Chalet die Gletscher [“the glaciers”] is a three storey 6-8 bed luxury Swiss ski chalet with spectacular view from all rooms over the mountains and glaciers of the Lötschental [hidden] Valley – off the Rhone valley in the same Canton as Verbier and Zermatt.
The ski-in walk-out chalet is conveniently located in the 2000 meter high mountain village of Lauchernalp three minutes from the first ski lift, shops, bars, and restaurants of the 33 kilometer Lauchernalp Ski Field which because of its height of over 3100 meters has one of the best all season snow covers in the Valais region – and is ideal for all classes of skiers particularly intermediate and advanced skiers.
Built in 2008, Chalet die Gletscher is luxuriously finished and appointed and is a blend of traditional chalet design lines and twenty first century glazing. The chalet is surrounded by mountains which are still snow capped during summer and snowed over in winter
OTHER:
• Three storey building
• Ground, middle, and third Floors
• All South-Facing with morning and afternoon sun
Chalet situated 3 minutes walk from ski lift - or ski down to bombardier pickup just below chalet
Towels and linen included, and chalet cleaned before and after arrival and during stay as often as you like.
No chalet Food arrangements– meat, vegetables, deli food, beer, wine all groceries can be bought in village shops - 4 village restaurants open all day
Adjoining the kitchen is a ski room for inside skis, boots, poles, and other ski gear storage – and a cloakroom with toilet and laundry with separate washer and dryer.
All rooms have air-locked doors and windows and under floor central heating. The salon [living room] also has a wood fireplace.
OUTSIDE:
Summer Barbequing can be done from the middle floor balcony or the large ground floor terrace/lawn.
A small alpine garden with lawn surrounds the chalet – accessible from the large sliding doors onto the middle floor balcony and ground floor terrace.
During summer a car can be parked outside the chalet - during winter the 4 kilometer road from Wiler to Lauchernalp village is closed - but covered parking is available next to the Wiler ski lift station - and the chalet is only 3 minutes walk form the Lauchernalp village ski lift station.
SKIING:
The nearby villages of Wiler and Kippel with charming narrow streets and ancient medieval twisted wooden houses surround the cable car that links the 2000 meter high Lauchernalp village with the villages in the valley below.
The Lötschental [“hidden valley”] valley is among the most beautiful in the Valais region and is located off the Rhone valley in the Bernese Alps overlooking the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Jungfrau – Aletsch – Bietschhorn region.
At Lauchernalp Skiing is from the summit [3111 meters] to Lauchernalp village, over 33 kilometers of trails, suitable for all classes of skiers – particularly experienced skiers. The ski lift infrastructure is the best available – and waiting times for lifts are minimal on most days and times – a weather proof gondola completes the rise to the summit – and to a potential 6 kilo ski to Wiler village at the cable car base.
VILLAGE:
Lauchernalp sits immediately above the town of Wiler; located 5 km from the southern end of the Lötschberg rail tunnel [which also carries car trains] and an hourly post bus from the Goppenstein train station complete an easy air/airport train link from Basel and Bern. Geneva is a 2 hour drive, or slightly longer by train, via Brig, and Zurich is a 3 hour drive.
Chalet die Gletscher is situated opposite the Bietschhorn glacier which sits in the centre of the sitting room and bedroom windows - and the kitchen and dining areas of the salon overlook of the spectacular Lotschental glacier.
The chalet is an excellent base for visiting the 30 kilometer long UNESCO listed Aletsch glacier in the neighboring Rhone valley – for which you should allocate an entire day’s visit.
Ideal for summer walking, reading, writing, mountain climbing or just plain relaxing in the sun - the chalet has direct car access via a sealed road from Wiler which is located at the base of the valley with the cable car – but is only accessible by car during winter snows when the summer road provides an excellent 4 kilometer ski run to Wiler from Lauchernalp village.
On both sides of the chalet can be found an excellent range of summer and autumn walking paths – some with inns to quench your thirst – and some with icy cold mountain water streams so refreshing after a brisk walk.
The village itself has several delightful restaurants within walking distance of the chalet – including Restaurant Bärgsunna which has both Italian and Swiss cuisine and Panoramarestaurant Zudili which has a great cocktail bar and dining room.
Within the valley are 22 restaurants including those in the medieval valley towns of Wiler and Kippel/Ferden accessible by cable car.
Lauchernalp village also has its own grocery shop by the cable car and mini supermarkets are also available in nearby Wiler.
