My husband and I spent a week in Cabo Matapolo at Casa Tres Peces and enjoyed ourselves so much! The caretakers Christian and Lala were such gracious hosts, we could not have asked for more! I am so glad everything worked out. The owner, Darren, was great.... answering my million emails and ensuring all my concerns were addressed. Once we were there, Christian went out of his way to make sure we were experiencing all the area had to offer. He even had us feeding monkeys, which was amazing! We have great memories that will last a lifetime. The only regret we have is not learning how to surf. Also, don't expect to swim right out front of the property. The view is stunnung but it is quite rocky, which was great for exploring the tide pools the rocks made, but not for swimming. Not to worry, there is a nice swimming beach a short walk away and this did not bother us at all. We would wholeheartedly recommend this house to anyone wanting a unique, off the beaten path experience with a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation!

Owner response: Thank you for the great review Jodi! Regarding the rocky beach out front, it actually is suitable for swimming, but not if there is swell running, and large surf, which is probably what you experienced during your stay. There is a sandy "entrance" to the water on either side of the large rock (see the beach panorama shot in our property photos), which I use to enter the water to swim, surf, snorkel, or kayak. Some of the best snorkeling in Matapalo is directly in front of the property, and we provide complimentary snorkeling gear at the house. The rocky coastline creates a natural barrier to public beach access, and so the beach area out in front of the property is extremely peaceful and private, with a few hidden sandy alcoves to enjoy, sunbathe, and siesta. pura vida.

During our visit to Costa Rica we stayed at three different homes with Casa Tres Peces being our favourite by far. With an abundance of wildlife, spectacular sunrises and stunning coastline we did not want to leave. Or children were especially excited with the proximity to beaches, surfing and tree climbing. The on site groundskeepers, Christian and Lala took great care of us and everyone we met in the community was friendly and welcoming. Surfing with Pollo, Martina's Bar and Psycho Tours were all hits with our family. We plan on returning to Casa Tres Peces and highly recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere a little less travelled.

The moment you leave urban areas, Costa Rica feeds you non-stop beauty and peace with that element of surprise and variety that only nature can create. The people do the rest. “Ticos” are friendly and helpful hosts. A trip to Cabo Matapalo seemed like the ultimate CR experience. A cape surrounded by ocean, gulf, and pristine rainforest, as far south as you can go in the Osa peninsula was something I needed to see. When my girlfriend and I found Casa Tres Peces we thought we had the perfect destination. We drove from San Jose to see as much of CR as possible and have that freedom and proximity of experience that you get with a car. On our way, we were constantly immersed in breathtaking sceneries: mountains, rivers, creeks, trees, plants, flowers everywhere, wildlife and the magnificent coastline. As we approached Cabo Matapalo this precious environment turned more rugged, secluded, unspoiled, varied and intense. The property surpassed our expectations. Casa Tres Peces is a gem of an open tropical house, perfect for the climate and built with great taste. The garden is landscaped preserving the natural habitat and the blue waters of the gulf crash at your feet. The house is completely off the grid and provides all creature comforts via its ecologically sound infrastructure: 12v power with solar panels, spring water, propane fridge, etc. We fell in love with the place and felt immediately at home. Life in Cabo Matapalo is dreamlike precisely because of the reality and impact of its natural beauty. You are within walking distance from secluded beaches, surfing breaks, trails to heights overlooking the open Pacific, a waterfall, and even to a couple of beautiful places to have dinner at. Everywhere you go and whatever you do the immersion in nature never breaks and you are bound, at any time, to cross a troop of monkeys, hundreds of scarlet macaws or a number of other species. If you stay at the house, they come to you. Howler monkeys will wake you in the morning and get you going with the rhythm of the forest and the tides. Discuss all practical matters with the owner: Darren. I had a lot of questions and he was always available, thorough and his advice for the journey and stay was crucial. At the house, you have caretakers Cristian and Lala. Cristian is nothing short of amazing. He can solve any problem with a smile and in no time. Thank you Darren, Cristian and Lala for making this unforgettable time at Casa Tres Peces possible!

This home exceeded our expectations in every way. I had two concerns in renting an open air home in the jungle. First was the insects and second was the heat. Neither were a problem and we enjoyed every moment in this home just steps from the ocean. It is difficult to describe waking each morning at 5:30 with the howler monkeys and the view of the sunrise from our canopy bed overlooking the ocean. Each day was a different adventure for us, including: hiking, snorkeling, surfing, tide pooling, fishing, tree climbing and looking for animals. We also enjoyed time just lounging in the hammocks. The home is beautiful and comfortable. My family (kids 14 and 17) will never forget this experience and we will return.

We had a wonderful stay in Tres Peces.. in Cabo Matapalo.. It was like living in an enchanted garden. Prolific wildlife and birds..just loved it. I highly recommend this home for anyone venturing south to the Osa area..it is truly spectacular and we hope to visit again soon. Thanks to Christian for looking after us so well and taking us on "guided" tours.. the waterfall hike was great and the huge tree we lead him to..he had never seen it either..

We had a fabulous time, loved your home, and really enjoyed our stay. Jim, your manager was a wonderful host, and very friendly and accommodating. Your home is wonderful, and an experience all by itself. We absolutely love Costa Rica, and want to come back again. Thanks again for helping us with all the details to get there, etc. Hope all is well with you, and your family. Bonnie Lester

When I planned this vacation I wanted somewhere that had adventure, wildlife, swimming and yet was OK for my 6 and 8 year old sons. I am so glad I decided on this house and it's location. We had one of our best vacations ever! The beaches were desserted and beautiful. The wildlife was amazing and most all of it could be experienced from the backyard. It was safe and yet provided plenty of adventure. We swam and explored the rainforest everyday. We went fishing and hiking and climbed giant fig trees. The kids and I had a blast. Also Katie, the owner, was great in responding to all my questions and the caretaker was her father in law who was an invaluable source of information while we were there and great with the kids. We are already talking about going back. All my Best, Todd

We had a wonderful time. The house is amazing and the location is full of wildlife. Whether we were surfing, hiking, or just laying around in the hammock, I don't think we've ever enjoyed a vacation more than this. Casa Tres Peces seems to be one of the nicest rental homes in the area too. You can't go wrong here.

Cabo Matapalo is really an amazing little corner of the world. And Casa Tres Peces is the perfect place to get to know it from. It's a great combination of being in a remote jungle, with lots of animals and few people, but staying in a very nice home with all the comforts and conveniences. We loved the the fact that the house is not enclosed. You can spend your entire time lazing around the house and not feel guilty about not going "outside"! There are also plenty of activities, if you have the motivation to do something other than laze around (which we didn't). The most we could muster was walking 15 minutes to the beach to surf every day, and back. Also, Jim, who takes care of the house, is very friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference. We highly recommend Casa Tres Peces!

We had a wonderful time at your house. Jim (the manager) was so helpful! Greg had a great fishing day- caught a large rooster fish as well as our dinner- some great tasting snapper. We relaxed (something we don't get to do very often), read books, went for walks (did the famous jungle walk with Andy- what a hoot!- and very informational as well), saw LOTS of wildlife and took some incredible pictures. Your house is the ultimate for an off the grid location. You have a great sense of style and the kitchen is well stocked and comfortable to use. Your community is delightful. The market night at Martina's was very entertaining. The storm afterwards was impressive, too! I can't think of anything we would change except vacations just don't seem to last long enough to do everything you would like to do. Thanks for everything, Cindy and Greg Sinn

This had to be one of the most magical places we have ever been. From the coolest open-air house we have ever seen, the beautiful secluded cove beach, to the tons of monkeys, birds and other animals seen right from our deck and the great manager that really helped us out. We will never forget this vacation and plan on coming back soon!
