It is one of the 13 nature parks situated within Rome's city boundaries where sacred woods blend with cultivated fields, ancient farmhouses and medieval tower stand next to patrician residences, and precious olive trees grow side-by-side native cork oaks and pine trees.

Torretta de'Massimi Rome

Guest: Nick (Winchester, United Kingdom)
Date of Stay: 04/18/11 Review Submitted: 10/04/11

The tower was a fantastic place for a family holiday on the outskirts of Rome. We could use the very convenient bus to get directly to St. Peters in the city, or we could stay and play in the pool and explore the grounds, which were managed so as to promote wildlife. It was hard to know which to choose. The children are still talking about the holiday; highlights for them were picking oranges and grapefruit for breakfast, and feeding the donkeys. Highlights for me were the smell of orange blossom, and finding porcupine spines. Rome was pretty good too. The host was as helpful as possible, and nothing was too much trouble. The property was in good order, and the standard of furnishing and decor was tasteful but understated. I would highly recommend the tower, but you should be aware that as it is a tower the rooms are above each other so there are lots of steps to get to the main bedroom; it is near a big poor housing estate, so security has to be taken seriously; the bus journey into the centre takes quite a long time in busy traffic; the pool was cold in April. But if you want to spend the evening watching bats swooping around, and wake up to the sound of birdsong then half an hour later be in central Rome, it is a wonderful place.

Torretta

We stayed in the Torretta and it was perfect for our 4 night stay in Rome with two children. The bus into the city is easy to get and the tower provided the perfect base. The children swam in the pool.

My family and I stayed four nights at the torretta de'Massimi and completely enjoyed our stay. This is definitely a unique lodging experience that we wholeheartedly recommend. Our entire family had a terrific time. The tower is historic and interesting, while clean and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and animal lovers will enjoy seeing the chickens, dogs and donkeys (Skippy is an especially sweet little dog). The view from the top of the tower is wonderful and since we stayed over New Year's eve, it was a terrific place to view the fireworks that seemed to go on for over an hour in all directions - what a memory! There is a lovely fireplace in the family room that we all enjoyed sitting around in the evenings - very relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The furnishings and surroundings are exactly as presented in the pictures. The city center is not difficult to reach by bus (a short walk to the bus stop) and there are two grocery stores nearby (one within walking distance, one better accessed by bus). But it is the owner that makes the experience so charming, he is so welcoming and kind that you feel completely at home. We highly recommend the torretta de'Massimi!

Great place for holiday

We spent a week at the Torretta de Massima. The estate is just amazing – beautiful tower, garden and surroundings. It is quiet and there is also a great swimming pool. The week was very hot and it was wonderful to go swimming after a sweaty visit to Rome. The tower is clean and well kept. The estate is outside Rome center but it is really easy to go Rome using a bus. It takes only about 25 minutes to reach the center of Rome. The owner of the estate is a very charming person who helped us in every way he could. We really recommend this estate when visiting at Rome.

It was a pleasure to stay at this fantastic property. The ambience is amazing. This quiet refuge has all the necessary conveniences, and is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the big metropolis of Rome. The landlord is a very nice gentleman who is knowledgeable and very helpful to make your stay as enjoyable as can be. Thank you very much for a great stay!

Highly recommended holiday location!

My husband and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon, and it was the perfect romantic location. It's secluded, peaceful and private, but with amenities within walking distance. The Torretta is well kept, along with the gardens and pool, and the owner is extremely helpful and friendly. You have to get the bus to find good places to eat, but the public transport system is very efficient and easy to use, with the bus station about a ten minute walk from the Torretta. The local supermarket (also about 10 minutes away) had all we needed for food throughout the week for when we weren't in the city.

Four of us had a weeks stay at the tower. It is a fantastic alternative to staying in a small hotel room. The property is about 20 min by bus ( $ 1 euro ) to the center of rome. We had a car but found the bus more convenient and cheaper, also more fun. The tower is a historical building and has charm and character. Plenty of room for two couples or family. It has a kitchen two bedrooms two shower/toilets, and a fantastic pool right outside the front door. It was great to come back and have swim and a beer by the pool after walking Rome all day. There is a small town walking distance, for shopping etc.... There are three houses for rent on this property, we prevered the tower only because it was different and the pool was close but I would recommend any of them if you are staying with a group of people. Highly recommended if you want to see Rome and experience a little country style living at the same time.

I can not say enough how perfect this place is To start, our host was amazing and always took care of and accomadated our needs. He always made sure the alarm was not a problem for us and would turn it off if we came back late, he drove us to the airport. He also always provided good information for while we were in Rome. The site itself is spectacular and never ceased to amaze me. The tower had two nice bedrooms and a bathroom, a great Italian style kitchen and a living area. The pool never got old and was great when you got back from the city. However the best time to use it was really from about noon to one o'clock when the days heat was at a peak. There is also a large grassy are out front. One of the most intriging things here though was the history behind it as Torretta de' Massimi was built in the 1600's for the royal Massimi family. It is amazing to think when you sleeping at night, hmm I wonder who slept here in the seventeenth century? The pool is also historic, it is the old water resevoir for the multiple leveled gardens below it, as well as used for some daily life. That is also the reason the pool is so big, because previously it had been a small resevoir to hold water. To get to the city all you have to do is walk down the gravel drive way and out to the left to get on a bus to Rome. It is actually kind of a convience to not have to stay in the city too. I think this is a great palce to stay if you want to stay outside of Rome while still enjoying it too.

We planned a combination, family vacation and business trip to Rome. It was our first time and we wanted a place we could all lounge and eat together. We found Torretta de'Massimi on the internet and booked our trip hoping that the place would be as great as the pictures describe on the internet. When we got there, we found it was far more. The house was outstanding, beyond our dreams and Ottavio proved an exceptional host. He entertained us with his stories. helped to coordinate our transportation, shared his farm fresh vegetables and amazed us with his work ethic. We will stay there on our next family vacation to Rome and I would recommend it to anyone without reservations.

We stayed for eleven wonderful days at this fabulous estate. Our family of five adults and three children fell in love with this property, the Lancelotti family and dog "Skipper". We plan to go back to this beautiful home of five bedrooms and five baths with all kinds of extras, it was definitely our home away from home. It was easy to get into Rome or make any other side trip, but we always looked forward to returning to a beautiful home and pool with fresh food from the garden.
