Our house can provide you with a unique Tucson experience. A few of our guests’ comments:

“This is a gorgeous very private livable house with multiple patios and a private pool all with great city views. Very close to town....”

“This house is awesome!!! We loved it and really enjoyed our stay there. The house and scenery is gorgeous!...”

“We wanted you to know we had such an enjoyable stay at your beautiful home. It was a very cozy and peaceful place, and we had great afternoon siestas!...”

Our own sentiments, exactly. You can sit on your porch or by your swimming pool and look out over the hills to the Tucson valley and Tucson city lights below. Or sit in your dining room, sunroom or one of the bedrooms and view the same scene through the Italian arches that characterize this adobe brick home.

You will enjoy the new comfortable furnishings, decorations and talevera tile laid out in the house's seven spacious rooms and three bathrooms (a total of 2400 square feet), but you will find the surrounding environment just as comfortable. We have provided you 42 photographs here and on the website link shown below so that you can SEE FOR YOURSELF. We hope this takes the guessing out of renting our house. If you have further questions, please ask.

Many Tucson homes are closed in and not oriented toward the outside because the desert surrounding these houses is a bit dry, harsh, and, frankly, uninviting. However, the views of the shade trees and gardens in our yard as well as the surrounding green hills enhance your pleasure while you are inside the house and draw you outside through the sliding doors to enjoy the porches, patios, and yard. For example, when we are there, we eat most of our meals outside on the patio off the dining room under the shade of a roof. The numerous shade trees, the pool, and 15 tall saguaro cactuses on the property make a uniquely welcoming environment, EVEN IN THE HOT SUMMER.

In this unique neighborhood directly West of the city all the homes are spaced far apart at many different elevations so that our house has great privacy and quiet. The neighborhood backs up to the Tucson Mountain Park and is hillier and more scenic than you will find in the Catalina Foothills North of the city. Just a few miles up the road you will find beautiful Gates Pass that takes you down into the next valley where you can visit the Desert Museum and Old Tucson, the ex-movie location. Watching the sunset from atop Gates Pass is a favorite pastime of ours and many other Tucsonians.

Being this "far away" from the noisy city does not mean that you will be isolated. There are neighbors nearby and you will be located only ten minutes from Interstate I-10 ( at Speedway) and 12 minutes to downtown Tucson and the University of Arizona. There you will find museums as well as both upscale and funky craft stores to explore at your leisure. You can enter “Via Mallorca” into MapQuest and see where our house is located.

Why the Owner Chose Gates Pass

To us, this is the most beautiful location in all of Tucson. When we bought this house we planned to retire immediately and live in it six months of the year and then live on the East Coast for the other six months. But we weren't ready to quit working so we had to return to Washington, and we decided to rent the house out with all the furnishings we had bought to enjoy ourselves! Having found this house, we certainly didn't want to give it up. As you can see from the pictures, it is a unique place! Now we can visit when we like, but still rent it out enough to pay the utility bills and taxes!

The Unique Benefits at this Home

We find that just about any season we are there, we can eat, read, and visit on our porches and patios and enjoy the outdoors and the great scenery. At the same time, we are close to downtown and can take in the cultural activities, shopping, and restaurants that Tucson offers. So much of Southern Arizona is "colored" in shades of brown (which we have had to learn to appreciate over time, as Easterners), but it is always nice to be able to return to our house in the middle of our little "oasis" of green, knowing that our yard's drip irrigation system that keeps it growing and green is "environmentally compatible."

A
Our neighborhood

Great views from our hills down over the Tucson valley below.

B
Wildlife Museum

All the animals here are "stuffed", but an interesting place to visit. For live animals, there's the Desert Museum, a short distance West of here, over Gates Pass.

C
Tucson Mountains Park (and Gates Pass)

Enjoy the sunset at Gates Pass and then drive (slowly !) down the pass and look back for spectacular views. A little further on are the Desert Museum ( a must visit), the Suguaro Park, and Old Tucson,

Owner's Map of Gates Pass

We are retired(or almost so)and had good careers in trade policy and in environmental protection respectively. We live in Washington, DC and try to travel as much as we can (as seen in this picture of us at the Forbidden City in Beijing). But we always find our Tucson house the most relaxing place to be.

    • We stayed here for two weeks in June and very much enjoyed it. The house and it's facilities are great, especially the swimming pool. The views from the balconies across Tucson are magnificent particularly at sunrise, I'd recommend this house to anyone.

    • We planned a family vacation to Tucson and had 6 people together in this house in March/April 2007. The house itself, along with the property and views, is absolutely breathtaking!!! We had everything we could want and were still far enough away to enjoy the natural beauty of Southern Arizona. We definitely plan on staying with you again. Thank you!

    • April 17-24, 2005: Just returned from a week's stay at your house and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. While being only minutes away from downtown, we really liked being out in the "country". The non-heated pool took some getting used to, but by our third day, we had the pool-cover-system down pat. We look forward to staying there again in the near future. Thanks. • "May, 2003: We wanted you to know we had such an enjoyable stay at your beautiful home. It was a very cozy and peaceful place and we had great afternoon siestas! The location was perfect for early morning desert hikes, looking at bird life and star gazing on the patio...We would definitely return to Tucson but have been spoiled by our introduction to the area since we had such a beautiful base to explore from! Thanks again and please enjoy the maple syrup--made by our neighbors. We're taking home great memories! Beth and Brad"
