Boys Trip

Guest: Ken (Michigan)
Date of Stay: 04/09/12 Review Submitted: 04/20/12

We were on a 'boys trip' with 3 adults and 5 pre-teens set out to enjoy Washington DC. The house was equally as impressive as in the pictures and each person had their own room. The kids enjoyed the air hockey, pool table and theatre in the basement while the adults lounged with some privacy upstairs. The house is on a quiet court and is relatively close to shopping, but far enough away be removed from the hustle and bustle. I would highly recommend this location for a large group. The property owner was very helpful with our trip planning, providing with information for the nearest Metro station and a folder of nearby restaurants.

Fabulous home

Guest: fourkidsmom (arkansas)
Date of Stay: 03/17/12 Review Submitted: 04/02/12

When our group arrived at the house and went in, the first thing that was said was "wow". We had 16 young adults and had plenty of room. The kitchen was amazing, well stocked and was so neat that we could all fit around the table and eat together. Our entire trip to DC was amazing but being able to come "home" at night made it so much more enjoyable. And we really did feel like we were coming home. We would definitely recommend this home to our friends which we already have done and the home was already booked. Thanks so much for everything being just as Mike and Lynn said.

Great for Families

Guest: Chris (Virginia Beach, VA)
Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/29/12

We had family traveling from the north and the south. This was the perfect house for us. It was well-stocked with everything we needed. The Safeway is 2 minutes away. It takes 15-20 minutes to get to the Mall in DC. Even with a full house of kids and adults we never felt cramped and the kids had an awesome space of their own.

A Happy Thanksgiving

Guest: Lisa (California)
Date of Stay: 11/22/11 Review Submitted: 12/08/11

This is a very nice house in a beautiful neighbor hood. The kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens of any "rental" property that we have ever stayed in. We were able to comfortably cook and serve a large Thanksgiving dinner. As well as the house worked for us, I think that the best part of our (first) VRBO experience was communication with the owners of this property. They were very friendly and super punctual. I would highly recommend this house especially if you have a large group that all wants to stay together.

The house was in wonderful shape. Everything was ready and in good working order. We especially enjoyed the comfortable beds and superb kitchen. The yard was well-cared for. The area was peaceful. The neighbors were nice and cheerful. Our experience with the owners was positive. We think that it was a great value. We recommend it to groups touring the region.

D.C. in July

Guest: Liz (Shelby Township, MI)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

The home was spacious with a beautiful kitchen and eating areas, and great private spaces. I'm not sure I'd call it a mansion, but it is spacious. It did accommodate 15 of us nicely. The distance to the Metro was 20 minutes and then another 20 to get to the mall in D.C. It does have a 3-car garage but only one garage door worked. The neighborhood was very nice and quiet. Unfortunately we were there for the record breaking heatwave -- and even being outdoors was exhausting! I knew it would be hot in July -- but not over 100 for days! What would make this location truly lovely, would be a deck or patio so people could enjoy the outdoors too (when weather permits) -- and maybe a built in gas grille!

Washington DC Vacation Homebase

Guest: TIm (Plymouth, MI)
Date of Stay: 06/26/11 Review Submitted: 07/09/11

We brought our kids and grandkids to experience DC as it was where we met and married. All 16 of us had a wonderful time. This house was great for giving everyone space and providing plenty to enjoy for all ages. It is convenient to the metro in Alexandria and a short drive to our favorite, Mount Vernon. It is great to have a place to stay which is more like home, providing comfortable surroundings and a place for everyone to share the joint and separate activities of the day. I heartily recommend this property.

3 generations enjoyed this house!

Guest: maryannelizabeth (massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 06/24/11

We had a most enjoyable vacation last week with the house being our relaxing retreat after long days of walking, sightseeing and dining. We also enjoyed our Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup in your living room on that awesome tv! Downstairs we loved our dvd s playing on the huge screen and kicking back on the recliners. The children loved the theatre, also, as well as the game tables. Our youngest ,12, wants to lobby the olympic committee to make air hockey an olympic sport! Guess who beat everyone last week?! We were very happy to be greeted by a family of deer our first day and loved the firefly show every night! Dawn and dusk are the best times to view the deer. We had a large group and managed to have individual spaces when needed as well as together time in the common area, especially the awesome kitchen/long table area! Good space! The only drawback was that we had to leave!

Spacious and Comfortable Home

Guest: Bags (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 04/13/11 Review Submitted: 04/24/11

Our group of 7 adults enjoyed our stay in this large, comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood. We spent most of our time sightseeing in DC so only used the kitchen for breakfasts. The TV/cable worked and the WiFi was easy to access. A Safeway was nearby for groceries and we were about a 10 minute drive from a Metro train station which we used daily to get into the District (add another 15 minutes on the train). We liked being close to the National Harbor development and recommmend the Rosa Mexicana restaurant there. We would stay in thhis home again if we had a large group traveling to DC.

Family reunion to visit DC

Guest: Debbie (Rochester, NY)
Date of Stay: 03/19/11 Review Submitted: 04/04/11

Our family of 11 included grandparents, their children and spouses and five grandchildren, aged 7 - 12. This home was a comfortable base to explore DC, but one needs to allow time to get into the city whether by metro, bus or car. I believe you trade the comfort and security of the home for easy access to the city. We all loved the house. Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen was well-equipped, and the kitchen table was a great place to dine and play games. The children were delighted with the activities in the basement and also the presence of the creek in the backyard. They managed to build two bridges across the stream. We all have many nice memories of our time together.

Spring Break to DC

Guest: jc (Dallas, Texas)
Date of Stay: 03/12/11 Review Submitted: 03/24/11

Our family of 10 enjoyed our trip to DC. The grandkids loved the game room down stairs, the kitchen was well equipped for cooking and spacious enough to enjoy family meals. The place is 30 minutes from Union Station after 9AM and about 45 minutes back in the late afternoon. The owners were very easy to deal with and the facility had what was advertised. Safeway was 5 minutes away, recommend the family pizza place in the shopping center, when they advertise a large, it was much more than a large and great! It made for a great "Home" base...

Nice DC vacation

Guest: Kathy (Nashville, TN)
Date of Stay: 12/17/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

My family stayed there for 5 days while visiting the DC area. It was so nice to have a home to come back to after a day of sightseeing, and this home was beautiful and spacious. We took advantage of the movie area, pool and foosball tables, and large kitchen. The beds were very comfortable too. During our stay, the downstairs heat stopped working and a repairman was at the house later that morning. The heat was fixed before noon, and we appreciated the speedy service. The house was clean, comfortable, and peaceful. The location was nice too ... only a few minutes from National Harbor and 20 - 30 to DC. The only thing that surprised us was the "multi-million dollar neighborhood." I'm not sure what the home values are in DC, but the neighborhood had decent homes (clean and quiet too) but they didn't look anywhere near multi-million, so that part of the description was a little deceptive but the rest of the house and property matched it's description perfectly. We would recommend this house and would love to stay there again sometime.

Business Trip to DC

Guest: B (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 11/29/10 Review Submitted: 12/16/10

I recently stayed in this home during a business trip to DC with several co-workers. The house was amazing, location fantastic, and rates average out to be much cheaper than any nearby hotels when staying with more than one person. The owners were extremely helpful and easy to work with. I have stayed in rental homes throughout the US, and this one has blown them all away.

Great week!

Guest: Thanksgiving in DC (Stroudsburg, PA)
Date of Stay: 11/20/10 Review Submitted: 12/03/10

I am bad about submitting reviews but I had to send this one in. The house was great, just as we expected and the owners were more than helpful before and during our stay. We had our family (normally scattered all over the east coast) come together for Thanksgiving week and we had so much fun. We visited DC, found a nearby beautuful old military fort (which the big and small boys loved) and even making a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in this kitchen was easy. Thanks Mike and Lynn for everything!

This was a wonderful setting for our large family to get together, with plenty of space for young children to play. Very conveniently located. Easy trip into DC, down the road from the National Harbor. Oxon Hill Farm was ideal for the little kids. This home is absolutely true to the photos and description provided and we highly recommend it. Thanks again Mike and Lynn for making our celebration so special.

We planned a trip for our parents to visit DC for their first time and were looking for an easy way to stay together and be able to share meals, etc. and this house was the perfect solution. It had many bedroom choices (including one on the first floor for an older parent who doesn't do stairs ) and a terrific kitchen area. We rented a van and were able to commute to DC each day without a hitch. There is also a local bus we used which was really easy.

We stayed in the home for my birthday, and it was amazing. We were concerned with the validity this Vacation Homes by owner concept and we were very happy to see that we got what we paid for and more. The neighborhood was safe and beautiful. There were deers outside our back yard. The breakfast table and the kitchen was our favorite area. When my family walked in they started screaming with delight. The rooms were spectacular, everything was clean, and we had easy access to the laundry room in order to clean linens, clothing, and other articles. We were a party of 15 and did not feel cluttered. Everyone enjoyed the home. It was clean, it was well decorated and it was awesome. We enjoyed out stay and would do it again if the owners would have us. The deposit was also returned in full within 48 hours after we left. I would recommend this home.

I recently stayed at this home with a family gathering. It exceeded our expectations in every way! The decor in every room of the house was top notch, elegant and yet comfortable. So many gathering spaces for quiet conversations in this huge home. Everything was clean and in good working order, and the bed linens were high quality as were the towels. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the view behind the house of the trees and stream was lovely. None of us had any complaints - it was truly a marvelous place to stay.

My siblings and I are scattered across the country. So, once a year we get together at a different location and always rent a home so we can be together. Well, this year we chose this gorgeous home, and it's perhaps the best experience we've ever had. The location is excellent (close enough to DC for convenience, but in a quiet, beautiful spot), and the "feel" is so comfortable. Plenty of room to spread out, and everything first class. I highly recommend that you book this for your next stay in the Washington area. You'll love it!

Annually, my family from around the country meets for a week to spend time together. This year we decided to go to DC. We have stayed in large beautiful homes. This home has a large modern kitchen with all of the necessary appliances along with seating for a clan. The bedrooms are spacious with flat screen tvs and restrooms nearby. The formal entertaining areas are professionally decorated, warm and inviting. The wooded neighborhood is safe and located in a professional community. Homeowners, Mike and Lynn are most accommodating, responsive and gracious. Should our family ever plan a family reunion in DC, we definitely would like this home to be our first choice!

July 4th vacation stay

Guest: Rick (Long Beach)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

We were blown away with the layout of the house; it was very clean and our stay was very pleasant. We arrived in Washington DC on what was maybe the hottest week of the year, it seemed. And so after sightseeing for a whole day and getting a good night's sleep, it was very nice to just lounge around in a cool house. We ended not getting out of the house until 10 or 11 of the next day. It was very relaxing. In the jack and jill bathroom, there was a leak from the bathtub the first night that we arrived, and so we did not use that tub for the rest of the week; you might want to take a look at it; water leaked from around the tub to the bottom floor in the foyer.

Owner response:Thank you for staying at our estate home. We pride ourselves on being available to our guests. We are also happy to say that we are very responsive, rather it be via email or phone. Unfortunately, we were not made aware of this issue. As it turned out, it was no issue at all. The chalking around the tub surround and tub spout needed replacing. It took no more than a minute to apply a bead of caulking. Luckily, this did not affect the functionality of the home. We ask that all our guests feel free to contact us should an issue arises. Thanks!

Guest: Karen Bowman (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 06/26/10

Our extended family of 13, ranging in ages from 7 to 82, stayed in this house for a week, using it as our launching pad for and retreat from a very active tourist warrior week in DC. Everyone loved the house (you should have heard the 7 year old describing the marble floors to her dad, very cute!) and the kids spent evenings playing pool and foosball. We had plenty of space to spread out from each other, but the huge table by the kitchen accomodated all of us for our evening meals. The kitchen is great for cooking, love the commercial gas range with 6 burners.

A great way for families to Visit DC.....

Guest: Phoenician (Phoenix, Arizona)
Date of Stay: 05/24/10 Review Submitted: 06/04/10

This home is ideal for multiple family travel and families with multiple interests...The place keeps it's promise about lot's of excellent sleeping accomodations. All rooms are pretty equal, most of them have flat screen televisions avoiding bickering between the kids...Very nice neighborhood felt very safe, slept with the windows open and listened to the rain, it was very nice. Grocer store and eateries right in the neighborhood. Huge kitchen with a table that seats 20+, perfect for our gang. The basement includes a home theater with a Blockbuster store a little over a mile away providing evening entertainment for the kids. The kids played Foosball, billiards, and air hockey which kept them busy until we were all ready to leave for the day, what a perk. It also gave the kids space where they could be semi-private and make a little noise without disturbing the rest of the house. One of the biggest surprises we did not expect was fishing by walking out to the backyard. We pulled several 1-3 pound fish out on a day off and this turned out to be the highlight of the trip for the boys in our group. We parked at King Station and took the rail into the city and saw all the sights without worrying about parking. The house is within a couple miles of National Harbor which we enjoyed very much. This house is modern and well furnished including a well equipped kitchen. The property owners answer every call without us needing to leave a message which was greatly appreciated. I would definately go back and recommend this to other families...we really lucked out. They provided Wifi which allowed me to keep up with work as needed. Triple car garage if you wish to keep your vehicle garaged. The house is in a cultasac which is safer for kids to play outside which ours did alot. Very quiet and friendly neighbors.

All the cousins were delighted with this beautiful home. We are female first cousins, all over 60 years old, who for the past few years have taken a trip together to different cities. This year, twelve of us stayed at this lovely house and had plenty of room. We especially loved the large kitchen with the big table where we could enjoy each other over breakfasts and evening meals. We were able to enjoy the zoo, the Capitol, the White House, Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery, some of the Smithsonian Museums and a tour of the major monuments and memorials which included a boat tour on the Potomac. Everyone seem to agree this was one of our best trips.

The pictures absolutely tell the story. Mike and Lynn were a "dream" to deal with and VERY helpful with local recommendations. Huntington Station was about a 20 minute ride...but it was an easy in and out each day to DC. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area...you won't be disappointed!

If you want a great place to stay during your visit to Washington D.C. look no further. This house slept ten of us very comfortably. We are a group that loves to cook and the large kitchen and dining area pleased us. We were also suprised that we were able to use the grill as most places we have stayed did not allow that. At night we had a great time in the downstairs bar area and enjoyed playing all the games available. Traveling to DC was not bad at all and anything we needed was right down the road at the local grocery. Again, if you want a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy the company of friends and family. This is your place to do it. It was truly a home away from home. A very large and comfortable home away from home at that.

Beautiful large home! Three of us stayed here while attending a conference at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort. We felt very spoiled while there and enjoyed the amenities and comfort it provided. Very convenient and about a 15 min. drive to the resort. The next door neighbor recommended "Charlie's", a local restaurant, for dinner which we went to twice while there. Delicious food and the owner and his wife were delightful and made us feel like we had already made new friends in the D.C. area.

As a party of 8 couples on a 4 day outing to DC, the home was a great place to be without stumbling over one another. There were enough common areas that gave us the opportunity tovisit in seperate groups. A car is a necessity, but it was quite simple to drive into downtown DC in a half hour, so it was quite convenient. A beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood.

Our very large family stayed over the Labor Day Weekend (2009) and had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home!! Mike and Lynn were very accomodating in providing all of the little things we requested to enable us to have a special time in the DC area. I don't think you could have a better VRBO experience!

My family stayed in this beautiful home for our annual family vacation and we were thrilled. In fact, we only went into DC one day. We ended up staying around the house and just enjoyed it and each other's company. The house, or mansion as my granddaughter preferred to call it, looked just like the pictures! Truly a wonderful home, with lots to do. Mike and Lynn made the entire rental process easy, too. Thank you so much! The Watenza Family

Where to start? Mike & Lynn were such gracious hosts. Our entire group (3 adults, 7 middle school aged children) had a blast! The hardest part was getting the kids to leave the house to visit the sites in DC! I often rent from VRBO and I am used to bringing disposable products, spices, linens, etc to ensure a comfortable stay -- Mike & Lynn provided it all! If you're looking for a luxurious, comfortable, and FUN home where you can spend lots of quality time with family, feel safe, yet be convenient to all area attractions, this is it!!! Thanks for making our trip so special!

Our family had a great time in this house. There is TONS of space for everyone to spread out or gather and hang out. We've stayed in many vacation rentals in various locations. This was hands down our best vacation ever!

This house was lovely and plenty big enough for our large group. The house has all the amenities (and more) that we could have hoped for. It's a short car ride to the Metro and the National Harbor area, great spot for sightseeing or just hanging with the family. Thanks Mike and Lynn.

This beautiful residence was ideal for our familily of 10 (6 Adults/4 Children)It had all of the necessities and amenities anyone could wish for from the sleeping, eating and entertainment facilities. Although we spent the days in DC seeing the sights, we relaxed in the calm of this beautiful home every evening. Kudos to Mike and Lynn for enhancing a wonderful family vacation week!!

Mike and Lynn's place exceeded our hopes and expectations. Quiet, yet a short hop to the action. The home is peaceful, winsome, well apportioned, and offers plenty of diversions to relax after busy Capitol days. Even our tribe of 9 had extra space. Thanks so much.

Just returned from a visit to the DC area and stayed in this beautiful home. Thanks to Mike and Lynn for providing us with such a great place to stay. We took a family vacation, 12 of us total and there was plenty of room for all us. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend it to anyone!!

The house was large and comfortable. The master bath had the best shower in the world. The home theatre in the basement was a pleasant and affordable way to relax in the evening. Very convenient to the Gaylord Convention center in National Harbor.

Awesome "There was 15 of us that joined together from around the world for a convention at the Gaylord , the house was very close to it and no traffic which was great. We enjoyed great dinners at the home plenty of room for everyone , most of us gathered around the kitchen island and chatted seemed to be the core gathering place of the house. We didn't spend many nights out because we really loved being at the house watching movies together on the theatre or playing a game of pool. Or just playing card games on the big table.Watching the dear go by as we had a morning coffee was a treat. The house is beautiful all around and no one wanted to leave.A must stay if you are going to washington. If you are here do not miss going to the Bobby Mcgee Piano bar in front of the Gaylord convention centre and also on the 18th floor of the convention centre is a great dance club that we didn't know about until the 3rd day in.Definatly coming back to this house on our next convention, close to shopping , restauarants and only a short drive into washington to see the sites. Thanks Mike and Lynn for a great experience."
