The Dunes is a modern beach house built on a peninsula that stretches along the north shore of PEI between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Darnley Basin. The beach house is perfect for couples or families and is ideal for four to six people. The 900 square foot home features a knotty pine interior with open vaulted ceilings in the living room, dining room and kitchen. The open living area looks out over a large deck to Darnley Basin through two sliding patio doors. It boasts a modern well-equipped kitchen with a ceramic cooktop stove, side by side refrigerator (ice and water), built-in dishwasher, and microwave oven.
Shopping & Services: A convenience store is a half km away at Twin Shores campground. It has a dairy bar, take-out restaurant and coffee shop. The best place for groceries is the Save Easy in Kensington. It’s open on Sundays. Kent and Castle are the two main hardware stores in Kensington. There are two service stations in Kensington along with a Scotiabank, Credit Union, Car Wash, a Video Store, Bakery, Gift Shops, Government Liquor Store and the Island Stone Pub.
Dining Out: Restaurants and tourist attractions can be found in several of the towns along the north shore. Carr’s Oyster Bar in Stanley Bridge is a great waterfront restaurant/pub. Some of the finest dining on the island can be found at The Dalvay near Stanhope and The Olde Mill Restaurant in New Glasgow. When leaving Lower Darnley Road, turn left onto Highway 20 and follow the scenic route to French River, Seaview, Stanley Bridge and New London. It is a beautiful drive along the gulf coast. Back towards Kensington is the Ship to Shore restaurant with its fresh seafood market - a real favorite with locals and guests. Fine dining is found five minutes north of Kensington, in Margate at The Shipwright's Cafe. The Stone Island Pub in Kensington is a must as is the Frosty Treat dairy bar.

This cottage was fully stocked with everything you require (even a bread maker and eyeglasses wipes!) and it is beautifully decorated. Eugene is extremely responsive and provided great customer service. It is about a 10 minute drive from the closest town with amenities (Kensington). It is a 2 minute drive to a white sand beach- you could walk but I wouldn't recommend this with young kids (we have a 3 and a 6 year old). Favourite activities- Avonlea village, the "bottle houses" at Cap-Egmont and the Evangeline trail, renting bikes at Brackley-Dalway national park. I have no hesitation in recommending this property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just returned from an amazing stay at The Dunes. We were thoroughly impressed with the cottage and found it had absolutely everything we needed we needed. The Dukes were very helpful in providing a lot of information about the local area. The cottage is beautiful and super clean. Our kids enjoyed running around in the vast open spaces in front of the cottage and there are 2 beautiful beaches within walking distance of the cottage. It is also in a great location and within 30 minutes of local attractions in Cavendish and 20 minutes from Summerside. We highly recommend this cottage!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

What a relaxing place this is, great view from the deck, fully equipped kitchen, everything you would need. The cottage is comfortably decorated and very clean. We enjoyed the peacefulness of this place and long walks along the beach. The owner gave us a lot of infomation and answered all our questions promptly. The Dukes did a great job of making us feel welcome. We would highly recommend this lovely cottage.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities.

We stayed for 2 wks @ the beginning of August and we lucked out with the place we picked and the excellent weather. It had everything you could ask for from decore (lovely pine wood throughout, Beautifully decorated, family feel, cottage/beach feel put with country class), amenties (toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, all appliances, towels but good ones etc...) It was clean and well maintained. It felt like home! The other great thing was the deck overlooking the Basin was just perfect meaning the outoor furniture was nice and comfortable and the deck had a perfect view with no obstructions. Many beautiful nites so we had great use of the fire pit/fireplace outdoors. Your not right on the beach but darn close with the camp ground right next door which many mornings I would walk through to the beach and it only took 10 minutes and you can get a nice walk along the beach if you can not walk around the Basin. Lots to see and do it all depends on the weather and the 2wks we were there it manybe rained 1 day! Excellent and great customer service. We would recommend this cottage to anyone because it is just worth the money but don;t pick our 2 wks :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

what an idyllic site! we loved the location of being sandwiched between 2 shores--the constant light seabreeze was like something from a novel. the nearby beaches were glorious--great walking, great family time and frolicking. our dog had her best vacation ever! we discovered a hidden dune in walking distance--great to jump and slide and have an evening BBQ. our whole family enjoyed themselves. and the inside of the cottage was truly exquisite--immaculate and new and elegantly appointed. we had everything we needed right there. one of our best family vacations ever. we will certainly return to PEI. thanks!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay at the Dunes was more than what we expected. From the moment we set foot into the cottage we knew we were going to have a special holiday!. The pictures on the web site are beautiful but do not do the cottage justice! Beautifully decorated, very clean, new appliances, every thing from wine glasses, pretty dishes and every small appliance and gadgets you can think of. Closets full of brand new kitchen towels, bath towels, kitchen towels and beautiful quilted bedding. Eugene and Michelle have not left a detail out. They also asked us to let them know if there was anything we could think of that was missing or would make our stay more enjoyable for future guests and not one of us could think of anything We felt that we were staying in a home not a rental property. The yard was beautiful and well kept. Close to all sorts of attractions, great restaurants, and beaches. A stone throw from Kensington, Stanley Bridge and a beautiful drive to Charlottetown. There was not one thing we did not like about "The Dunes" , and we would highly recommend this property and would guarantee you will not be disappointed and we look forward to returning to The Dunes in the near future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
