Blowing Rock cabin description

Our vacation cabin is Paradise for fly fishermen, hikers, skiers, rock climbers, mountain bikers, rafters, kayakers, antique seekers, sportsmen and non-sportsmen as well.

Visit our lovely, cozy 2 story 2 bedroom 3 bath cottage nestled in the woods, surrounded by rhododendron and mountain laurel in a lush setting, but in a secure mountain community known as Hound Ears. You are high and dry in this well stocked and comfortable paradise. We have high speed cable modem access for your laptop, should you need to check in with the office, check email or visit websites.

A short distance from your vacation home is the world famous Watauga River where you can fish for Brown, Brook or Rainbow Trout. The area is filled with other rivers and streams to fish from or hike along.

There are outfitters available for fishing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, caving, hiking, and just about every other interesting sporting pursuit.

The cabin, with a wraparound deck, provides a wonderful wooded view and is within 15 minutes of Blowing Rock, a small “artsy” town filled with great restaurants and shopping. The city of Boone is also about a 15 minute drive, and will allow you to fill your grocery cart with fine foods and fill your cultural heart with good music and plays. For the family or people of other interests, there is hiking galore, skiing and snow-boarding in winter, golf, Family Billiards, Grandfather Mountain, historic general stores, antiquing, kayaking, horse back riding, gem mining for the kids, rock climbing, and world class spas.

After a day out, spend the evening soaking in the hot tub, listen to the sounds of nature on our deck, choose a book from our reading library, watch a movie from our DVD selection on the new flat screen TV... or just CHILL OUT.

Come visit us. You will be glad you did.

(This is a vacation home/short term rental ONLY. Please- no long term rental inquiries, however, seasonal stays will be considered). A small well behaved/vaccinated dog is welcome.

We were looking for a nice, relaxing place for our vacation and got so much more! What a pleasant surprise to find such a beautiful home in a fantastic location. Unusual to say the least! A round home in the mountains and woods of North Carolina. Conveniently located to so many quaint towns and things to do. From the Outlet Mall to Tweetsie Railroad to the Farmer's Market in Blowing Rock - something for everyone. But the most surprising part was the home iteself. All the comforts of your own home but so much more. The bedrooms were well done, the bathrooms were small but fine, and the hot tub - wow! My husband, who is a retired Executive Chef, also enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well stocked with all items he needed to make great dinners and even better - breakfast in bed!! Of course, there were also the things one cannot live without - cable and wi-fi! I highly recommend this wonderful home for anyone wanting to have a "real" North Carolina experience.

This was our second time at this quaint, warm and comfortable cabin surrounded by glorious foliage. It's starting to feel like our "Home away from Home! We love that it feels as though you are a million miles from anywhere, yet it is close to so many activities. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed hiking the property “on our own” ~ yet we could easily keep track of them from the awesome wraparound deck. Although we did embark on many adventures, our favorite times were spent on their deck just reading and enjoying the peacefulness. The kids on the other hand claim their favorite activity was the gem mining! The adults ended each evening in the hot tub reflecting on our wonderful vacation and enjoying the background music, brought to us by Mother Nature. Thanks for sharing your little piece of paradise and we’ll be back!

I have stayed at The Tree House several times, and each time it has been a wonderful experience. I always brought my little dog Lily with me - an 11-pound shi-tzu, and she always enjoyed it too. This property truly IS a tree house, with trees all around and visible from both levels and a stream/small pond at the back of the house below the hot tub area. The feeling of this property is simple cozy comfort and privacy in a lovely wooded area - and it does not pretend to be anything else. The structure's octagonal shape maximizes views of the trees and, depending on the season, what is visible beyond the trees. You typically enter through the upper level, which comprises a large living/dining area, a very functional and cheerful kitchen, a main bath and a good-sized master bedroom with private bath. the kitchen is small but decorated in a fun way and opens to the dining area so you can easily chat with others while cooking. The living/dining area is very comfortable and a nice place to come home to after a day of hiking or sight-seeing. There is a deck outside that reminds me of a ship's bow, with a wonderful glider where you can sit in quiet comfort listening to nature. Below that on the lower level is a hot tub which is nice in all seasons. Inside the lower level is a laundry, a second door leading outside, a large bedroom with lots of windows and a full bath. If you have two couples or multiple people in the house, there is a nice sense of privacy between up and down, which is separated by a little winding stairway. If you read the description of this home, you will get exactly what is advertised and more, and you won't be disappointed. What I have noticed over the years is that every time I visit this house there is something a little different; some improvements are always being made and it is obvious the owners care about it and use it themselves. The area this property is situated in - Hound Ears - is beautiful and perfectly situated between Blowing Rock and Boone. If you are a hiker, you will absolutely love it and there are many places to go for all levels of hikers. I have also gone zip-lining, which is a lot of fun. And both Boone and Blowing Rock have plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, and the usual amenities. But if you want to get away for a little while in quiet comfort, stock up the house and never leave Hound Ears, you can do that too. If I were going to that area again - and I will - I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Enjoy.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending and idyllic 5 days in this quaint, relaxing, secluded home in the mountains. The house was set in a beautiful location surrounded by pines with a small stream flowing by next to us. The evenings were quiet and peaceful. The house was decorated tastefully with a private hot tub to add to the ambiance. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I have stayed at this getaway several times, and each time we leave feeling refreshed and recharged. The sound of the stream and birds, the fabulous view from either the house or the deck, the numerous amenities on the property, and the variety and number of activities available in the area and within easy driving distance make this retreat an ideal base camp to satisfy your mood de jour, athletic ambition and/or varying dispositions when staying with friends. It's a beautiful, peaceful, comfortable perch in the woods that is simply conducive to soothing and healing.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at this wonderful, private cabin. The creek running by the cabin was mesmerizing. We took many walks through the area including a long one on the nearby Appalachian Trail. The treeless mountaintops gave you an extraordinary view of North Carolina. With many interesting towns nearby, we enjoyed great meals and some local shopping. I'd go back in a minute.

As we arrived we were disappointed with the overall condition. The railing around the decks were not safe for children or small dogs with large gaps that a child or animal could fall through. A makeshift gate was there to block one end of the deck but not the other. As we looked around more there was debris left around and under decks - just gave an impression of not being well kept. The view was completely blocked (couldn't see more than 150 ft in any direction) by foiliage at this time of year- it is truly a tree house. The outdoor lighting did not work on the upper deck which is how you get to the parking area. The grill would not light after repeated attempts (I have a similar grill and light it all the time) forcing us to use the broiler on the electric oven. There was not any outdoor table to have a meal on- just individual benches. The interior of cabin requires updating, we had noticed that the there were no pictures of the kitchen on the website and when we got in we found that the kitchen was small and needs updating. No dishwasher and the bathrooms in the main living area upstairs are very small. There is a metal circular staircase that is used to get from the upper to lower level. It may not be useable for all - particularly those with a handicap or joint issues. I could not get the stereo system to work but it may have been me (once again I have had similar systems and believe I know how to work them). We did use the hot tub and it worked fine. We did love the Hounds Ear property and the Grandfather mountain area in general. The ride to Blowing Rock was about 15-20 minutes on a very fun, winding mountain road. Sorry- recommend the area but not this property.

Owner response: We appreciate all comments, but if the guest had contacted us during the stay, we would have solved any problems. We have a very responsible property management company that is available 24/7. As to the accessibility issue, our 2 story cabin is not billed as being handicapped accessible. But elderly people and others with disabilities visit with the main living area being perfectly acceptable (with BR, bath, kitchen, din rm, livg rm and deck available from that level). Many people visit with small children and dogs. These guests have been happy that the cabin is well kept and in a great location. They have never complained about any problems with their safety. The exterior deck rail uprights are built so that small children can hopefully not squeeze through and fall. As for other maintenance issues mentioned, we will take care of them, as we always do. Maintenance is simply a fact of life and is needed at any private home or public facility. Our cabin is surrounded with trees, as indicated in the website and aerial view of the cabin. One would not expect long range views. We want our guests to be pleased with our cabin during their stay, and considering the comments we have received in our guest book at the cabin, it appears that the guests are more than satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin, the accessories, the facilities, and the responses to any questions or queries.

Exactly as pictured, we found this cabin perfectly set in the trees with great views and privacy. Spacious yet cozy, loved the interesting round design! Great amenities throughout, comfortable beds, everything was really clean and neat. We especially enjoyed the hot tub overlooking pond after hiking for the day. So close to Boone and Blowing Rock for good restaurants, loved the craft fairs and blue grass music. Spectacular views from hike on Rough Ridge just off nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, lots of waterfalls. Will gladly recommend to friends and we look forward to coming again in any season.
