Wonderful place to stay with wonderful hosts - owner and Kimberly the cat!

Guest: Noelle (Denver, CO)
Date of Stay: 10/16/11 Review Submitted: 10/30/11

My mother and I took a long-awaited trip together and elected the hosted stay with Marianne and Kimberly. Marianne is wonderful! So inviting and open, the perfect balance of giving us privacy as well as open to great conversation, and Kimberly is a sweetheart of a cat! We couldn't have asked for a better setup - an apartment in a wonderful part of town, right across from great delis and a couple of eateries, just two short blocks to the subway, and the building is secure and quiet. We would recommend this to any couple or pair looking for an affordable stay in Manhattan, while getting a taste of the local way of life. We loved every minute and hope to return someday. Thank you, Marianne and Kimberly! You made our Manhattan holiday perfect!

Christmas time in the City

Guest: Lauren (Tampa Bay, FL)
Date of Stay: 12/10/10 Review Submitted: 12/24/10

Marianne is awesome and very easy to do business with. The apartment was very quiet, very clean and for the most part uncluttered, despite the fact that she lives in it. Apt. could use a microwave but everything else was there - fully loaded with a ton of towels, sheets and all other amenities. She offered us to help ourselves to the refrigerator and pantry. Due to time constraints we didn't stick around the UES neighborhood too much but we did go to Nick's italian food restaurant and a bagel shop, both within a few blocks of the apt. The 4, 5 & 6 trains are a very quick few blocks away, with street vendors, health food restaurant and grocery store in between the apt. and subway. I wasn't sure if the UES would be the most convenient area to stay as we went to the Gotham Comedy Club and Spin ping pong club in Chelsea Friday night (a blast!), Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Brooklyn Saturday (you MUST go!), a Broadway show Saturday night and the New Meadowlands Stadium (Go Jets!) Sunday, however, it was VERY easy to get to all these locations and events with the subway only a few blocks away. The resident cat, Kimberly, is awesome, we loved her and spoiled her, more than Marianne would have preferred, I'm sure. :) Perfect place to stay for 2 or 3 people, max. Thank you Marianne, we'll be back!!! The next trip we'll make time to enjoy the nice area where your apt. is.

Owner response:Thank you Lauren! It was great to meet you guys and I look forward to seeing you again :)

A very clean, comfortable, well-furnished NYC apt.

Guest: Kathryn (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/10/10 Review Submitted: 09/22/10

My husband and I stayed here for five nights in mid-September, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (I had stayed in Marianne's earlier apt. a couple of years ago and have an earlier review posted.) We have stayed in many VRBO and similar rentals in the US & abroad: we always prefer staying in places that the owners actually live in or use, because in our experience they are better maintained and furnished, as well as more interesting, than sterile "tourist apts." That is true of this one, which we found very comfortable and relatively spacious. Marianne responded quickly by phone or email to our questions, and provided helpful info about the building & neighborhood. If you want to be on the Upper East Side, this apt. is well-located for both amenities and transportation, in walking distance to both Central Park and the lovely East River park, and museums. There are restaurants and shopping nearby on 3rd and 2nd, and lots of delivery/eat-in possibilities. Kimberly the cat is the sweetest, most mild-mannered cat imaginable: very non-intrusive, but very affectionate if you pay attention to her, as I do. The only possible drawback of the apt. for some couples is that if you need a queen or king bed to sleep well, you might end up using both beds, as we did. But both are quite comfortable. Given the kind of NYC hotel room you can get for the same price (esp. when you factor in the hotel tax), this apt. is an excellent deal. We will try to return here the next time we are in NYC!

Owner response:Thank you Kathryn! Perhaps I will see you again in this new year :)

Dear Marianne, We had a wonderful time in NYC. Your apartment was a convenient location for us. We even figured out how to use the 86th Street station to take advantage of the express trains. People were very nice and helpful throughout the City. You can use us as a reference if you wish. Later, Mark Young

Hi Marianne, It was great staying there. I really enjoyed it, and found it very comfortable and convenient. I will definitely try to stay there again when I return! And when I get home, I'll do that comment on the vrbo site. I have to say, I was very sad to say good bye to Kimberly yesterday afternoon. We had started to bond! Cheers, Kathryn Owner: Kathryn never posted her own comment but said this to me in an email message. Kimberly is our cat!

We arrived home safely around 4:30 PM yesterday. I didn't have time to say how much we enjoyed your apartment! Great location; just the right size and fun restaurants nearby. We are exhausted from all of the events we accomplished in a week. Many thanks, Patti

Date of Stay: 11/13/08 Review Submitted: 11/13/08

We stayed here in June of 2008 w/ my 2yo kid (got charged xtra). Really liked where it is located: near the subway, park, and in a cool neighborhood if you walk east. The owner was very accomodating with wi-fi, air conditioning, laundry card. It was a little weird to be staying in a person's house where they live full time -- that was a little disturbing. Personal items were around; she did not remove them. Her second bedroom is her teenage son's -- and looks as such. They don't use mattress covers, just sheets, so it grossed me out a little. Pretty spacious for a NYC apt. The view from the balcony is OK, but the view from the rooftop trumps the balcony. Watch out for her elderly cat -- doesn't like kids (mine has a scar to prove it). Overall, pretty good for what we needed it for (really just sleeping), but I would probably stay in a different place next time.

Owner response:Rates are based on double occupancy plus $80. per additional person. Any damages are deducted from the security deposit. The apartment is my home and I think is priced accordingly. Our cat is actually quite personable though she is not a playmate for small children. I encourage all guests to promptly communicate any problems and they will be addressed as necessary.

My wife and I have just stayed here for 1 week and had a wonderful time. We loved the purpose built apartment, bright, spacious and even better than described. The location is great, only a few blocks from the subway and just round the corner from buses into downtown Manhattan. it is also within easy walking distance to Central Park and the museums. The area feels very safe and is well served with abundant restaurants, bars & all types of shops. The owner is very helpful and pleasant. We shall certainly be staying there again
