Location: Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America
Accommodations: House, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1.25 Baths (Sleeps 2-4)
This spectacular corner house in Palermo was a former “Almacen” (general store) that has been converted into a fantastic three-level loft. With extra high ceilings and 3m high windows, exposed brick walls and the original 'bodega' (brick and wood) ceilings, this house is very unusual and full of character.
A beautiful and large roof terrace is the perfect place to relax. The decked area has two sun loungers, and low seating and lots of plants and flowers (including lemon trees, creeping roses, agapanthus, and jasmine), and the terrace has fresh herb plants, an Argentine style barbeque grill, sofa, and dining table for 4 people.
The owner is an interior designer, and almost everything in the house was custom-made by local artesans and designers. Over-sized mirrors, a 'floating' staircase, and a poem by Julio Cortazar inscribed on the wall, make this a unique place to stay in Buenos Aires.
The loft is located on the corner of Thames and Castillo, a leafy cobbled street - steps away from the restaurants and boutiques of Palermo Soho, but in the heart of a local, and extremely friendly barrio.
A block from 'Sarkis', one of the most popular restaurants in the city, a block from private bar '878', four blocks from 'La Cabrera' restaurant and two blocks from the old tango hall 'Villa Malcolm'.
It would be hard to find two more comfortable sofas in any hotel or rental property in Buenos Aires - one you can sink into and enjoy the open log fire, and the other (at a vast 1.4m deep, 2.2m wide) laze in and watch a DVD.
The kitchen is fully equipped with the highest standard of plate ware, silverware, kitchen knives, ceramic bowls, food processor, juicer, Italian and French style coffee pots etc. in addition to the usual standard kitchen equipment & utensils.
History: this property was originally a general store, then it became a local restaurant where tango singers would perform. Three years ago it was completely renovated and converted into a very unique modern house while retaining many original features.
The decoration reflects some of the building's history and setting using local woods, textiles, ceramics, and features such as original almacen weighing scales.
