is decorated with island art and comfortable seating areas. Your every need will be met. Enjoy creating your meals in our well equipped, well lit kitchen or dine out at one of the many restaurants in Volcano Village or inside the Volcanoes National Park. From fine dining to casual there's something for everyone's taste and budget. Enjoy a glass of wine in the evening while gazing at the immense star filled sky or the romantic outside lighted ferns from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Cuddle up in comfort in the living room & watch a movie using the Roku Streaming Player or listen to any number of music channels from the satellite TV or your own iPod or iPhone connected to the stereo system. Then enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in our luxurious beds. This is where you will find a truly peaceful, relaxing getaway.
In the morning have your coffee on the lanai (deck) with the sounds of the local birds playing in the surrounding fern forest while you consider your days adventure from the numerous list of options provided in our 10 page introduction email.
This house consists of a downstairs bedroom with queen size bed, spacious living room with cathedral ceiling and full sized convertible sofa, complete kitchen and a tiled bathroom with a luxurious spa-size tub with private views into the forest.
This property is very private. You can not see any neighbors due to the very dense tropical rain forest.
There is a roomy upstairs bedroom with a New (2012) Queen sized iComfort Sleep System by Serta bed and a futon including 4 inches of full size memory foam to use any where you wish. The upstairs bedroom is accessed from the living room by way of a securely fastened ships ladder.
We are located only four miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park This is where you can view the steam vents and explore lava tubes. Some are located closer to Hilo which are all part of the same series of tubes carved out 500-700 years ago. I can provide you with information on visiting the best lava tubes on the island. For more volcano information click on the link to our web site below.
In Volcano Village about three minutes away you can be enjoying one of our many charming restaurants, shops or art galleries. Volcanoes National Park and surrounding areas have many beautiful hikes to choose from. Don’t forget to visit the Volcano Winery and take in a round of golf at the Volcano Golf & Country Club.
The Old Town of Hilo with its Historic Tsunami Museum and bay front shopping, glorious parks and waterfalls and snorkeling beaches are a short thirty minute drive North of Volcano. Thirty minutes in the opposite direction heading South of Volcano is one of the Big Island of Hawaii's best beaches, Punalu'u Black sand beach. It is known for its green sea turtles and beautiful black sand.
There is no where else you will find a community as charming and creative as Volcano Village. Hanging around the quaint Volcano Village restaurants and chatting with the locals is a great way to see and feel the Island aloha spirit. There is a mix of artists, musicians, writers and more. Be sure to make it to the local farmers market held every Sunday morning.
If you love orchids there is an orchid growing warehouse just down the highway called Akatsuka Orchid Gardens. They have some of the world’s rarest and most unusual orchids. A feast of color for the eyes. You may see them blooming in our gardens depending on the time of year.
At Richardson Bay 30 minutes from the house in Hilo There are beaches with great snorkeling. This area is great for bringing the kids. There are a lot more things to do and see, there are water falls, botanical gardens, lava flows into the ocean (when active) and great restaurants.
I can provide you with more info on all that and much more when you book your stay with us. As an added bonus there are no mosquitoes in this area because of it's a cooler climate.
Your host is located near-by. Should you have any special needs or requests, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Wonderful place to stay so you are near Volcano Nat'l Park. The home is beautiful with a nice deck and the floor to ceiling windows are amazing...yet you have all the privacy you need. Our kids loved the big bed and space in the loft...their own kid-zone space, and we all enjoyed the WiFi. The owner was very good to with, and offers a very nice place for such a reasonable price.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wonderful little house in the midst of the rainforest! Very quiet neighborhood and very clean house. Wonderful plants and VERY convenient location to discover everything in Volcano National Park. Tracy was also incredible to send us info about various places to shop and places to go.....most valuable. Her directions and maps were perfect. It was a treat to have the dish cable and the washer and dryer. Thanks so much.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The house was in a very convenient location for accessing Volcano National Park, and closer to Hilo then I was expecting. It has a gorgeous setting with trees and flowers right up against the floor to ceiling windows. The upstairs room was great fun for the kids and really helpfully had two extra beds in in with loads of bedding so we didn't need the sofa bed in the sitting room Our only slightly negative comment was the fridge and freezer in the kitchen are very small, which made bringing food in from Hilo difficut. The options for buying food in Volcano village are very limited. We ate fresh fruit and bread from the great market in Hilo.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Everything was as good or better than described! The maintance and cleanliness of this home was worthy of a brand new home! Be warned the place is easy to fall in love with especially the lanai and the landscaping, and the perfect place to fall in love or fall deeper in love! Thanks for the vacation of my wildest dreams!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Tammy, I'm so glad you liked the house. I wish I could live there full time! I really enjoy making the gardens look the most tropical that I can. I put another orchid in the ferns or trees every time I'm there. Hope you can make it out here again sometime. Mahalo!

Our stay at the Rainforest Retreat was fantastic. The pictures give a very accurate depiction, it was very clean and there was drinking water provided. The location was great for doing all the things we enjoyed around the volcano and also driving down to South Point, the black sand beach and all places in between. The Thai restaurant in Volcano lived up to it's reviews, we ate there two nights in a row. The owner was prompt in returning my phone calls with questions and the booking went very smoothly. I would definitely recommend the Rainforest Retreat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time here. It was so strange and beautiful to be in that climate. It rained a lot but was not cold or uncomfortable. The house was lovely and with the extra mattresses in the loft my kids were very comfortable. We walked a lot and the convenience to the state park was nice. The tips from the owner were also a huge plus! I would add to that the convenience of the military camp facilities in the park (Starbucks, cafeteria, general store).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

The place met our expectations. The numerous resource books available helped plan our excursions. The tide pools were a hit with the kids...most of them that is:). For a family of 5, it was just the right size. It was much colder than we expected for July, but we made due with socks and the robes that were available. Don't buy too much food at the beginning as the fridge does not hold too much...gal. of milk, doz. ,eggs, a few veggies. Also, the freezer is quite small so don't buy a container of ice cream unless you're going to eat it as soon as you arrive. If you want have the chance to live in the forest, close to the volcano, and not have many neighbors, this is the place for you. I would highly recommend it.Did you find this review helpful? Thanks for a wonderful stay. Great location - just a few minutes away from the Volcano village and Volcano park. The covenient location made it easy for us to go to the Volcano park in the morning, head back to the rainforest house to let our son take a nap in the afternoon, and then venture back to the Volcano park to see the crater glow at night. Our son loved climbing the ladder to go to the upper bedroom. The house was nice and clean. Lots of extras which we appreciated borrowing: ice chest, flashlights, umbrellas, re-usable tote bags. Loved the extra warm and cozy blankets. Enjoyed the rainforest surrounding while we ate breakfast in the bright living room/dining room every morning. Hope that we will get the opportunity to visit and stay here again in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We stayed for 3 nights in April 2012. My husband, myself and out 3 young boys. It was great to have some space to spread out in after being cooped up in a single hotel room for a few days. The kids LOVED the loft upstairs! I was a little nervous of the steep ladder, but they thought it was great! We used the kitchen and cooked/prepped all of our meals there. It was perfect! The fridge is on the smaller siz- like a large dorm fridge, but it held milk, soda, and 3 days worth of groceries without any problems. We enjoyed several of the activities that Tracy outlined including 1 1/2 days visiting Volcano National Park, Black Sand Beach, lava cave exploring, and Rainbow Falls. We had a great time and enjoyed the house! Thanks for sharing it with us!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This is a great house. It was clean, well decorated and in a perfect location. It is just a few miles from Volcano National Park and the little village of Volcano. There are a few nice places for breakfast nearby and the house kitchen is well equipped for cooking a nice dinner. It is best to stop for groceries in Hilo on your way into town, since there is not a great grocery store in Volcano. I took a jog around the neighborhood and the surrounding area is lovely.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I've been a business owner for an ever growing Residential and Commercial cleaning company for the last 10 years. I have cleaned other owners vacation rentals during that time and decided that was where I needed to invest my savings. I'm adventurous and I love life!
Why the Owner Chose Volcano:
I love this area of the Big Island. The temperature is perfect most of the time. The idea that the land around here is new and more land is being created all the time is fascinating to me. I could watch the lava flow for hours. I also can't get enough of snorkeling on the islands. The sea life here is absolutely amazing. I'm not sure which I love more.
Come and experience it for yourself. I will be happy to share the wonders of the Big Island with you so that you will go home knowing you have had the best vacation of your life.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I think the best thing I like about the house is the peace and quiet. The variety of birds and their songs are so beautiful. Listen for them at the end of the video. Mornings are the best sitting on the lanai drinking tea. The variety of plants and flowers will amaze you as they do me as I learn what will grow in this area! Something is always blooming. And the stargazing OMG the stargazing!
