We are located in the tall pines of northern Arizona between Flagstaff & Williams. Our cabins are nearly 100 yrs. old so very rustic & unique. They are decorated with antique furniture from our own family estate.
We have converted what once was the living room into the king bedroom. The kitchen is part of that large room. In the 2 back bedrooms are the queen bed in one & the bunk beds in the other.
There is a full bath in the Bunk House. Roger's Cabin is a one room log cabin with a queen bed, shower, toilet, sink, small fridge & microwave. It is a detached unit.
In the summer evenings we walk quietly as to not disturb the herd of bull elk that graze their way through the east side which is national forest. You can't miss the scent of fresh clean air, clear mountain skies, & the sound of silence in the evenings.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1983

We met in Holbrook while I was still in high school, (in the late 1960's) but were not married until 1997. My daddy thought Andy was too old & wild for his daughter. so we gave up the fight. I went to college & & Andy went to work at a local power plant.
I bought these old cabins in 1983 but Andy didn't join me until 1997. Together we have 5 daughters, 1 son, a lot of grandchildren. Also in the family is 1 dog, 3 cats, & 1 big 'ol horse named
Chief. Andy uses him for an authentic pony express ride from Holbrook to Scottsdale every January. It's a 280 mi. trip over mountains, snow & risky roads. We both belong to a re-enactment group dubbed "The Bucket of Blood" ( which has a long history in its self) We pass on accurate Arizona history mostly involving the Pleasant Valley War which went on for years between ranchers fighting over land & water. Andy's grandpa had a ranch in Pleasant Valley but was never involved in the war.
I was raised mostly on the Navajo Indian reservation. Daddy & his brothers were traders with trading posts north of Holbrook, both of my parents were fluent in Navajo. None of the adults spoke english at family reunions or in front of a sales man.
We both have country roots. Andy lived in Joseph City but we both went to school in Holbrook. Andy thought Holbrook girls were city girls. Now you have to REALLY
be a country bumpkin to think that. I've loved that bumpkin since I was 15 yrs. old!

Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff

After years of renting the Bunk House on a monthly basis we thought it would be a lot more fun to remodel it & rent it as a vacation home. It's a perfect location, next to the forest but not a very far drive from Flagstaff or the Grand Canyon. Most of the decor is just family items we already had. Some of my favorite items are Andy's dad's saddle & a picture of my G.G.grandpa in his southern civil war uniform.
We've met some wonderful people from all over the world and USA.
Remodeling the Bunk House & Roger's Cabin as vacation rentals has been one of the few GREAT ideas we have had.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

We enjoy the quiet & solitude of living out of the fast pace of the city. The cabins are over 100 years old, the Bunk House was built out of railroad ties that were milled in Flagstaff about the turn of the century. We were born & raised in northern Arizona so this little spot of heaven is ideal for us. We like to take our horses just across the forest service fence and ride for hours. The Arizona sunsets, quiet & clear night skies, & the scent of crisp, clean air is a reason to live here forever. It's a reason to stay even tho we have to haul our own water. It's a reason to stay so we can walk over to the historic Parks in the Pines store, get a sandwich & visit with other locals. It's a reason to endure harsh winters to see the elk & other wild life in the summer. Fighting the maddening crowds in Flagstaff reminds us of all our reasons to stay. The quiet nights remind me of my own remote life out at the trading post, a life style that time left behind. Our life here & our own log cabin brings it back to me & that is a reason to live here.

relaxing Anniversary and Christmas

Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/25/11

This is the second time we have been here; we came to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary in October 2011 & returned for Christmas 2011. We feel like we are at home; everything is PERFECT! The new floors and change of furniture made the cabin more roomy. It is peaceful, cozy and relaxing. Love the decor. Thank you Andy and Linda for being wonderful Host. Thank you for the cookies and pie ... delicious!! Definitely will be back to bring FAMILY!!

Owner response:Thank you so much for your review. It's so great to have guests that return. I was so embarrassed about the pie, when we went to have some I realized I forgot the sugar! My little grandson wanted to make the pie himself with "a little" of my help so I totally spaced out the sugar. He made the cookies too with his Mom. Good memories. It was great to have you guys come back, glad you like to changes. I love the new wood floors too. I've wanted to do that for years. Bring the kids and burn some marsh mellows out on the fire pit. :~) We have told a lot of friends about your "twin" dogs. Happy New Year, Linda

Great location for exploring Northern AZ in subtle comfort!

Date of Stay: 11/21/11 Review Submitted: 12/01/11

My family and I rented this cabin for the week of Thanksgiving and could not be more pleased. The location is great for exploring northern Arizona, roughly mid-way between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ. It's about a hour to the Grand Canyon, and near all of the natural beauty and adventures that the area has to offer (Lave Tube caves, meteor crater, Flagstaff shopping and dining, and the railroad train to the Grand Canyon which departs from Williams. The accomodations are relatively modest for some (no oven - microwave only, half-size fridge, space heaters), but all of the rustic basics are available (hot/cold water, clean linens, 1 king, 1 queen, 1 set of bunk beds). The cabin is the in the middle of a national forest, and is in a beautiful wilderness location just minutes from everything modern. Highly recommended -- we really enjoyed our stay!

Best Family Vacation Ever!!!!!

This cabin is just what my family needed. The description written by the owners was very accurate. I thought I would miss the stove but didnt even think about it one time. We used the grill and the crockpot. There was more than enough room for my family of 5. Linda and Andy are very nice. The place was clean. I loved the way it was decorated very rustic. We enjoyed reading the little notes left by previous guests. We were about an hour from the Grand Canyon and only 15 min from Bearizona. We made a fire at night in the fire pit and roasted marshmallows. I am already telling everyone I know to check this place out. My husband and I cant wait to take a trip there without the kids. I can't say enough how awesome this place was!

Owner response:Mucho gracias for the great review, I can understand very little of it but "excelente gusto en decoracion" and "perfecto" are words most anyone can figure out. Also thank you for signing our guest book in Spanish. We enjoyed meeting you. Linda

Great Location

Guest: Julkos (San Antonio Heights, CA, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/28/10 Review Submitted: 06/08/10

The cabin is situated between Williams and Flagstaff and is a great location for a family getaway. All over the convienences are there to make your comfortable, yet the substitution of a firepit and grill for an oven make it a "camping" experience. The cabin was clean, quiet, and the beds were comfortable. Our children (11,2,1) all loved the cabin and the horse out back. We were far enough from the railway and freeway to only hear the breeze through the trees at night. For families wanting to do more than just visit the Canyon, travel East to Bellmont and hike the Lava Tube Cave (it's about a half day hike) and visit the Sunset Crater National Park just north of Flagstaff to climb through ruins and see some of the best scenery around!

Owner response:Thank you so much for the input and great review. I think we are in an ideal spot but it's good to hear that from our guests. I think Chief is our best host, he sure does love the carrots. Glad you had so much fun & saw so much of Arizona in just a week. All the best to you, Linda

Great launching pad, great hosts

So the cabin is quaint and interesting....and the hosts couldn't be better. Andy is very friendly, great guy, and they have a really nice older horse named Chief (our daughter fell in love with him and Andy was very gracious in letting her play with him) and a sweet and playful Rottweiler named Tank. Considering that they take animals, I think this is one of the better values out there. The location is also very convenient. That being said, the one reason that the cabin didn't get five stars is partly based on my expectation: from the photos and description, I was envisioning a cabin set far back into the woods (what we were really looking for). The one limiting factor in this cute cabin is that it is perhaps several hundred feet from Route 66 and right across the street from a school and bordered by a double wide. If you don't mind these distractions, they by all means you'll find the place interesting, rustic, cute, and a really great value. And it's hard to put a valuation on how friendly and accommodating Andy is.

What a wonderful place to stay!

Date of Stay: 08/14/09 Review Submitted: 09/06/09

Hi Linda! My family of 6 stayed at Linda and Andy's cabin in August, 2009. We had a great experience. If the opportunity ever arises again to come back through, we'll definitely stay. The cabin is ideally located between the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Flagstaff. It is easy to find and easy off/on the highway. However, you still have the rural feeling. We spent 3 nights here. It's about 45 minutes to Sedona and about an hour to the Grand Canyon (well, if the President is visiting the same day you are, hmmm, add about 2 hours to the trip:)). If you are planning to visit multiple cities, sites, in different directions, this is a great location. You can feel settled; you don't have to try and find a different motel or other lodging every night.... Also, there is something to be said to private bedrooms - If one or more want to stay up and watch tv, etc, no problem, just shut your door... Linda and Andy, thanks again for your hospitality...
