Location: Anchorage, Alaska, USA (South Anchorage, 20 min. to airport, 15 min. to midtown.)

Accommodations:  House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

WIDE, LOVELY VIEW TO QUIET THE HEART
An Alaskan-Homespun house with a 340 degree view of saltwater sailed by Captain Cook's ships, mountain ranges, islands, a bird sanctuary with a boardwalk, and the twinkling lights of Anchorage at night. This homeowner-crafted house is perched on the brim of a large ravine with a tumbling stream, literally on the edge of wilderness, and only 15 minutes from midtown Anchorage.

COTTAGE ATMOSPHERE
Seeing the antique furniture and fun old-world decor, one little girl described it happily as "old-fashioned nowadays!"

PRIVACY, SPACE, SUNSHINE
This rental is the upper view level of a private residence. From the front porch, a covered hallway-porch (overlooking the ravine) leads to the exterior entrance allowing private access to the Suite Rental. The Rental has four separate rooms: the Living Room, Kitchen/Dining Room, Master Bedroom, and a Bathroom. It is designed to give guests sound privacy, spatial privacy, space to spread out, and sunshine through large view windows.

WILDLIFE IN THE GARDEN
A mother moose gave birth to her calf in the front yard two years ago. This year a baby moose nursed and slept in the yard as guests watched from inside. Eagles circle over the ravine; porcupines munch elderberry leaves in the front yard; birds nest nearby and flit through the bushes.
The yard is in the process of being developed to take advantage of the unique Alaskan summers. Enjoy an evening fireside in the round outdoor woodstove or in the firepit, drink your coffee or snooze in the comfort of the yardswing.

CORPORATE TRAVELERS WELCOME
Desk, Wi-Fi Internet, Phone, Desk Supplies.
Invoice provided.
Daily housekeeping can be arranged. Also, conveniences such as drycleaning drop-off/pick-up services can be arranged.

GROCERIES
Many flights arrive in the post-midnight hours and that is usually not a good time to search for a grocery store in a new town for the next morning's breakfast. To save you that inconvenience, we are willing to provide basic breakfast groceries such as cereal, milk and fruit at cost. Please inquire when reserving the room. Coffee, creamer, tea, cocoa, and other survival (!)basics are already provided in the kitchen.

BEDS
In the summer - Rooms have black-out curtains to block the daylight - This is very important to have wherever you might stay as otherwise the midnight sun will keep you awake.

Another bedroom with a Queen bed is available on a different level and is connected to the upstairs rental suite via a private staircase. If rented in conjunction with the upper level suite, it is $70 extra.

COMPARISONS
This place provides more square footage than most hotel suites, separate rooms to spread out for some space from each other, and a view that is sweet to the eyes. Business people who used to go to the elegant Captain Cook Hotel now come here instead.

If you want granite and marble surfaces, this is not your place (unless you count 12" of granite counter under the coffee maker). If you want a place with a definite Alaskan-made flavor with a hint of cottage spice, this is your place.

ADVENTURES AND ASPECTS
Many adventuring aspects of Alaska are nearby:
a world class skiing resort, a national scenic byway, a zoo, an indoor water park, lake beaches, historic trails and an early-days gold mine, four star restaurants, museums, the Performing Arts Center, the Eagan Convention Center, the Sullivan Arena, and more.
All that Alaska is famous for is easily accessible and hundreds of miles of Alaskan wilderness can be seen from the windows.

Why the Owner Chose Anchorage

The view was face-softening breathtakingly lovely with the sense of wide open space, light, water and sky.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The view. The changing sky and sea. The colors adn textures of clouds and sea. Mountains that appear sharply white and distinct, or blended into the sky, or totally hidden.

The quiet road. A recent guest mentioned that in a new classy hotel in midtown Anchorage, the traffic noise was a constant. At Seaview Cottage, the traffic is minimal and the sound of the stream is gently heard but is not too noisy for comfort.

The comfort level. It's not such an elegant place that you're hesitant to kick back. You can see the fun ideas coming to fruition such as the two half-round windows in the door - and you can also see the not-so-great changes such as the shed roof after a 150 mph windstorm last October tore shingles off. The yard/garden needs a stone patio and re-landscaping but that won't likely happen till next year because winter is fast approaching.

    • We had a wonderful stay at the SeaView Cottage during one of our most memorable holidays ever. Lois, our hostess, was warm and informative -- finding the perfect balance of privacy and hospitality. The cottage is very comfortable with all the amenities one could need. We found it centrally located with easy access to Anchorage and to all points south -- of which we took full advantage of on our day treks. The views are spectacular and since our visit was during the summer, the long days allowed us to take full advantage of the sights. I really enjoyed how the house is nestled in the hills, but still in a nicely populated location. We plan to return & would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely long or short retreat.
