Location: Brunswick, Portland & Casco Bay, Maine, USA (5 Minutes from the Town of Brunswick, 40 Minutes to Portland)
Accommodations: Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-6)
Imagine walking out to the dock and catching stripers, putting a kayak in or having a swim at mid-high tide... From inside, enjoy the water views and the morning sunrises. Or simply enjoy the views & deck above while sitting in the Adirondack chairs.
This little hidden salt-water's edge cottage, is on the bank of Maine's New Meadows River. It is perfect for a comfortable, relaxing waterfront get away and is one of the most beautiful areas you can be at for the money!
The cottage sleeps 4-6: two bedrooms with one queen bed and two comfortable twin beds and a premium-quality full-size futon in the scenic living room overlooking the river. Full bath (shower), modern kitchenette with all amenities, outside entertainment deck with a charcoal grill & picnic table looking out at the water.
There are stairs down to the dock and it is tidal waterfront. This area is known for the best kayaking and fishing around and within moments you can be on an island and paddle into the Winnegance Bay or at the famous basin.
Convenience is a key feature of the house. You can be at Thomas Point Beach within 3-4 minutes for a fun day on the beach. You’re less than 5 minutes to Cooks Corner in Brunswick, which has all the shopping you could want.
Five minutes south on Route 1 brings you to Brunswick with some unique shops, truly fine, yet casual, restaurants -- and the museums and sites to explore at Bowdoin College should a rainy day befall your stay.
Maine Summer Theatre is on Bowdoin campus. Freeport (think: LL Bean) is another ten minutes south and Portland is an easy 45 minutes from the house. Portland is a wonderful, small city with much to offer.
Harpswell itself is a great town to explore. Bowdoin has an ocean study center on Orr's Island with easy trails to the water. Over the unique crib stone bridge lies Bailey Island, which also has town beaches and a walking path to the Giant’s Steps, a rock formation high on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
Five minutes north of Cooks Corner on Route 1 brings you to Bath, a maritime center with shops, museums, and restaurants. Down East Maine extends before you along Route 1. Reid and Popham Beach State Parks are nearby, both fun to explore with good beaches.
Beyond Bath lie Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, and all of mid-coast Maine -- easy day trips. Three miles to the south is the quaint, working fishing village of Cundy's Harbor with its lobster pounds, small eateries, and open ocean.
