Moonswept was named one of the Top 5 New Caribbean Villas of 2008 by Caribbean Way Canada Magazine. It's owned by New York musicians jazz pianist Garry Dial and Terre Roche (of the group The Roches). It is named after The Roches' CD "Moonswept". Each guest receives a complimentary copy of the CD with their welcome basket.
Moonswept is a picturesque retreat, high above the turquoise waters of the Caribbean with its scattering of islands, splendid in the morning sun and magical in the moonlight. The villa is a spacious getaway as far from the madding crowd as one could be, with the luxury of a villa and the serenity and natural beauty of an enchanted island.
A few years ago, we visited and fell in love with the Island of St John. We hiked through the wonderland of natural forest that is a state park and came upon the crest of Calabash Boom.
We stood atop the virgin peak and saw the shimmering sea, the infinite azure sky - and something in the friendly breeze whispered, This is the place ! Hard to believe that where our beautiful villa now stands was once the rocky crust of an ancient cliff.
In decor, we chose a stately pillared portico with a welcoming yellow facade. And inside, we made it ‘home’. We kept it simple and tasteful, choosing earth tones and island motifs of local color.
We designed the kitchen with its cypress and white rafters for elegance, but also for ease and efficiency. The great room, sunny with windowed walls, opens to the magnificent vista of sea and sky. We selected an ample Basque-style hardwood table for indoor dining. Balinese furnishings in the bedrooms lend an aura of island charm.
We saw to all the comforts of home - spacious bathrooms, laundry and kitchen appliances and, of course, a pool. From poolside, one can see the peak of Minna Hill.
Across from our villa is the entrance to the state park, featuring one of St John’s famous walking trails which leads to Minna Hill. And, for the hardy nature-lover, it’s only a stimulating five-hour walk through the tropical woods.
You have only to be there when the moon is full to know why we call our enchanting villa - Moonswept.
