Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Stoplight 1
Lots of people ask us why we chose this area to buy a vacation rental, when there are so many beautiful properties in the northern areas of Michigan. Honestly, it boiled down to two big factors: money and weather. With three young children, we didn't have much money to work with. We were looking specifically for a modest, fixer-upper. And Michigan gets mighty cold after October, so we headed south for our cabin search. We love the Smokies, the history of the area and it's welcoming people. We've made many friends and acquaintances there over the years, and you can't help but feel that wonderful southern charm and hospitality wherever you go.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Swaying Pines is a hidden gem...only 5 minutes from either Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. We especially enjoy the short drive to either town when it's really busy, like holidays. The 6 acre lake is privately owned so you don't need to spend $16 for a fishing license. It's so relaxing to take a walk around the corner to the lake and drop a line...or just make a loop around the lake for some exercise. The horseshoes are lots of fun, too. Something we don't have at home and everyone really enjoys. We own a border collie and a mini-Aussie/Sheltie, both which love to visit the mountains with us. Swaying Pines is our favorite cabin of our three to stay in when we bring the pets along. They have a small yard area to play in and we can take them for walks.
The 6 acre community lake is only a short walk around the corner from Swaying Pines. No license required because it's private property. Catch and release fishing only.
If you love golf and can only play one course while you're in town, this is it. Rick loves playing here. Amazing views, well kept greens and a very challenging course!
If you've brought along your dogs and they need a change of scenery, this Pigeon Forge city park right next to the Community Center is ideal. There is a nice long paved walkway along the creek and ri

One again, Amy has provided us with a wonderful vacation home! We are overjoyed that Abby (our dachsund) is able to accompany us! A pet home with NO pet smell! And, as usual, time flew! It looked just like the photos! The Christmas decorations were beautiful! I showed by husband how to play horseshoes....he had never played before. Amy provides you with all you need (detergent, dryer sheets, flashlights, FLAMELESS CANDLES, pens, paper, tin foil, spices, scissors, etc.) The things that you forget, are here waiting for you. All the kitchen stuff you need is also here, as well as cleaning supplies. The beds were so comfortable, and even with so much to do up here, we got 7-8 great hours of sleep each night in these beds. You are so close to everything at this home. The drive to the chalet is very easy. We had such a wonderful time here...but, we always do when we stay with Amy. She seems to know what makes you feel at home, and provides it. Oh yeah, and she even has "doggy sheets" for the sofa. That was really thoughtful and we weren't having to always remember to bring her blankets from upstairs for her to lie on. The hot tub was wonderful, and you feel so secluded here even though you aren't. Her other homes are wonderful too, but Swaying Pines has that little something that makes you feel like part of a community with the lake so close by. The neighborhood (and its friendly canines) is so nice. A couple of them accompanied us when we walked around the lake. It is just a great place for a walk or jog or just sitting in the swing or on the porch. I really hate to leave here in the AM, but it is back to work on Monday. THANK YOU AMY and family for all you do!!!! You really know how to treat your guests!!!! Hoping to return very soon to one of your homes!! God Bless You All and Merry Christmas!!!
Owner response:Stephanie, I couldn't ask for nicer guests and a more glowing review! Thank you for sharing our Swaying Pines "secret." This is not the big fancy log cabin 'experience' but more like a place you can relax and enjoy with no worries. I was at Swaying Pines last night to do some work, and yes, our Golden Retriever friend came by for a treat and some lovin' LOL I think he's the goodwill ambassador for us. Thanks Stephanie and I hope someday you get to complete our quartet of cabins with a visit to Waters' Edge!

Our stay at Swaying Pines was absolutely WONDERFUL!!! My kids had the best time. Now they say we can never visit the Smokies and stay at any other property. The cabin exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean and well stocked. We felt completely at home and our stay was totally stress free. Thank you Amy for sharing such a wonderful home with us. We will definitely book another stay. Oh, and our Shih-Tzu Cissy felt right at home too. PS Amy, it was just what my dear mother in law needed. Did her a lot of good to relax at the cabin.
Owner response:I'm glad your entire family had such a great time and the cabin was a hit with everyone, even the dog! Thank you Cheryl and please come again anytime.

Just wanted to say we had a great time at Swaying Pines over the Thanksgiving holiday. The pictures on here don't do the chalet justice, it really has a nice homey feel and the decorations are great. My wife said the kitchen was better equipped than her's. I will highly recommend this place to others.
Owner response:Hi Perry, I'm glad Thanksgiving at Swaying Pines was a success. Please tell your wife that I'm flattered she liked the kitchen equipment. I was just there a few days ago and put a new double griddle in the cupboard, so we've added one more item to the arsenal for those who enjoy cooking--even on vacation LOL Thank you for the recommendation and please come back again!

Thank you for another great vacation! The chalet was very nice and well stocked. The kids loved the video games, fooseball table, and the hot tube. We spent lots of time grilling and relaxing on the porch. The location was just right. We look forward to renting with you again.
Owner response:Hi Johnny, it was great to have your family back again. Last year it was the TreeHouse...this year Swaying Pines :0) I'm happy that you and the kids liked everything and had a great vacation. Thank you for being repeat guests! Amy

Swaying Pines was a delightful little chalet surrounded by trees. We even enjoyed the drive back from the Parkway to the chalet. We didn't really realize that there were a couple of houses close by because everything was so quiet. The chalet was exactly as described online. We loved the yard, porch, and hot tub. My husband and son had a great time with the horseshoes in the backyard. Our little grandDOG enjoyed the back yard and the little pug that came to play. The chalet was very comfortable for the five of us.The property was very clean and well maintained. Everything that you need to cook with can be found in the welll stocked kitchen. We did do quite a bit of cooking and found everything that was needed to prepare all of the meals. I am already ready to come again. I most certainly would recommend this chalet to anyone planning a visit to the Smokies. We have stayed in several different places and this was one of our favorites. Thanks for sharing your lovely chalet with us.
Owner response:Jane, thank you for such a thorough review. I like a well-stocked kitchen, too, so I make appliances and kitchen wares a priority. It sounds like your family enjoyed both the inside and outside features--nothing went to waste! I appreciate your recommendation to others and hope you'll be able to come back again.

My family had a great time at Swaying Pines. It was a perfect location to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. When we did have a minute, there was plenty to do at the cabin. The hot tub was the biggest hit. Beautiful at night with the lights around the deck. Everything we needed to make it feel like home was there. Thank you so much for letting stay there. The descriptions were right on and the communication between us and the owner was perfect. Very clean and comfortable.
Owner response:Kelly, thank you for letting us know how much fun you had at Swaying Pines. It is so good to know that our guests feel right at home and that you really enjoyed your vacation. Thanks for the 5-star review. We appreciate it!

We arrived to Swaying Pines at 7PM on New Year's 12/31/2009. As soon as we opened the front door to the cabin, we all were surprised at how inviting and comfortable the cabin was...The baker's rack in the kitchen even had doggie treats for our pitbull Cocoa, who believes she is a 70lb lap dog. It is obvious that a lot of love has gone into the villa at Swaying Pines. This was my first trip to Gatlinburg, and I was a little worried about driving up the mountain in the winter, but the location was a perfect mix between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Even though it was only 20 degrees, we did get in a QUICK stay in the hot tub, and walked Cocoa around the lake only about 500 feet away. Swaying Pines exceed our expectations and I have already recommeded this property to others...and it was a perfect way to bring in the New Year.

Hi Amy & Family. Our stay at Swaying Pines Chalet was wonderful. My entire family and dogs really enjoyed our Christmas Holidays in the Smokie Mtns. The cabin was such a cozy and inviting place to stay. My daughers, Leigh & Anna really enjoyed the hot tub & my son-in-law Keith had a blast playing horse shoes. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg were both just a skip away which made it very convenient for shopping and dining out, only, we cooked most all of our meals in the cabin. It was such a memorable Christmas for all of us. We will definitely want to rent your wonderful chalet again soon... P.S. The Christmas tree and decorations were my favorite. It made Christmas so special with my family.
