We stayed here in the first part of July. We love seeking out secluded, places like this and were not disappointed at all. There was PLENTY of room for my family of 4. We could have easily brought another family of 4 along and still had plenty of room if the smaller kids dont mind sleeping on the couch. We didnt even use 3 of the rooms in the house. There was that much space. It is old, but all the modern conveniences are there except a dishwasher. We saw deer in the yard every day and even had to rescue a flicker out of the the chimney (which I particularity enjoyed actually.) You can even hike into the National Forest right through a gate in the yard. The house is very close to everything you want to see and is very centrally located. Secluded as it is, you are only a few miles from the main highway running past Crazy Horse. I would recommend this place to just about anyone.

We were very fortunate to find this pet friendly property. The property is exactly as described. All the ammenties of being in our own home. The location is perfect for all the attractions in the area from Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Jewel Cave and Deadwood. If you want peace and quiet and some excellent hiking opportunities in the Black Hills National Forest this is the place for you. Wildflife abounds. We saw deer, turkeys, antelope, jack rabbits. Thanks Kay and Tricia for sharing your historical homestead with us.

My 3 daughter and I LOVED this home. The girls panned for gold (and found a very small ruby) in the creek in front of the house and ran free through the hills for hours each day. The area is beautiful and there was always a breeze blowing through the valley keeping the house much cooler ( and mosquito free) than all the Custer and Hot Springs attractions that we visited. The house has everything you would ever need and was very comfortable. We had booked three nights and ended up staying five. We would have stayed forever if we could have. It was so peaceful yet still close to everything you want to see.

Waking up to the deer in the yard every morning was nice, but for my family of six used to a big house with three bathrooms, the small house with one bathroom was very rustic. From the pictures, I thought the rooms would be bigger. I would recommend this for a smaller group that wanted rustic accomodations, not for a group that wanted all the comforts of home. The price was reasonable for the accomodations we had to endure. We will pay more for bigger next time.

Short summary of the german version: House great (full of history), location good as starting point for day trips, hosts very kind.

I spent a week at Kiddville in 2009 with two adult daughters and 5 grandchildren ages 4 to 13. It is a beautiful place to stay. We could wake to the sounds of cattle grazing, hike and explore the hills, drive a short distance to town, to Mr. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, etc. We spent a day driving to Bridal Veil Falls and over to Wyoming to see Devil's Hill. The setting is peaceful and natural. For anyone who enjoys nature and appreciates being away from the crowds, this is a perfect choice! Making plans to return next summer with my husband.

This property was very comfortable and Kay was gracious enough to show us to the house from Highway 16 and give us a tour and explain a little of the history of the house. The house is secluded and it took a while to get used to no cars driving buy and no sounds of the city. We enjoyed the solutude. The property is centrally located for day visits to Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, and Crazy Horse memorial entrance is located about 1 mile north on 16 from the road that leads to the property. We like to stay where we can do some cooking and the kitchen facilities and grill accomodated that need. We thoroghly enjoyed our experience at this property. We stayed in June 2009.

We stayed an extended time at Historic Charm. Comfortable beds! Clean! Cupboards / refrigerator stocked with basics!A quiet, secluded place. Brought our horses. Rode and hiked on the Forest Service trails. Our youths were fascinated by the rough hewn outbuildings and the unique, cozy boarding house- All 110 years old. A newly listed must stay!

I am part owner of this rental-May I submit several brief, positive comments which have been left (via notes / verbally) by our 2008 guests? I would, of course, not identify them by name.

I spent countless hours over the past years at this property, as it was my grandparents' homestead. There are beautiful and private hikes on US Forest Service right from the front yard. The history of the place is fantastic. It is listed in "Black Hills Ghost Towns" under "Kiddville" and "Zimbelman Deer Camp". There is information about the property posted throughout the historic buildings. The home has been remodeled and is comfortable, private, and quiet. I am sure you will enjoy your stay!
