Why the Owner Chose Roan Mountain
East Tennessee is a beautiful area. You are so near and so far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The beauty, tranquility and serenity of the region just draws you into the abundance of what God has provided for us. This is truly a region of kindness, generosity and caring for each other. We felt at home the first time we visited and just continued to go back.
The Unique Benefits at this House
My favorite time of day is early morning. I enjoy taking a cup of coffee outside and listening to the creek and the sounds of nature as the day begins. At this time of morning I never know what kind of wildlife I might see. I keep hoping to see a Black Bear wandering through. Until I do I will be happy with the Wild turkey, Deer, Hummingbirds, rabbits, birds and so forth. Later in the day we fish, swim, wander the grounds, hike through the woods and read beside the creek. Nightfall brings us inside for the evening to be lulled to sleep as we listen to the sounds of nature and the rushing of the creek just outside our window.
Owner's Map of Roan Mountain
We are a retired Military family who have not had a permanent place in over thirty years. We raised our children going from duty station to duty station knowing that one day we would stop roaming and find our perfect place. We found Hummingbird Meadow as a vacation rental. While in the NE Tennessee region looking for property we asked if we could visit. When we entered the gates we knew that we had to have it. The search for our forever home was over. One day we will live on the property. Until then we look forward to sharing it with you!

I have never given a review before, but felt I must share with others about this vacation spot. My mother cannot climb stairs, so she had the downstairs room. It had a beautiful view and a bathroom besides. The property is so beautiful with a dining room that has two glass walls for viewing the pond (with fountain) and hill. By the way, each morning, 10 turkeys flew in and landed beside us on the hill while we were having our coffee. They were so dependable, I was able to set up my video camera and capture their flight two mornings. There is plenty to do. We went antiquing in Elizabethton (10 minutes away), zip lining close to Boone, NC (1 hour), and hiking the area was amazing. I would love to bring my grandkids. There is a heated pool/hot tub/bar area/grilling area that is to die for with a sound system. I highly recommend this spot.
Owner response:Thank you for your gracious review of our property. Mike and I are always delighted when families enjoy our property as much as we do. We think that it is a year round perfect vacation destination. The visit from the Turkey is always a treat. We have seen flocks that are numbering 50+ on several occasions. It is quite a site to see. We do believe that they have calendars at their disposal since they seem to disappear before Thanksgiving and do not return until after the big day. The same thing happens before Christmas. Perhaps on your next visit the deer will pay you a visit. One lucky family even saw a mama bear and her cubs last spring. We hope to experience that sit some day. We thank you for your visit and hope to see you again soon.

My husband is wheelchair bound and was able to move around the house find. We did bring our own ramp to get in the house, but there is a ramp there that worked with help. The driveway was good for parking and unloading trailer with motorcycles. Carport to park bikes underneath. Bill (caretaker was very helpfull and freindly). The pool water was very cool at time of our stay but the hot tub was very nice after a long day. Sitting out on the deck early in the morning drinking coffee was very peaceful. It is very peaceful and no noise. The pond with the fountain and the running creek through property was beautiful. We want to stay longer. But had to get back to the grind of the real world. Hope to go back next year. Close to town for shopping. The house was very clean and had every thing you need extra restrooms outside for the pool area and also stereo for music while being outside. Thanks for everything, great vacation.
Owner response:Thank you for taking a moment to share your thoughts with other travelers on our property. I was a bit concerned that your husband might find it difficult to maneuver his chair inside our home. I am thrilled to learn that he did not.. As for the use of the existing ramp..Yikes.. that was built by the previous owner for an older pet with hip dysplasia. I certainly do not encourage the use of that ramp for adults but am glad that you had no problem. I hope that you will allow us to share our home with you again. Perhaps when the night temps are not dropping so much and the pool heater can keep the water temp warm enough to swim.

My Daughter and two Yorkies just spent the most relaxing time ever at this truely splendid property. The amenities here were awesome!!! (Pool, hot tub, park like setting and the most glorious views of the mountains) I would recommend this property to everyone.....the times just stops when you enter the Hummingbird Meadows....and we saw a ton of Hummingbirds! And Bill, your property host, is so very delightful. He knows all the history of the property and will assist you with any needs. You can literally sit on the deck in the evenings and time just seems to stop and you just breathe!!! I have spent a lot of vacations at beach properties, but these glorious mountainous views are like nothing you will ever experience! Rent this property.....I honestly promise you it will be worth it!
Owner response:Richia, thank you for your review. It is always a thrill when guests enjoy their stay and take a few minutes to let potential renters know that our property is all and more than we say it is. I am hoping that you will allow us to share our home with you again..

My friends and I stayed a weekend in March. We loved the cabin and loved flexibility of the owners. They are easy to work with and I would recommend this cabin to anyone! The cabin is not too far from Elizabethton so if you need anything you are an easy drive into town. The hot tub was great on the cool nights but Bill had family in so we didn't get to hang out with him as much as we wanted! Thanks again for everything and we will be staying again this March.
Owner response:Nate, Thanks for the kind words and recommendation to future guests. We are always thrilled when previous guests return. It let's us know that we are doing things just right,

We recently booked this property for a quick, mini vacation from August 12th through the 15th and boy did it deliver. The owner was quick to respond to our inquiries and get us down there in less than a week!! After arriving we knew we had stumbled upon something amazing. The property was perfectly secluded, yet close enough for a quick run into town. The pool area became our home away from home as we were out there everyday. The house was charming and perfectly understated, I personally enjoyed the selection of books in the downstairs bedroom. This house also worked amazingly well for our two yorkies who were also in tow for the trip. They loved running up the hill and exploring all the property!! I can't thank you enough for our time there, this vacation was the last one my husband and two daughters will be taking together as our family will grow this year with a marriage, and I am so glad I got to spend it there!!!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your kind words regarding our home. We love sharing it with families, including well behaved and trained fur babies. My Yorkies also enjoy exploring the mountain. I hope that you will find another opportunity to visit us and enjoy all that our home and property have to offer. We are convinced that our place is a "slice of heaven" carved out just for us and special people to share it with.

We rented the main house for a family reunion in the Roan Mountain area. It slept seven of us very comfortably. The private setting is absolutely spectacular-peaceful and relaxing. It is a great spot for entertaining as there is a stereo system in the pool area.....swim, listen to music, and relax in the hot tub. It doesn't get any better than that! Bill, the caretaker on the property is a wonderful man- he makes sure everything is in working order and has great information on the history of the property. He is there if you need him-not intrusive at all. We would highly recommend this property and the owners are great! Steve and Diane
Owner response:Steve and Diane, Many thanks to you for your kind comments. It is always nice to know that our guests enjoyed our mountain home enough to take a few moments and share their experience with others. Hoping that we have an opportunity to share our home with you in the future!, Janice

We rented both the main house and the cabin so that we could attend my husband's family reunion. The rental far exceeded our expectations! The grounds were just beautiful and the house and cabin were loaded with charm. The pool and hot tub were a wonderful bonus (especially for the kids). We spent a lot of quality time with immediate and extended family at Hummingbird Meadow, and made memories that will last a lifetime. The property's caretaker was delightful and even had dinner with us our first evening there. He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the property, and provided many entertaining stories. We feel so grateful and blessed to have found Hummingbird Meadow and definitely plan to return in the future! Thanks for sharing your Tennessee paradise with our family!
