Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2008
We live in Florida where its hot and flat. John and Huguette vacationed in several areas in the Smoky Mountains region and stayed in the Bryson City area several of those times. We really like the area a lot and enjoy how relaxing it can be. Our cabin in Bryson City is ideal because we have a terrific view of the valley and surrounding mountains. The moderate temperatures, mountainous landscape and changing seasons are a real treat for us Florida dwelling lowlanders! Bryson City is ideally located for doing all sorts of activities. The Smoky Mountain National Forest, Asheville, Cherokee, Gatlinburg, white water rafting, skiing can all be reached in less than an hour drive. We have many repeat renters who have become friends to us. We keep our rental clean, well-furnished and updated for your enjoyment.
Why the Owner Chose Bryson City
We love to enjoy picture perfect with our family and make many memories for all of us.It has been a unique experience sharing it with family and friends as they come up to visit. They are now learning to love to fish in the summer fo trout.Or just chase fireflies through the yard on warm summer evenings. The mantle over the fireplace is made from a piece of walnut cut from a tree in the forest that the cabin sits in.It is truly a piece unique beauty. When we first found this treasure , nestled back on the side of a hill in the mountains of North Carolina, we knew immediately that this was the one. This would become our mountain home. It is secluded and quiet, and a perfect restful and relaxing (not to mention romantic!) retreat.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
While staying at BEARFOOT HIDEAWAY we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranguility of being secluded on 6 acres. So many of our previous quest have written back & told us they had all these plans to sight see but just loved hanging out in the cabin together enjoying the uniquely designed. When we first took the plunge and bought our cabin, I thought that it would be mostly a Spring through Fall thing. When Winter came, siting on the porch swing and being able to see more of the wonderful wild life go by such as deer and wild turkeys and sometimes maybe bear or two,Or relax in front of a fire place, with a good book and enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains.
The Winter is the ultimate quiet. While it's true that you don't have the lush green of the Spring and Summer or the bright colors of November, the quiet is almost spiritual. Maybe because the numerous activities of the warmer months are missing or because the weather limits outdoor living, Winter is the most relaxing.
In addition it's the perfect time of year to crank up a nice fire in the fireplace and cozy up. Watching the fire and diving into a good book or listening to favorite music, it's easy to drift off to a lovely nap. Romantic moments are just as plentiful in front of a warm fire.

House Great, but still waiting on returned deposit from trip in October 2010

I have contacted the owners excessively via email, through VRBO and via phone, but am still awaiting a returned deposit from October 2010 trip (it is now March 2011). The house was as described and trip was very enjoyable, however lack of professionalism and responsiveness lead me to place this commentary as a warning to future renters. We left the house exactly as found and in perfect condition. I do not want to resort to negative commentary but feel at this point I have no choice.
Owner response:When dealing with the public opinions differ greatly as to the cabin condition..

We had a family vacation with five of us...all adults that spent three nights at the Bear Foot Hide_Away over a long weekend. It was a wonderful time. All of the descriptions and pictures do not do the cabin and the facilities justice. It was immaculately clean and very comfortable. It was very well furnished and stocked with all the necessary items like linens, dishes, etc. It was also very conveniently located to the recreation facilities. We had excellent communication with the owner prior to our trip and found him to be very easy to work with. All-in-all having such a comfortable place to stay made our vacation very enjoyable. We hope to stay there again soon.

I found the owners of the cabin to very unprofessional. Their paper work is scanned copies of an old document. They did not calculate totals for the deposit or the total amount. They asked me to do it. The communications they sent were confusing and used poor grammar. At the end, they rented the cabin to another customer before the 10 days I had to send my deposit were completed and did not contact me to see if my deposit was in the mail.
Owner response:We would like to respond to tihs E-mail Tracy calls to book our cabin. When we ask for a $200.00 deposit from her credit card she informs me that there is not enough money left on the card and could she send in the $200.00 deposit by mail I agree and she also sends an E-mail that she would send the deposit in 3 days. Two weeks go by no phone call,no E-mail,no check. We notify her that we can no longer hold the verbal phone reservation at that point she said that she would put check in the mail the next day and that she was sorry and had forgot to mail one. At this point we decline her offer. She then became very upset and wrote this negative E-mail that you see on our site. Sincerely John & Huguette Owners

What a wonderful choice we made when we rented your cabin, (or should I say beautiful home!)for our family vacation to ride the Polar Express. The cabin had everything we needed and was so beautiful and comfortable that we have highly recommended it to our friends. Not only did we enjoy our stay, but the homeowners were wonderful to rent from as well. Looking forward to renting again.
