Outstanding location and stay. The house was very clean and the perfect size for our party. We spent a lot of time at the beach which is about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive. The place is surrounded by a beautiful scenery and well worth the visit. Listing was clear and accurate. The owner was outstanding in communicating with us and help us along through the rental process. This is a great place with great owners. Very close to the delicious Swedish Bakery and only a short drive to the local market. Well worth the stay and very well priced for all that is included.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed the facilities very much with the exception of not having power for 24 hours in the area of Harbert. This was due to a problem with the electric company and NOT the owners fault. We enjoyed reliving memories of summers past and getting together with old friends in the area. We will come back!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wonderful experience all round !! Dale (Owner) was prompt in all his communications and squeezed me in at the last minute for a 3 night mid-week stay. He knows the area very well and this is definitely a plus. Dog-friendly property which was great, and a lovely little home, so comfortable, and neat as a pin. 2br, 2bath, both nice, and a W/D which was a plus, as well as a GREAT kitchen with a nice big fridge, FAB outdooor screened porch and, fast speed wi-fi. Terrific location, tucked off the main road on a wooded lot, right off the Red Arrow Highway, between New Buffalo and Sawyer, MI. Love the Sawyer Mkt., fresh produce, gourmet foods and gifts, as well as other surrounding shops and restaurants. Grilled dinner one night on the Weber provided, & sat on the back porch with candles flickering and a lovely breeze. Quiet, friendly, and private area, but still close to everything. Glorious walk to the Lake, and beach access was terrific. The mutt and I romped for over an hour before we even saw a soul. Central A/C in the cottage, which we needed during the humid and hot weather, and such a relief to sleep in comfort and needed for the dog. Beautiful hardwood floors (tile in bathrooms & kitchen) kept us cool, and made it easy to sweep up sand and fuzzies. This is not the Ritz, but a beautiful little hideaway with all the comforts of home and then some. I would assuredly recommend this spot to anyone wanting to run away from City life for a bit and those who crave a quiet break any time of the year. Thanks for having us Dale, we will be back to enjoy more Michigan memories !!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a great house in a great area of Michigan, everything was clean and well stocked. The screened porch is fantastic, and we were able to watch some deer one morning, as well as some birds feeding their babies right next to the porch. It's very private and quiet. The owner was very helpful and available.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time at Harbert Getaway. Unfortunately the weather kept us from the beach (which is a healthy 15 min walk) the majority of the weekend, but there were plenty of other things to keep us busy. Daily runs on the local roads were fantastic. The Harbert Antique Mall was fun. Cafe Gulistan and Fitzgeralds were satisfying local food options. Domaine Berrien was our favorite winery (we're partial to bold reds). Definitely a great place to spend a few days away from the city. Thanks Dale for sharing your place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My coworkers and I booked this home for a program-design retreat and it's exactly what we needed. The home is right off of Red Arrow Hwy nestled away from the sound of traffic. But it was exactly a fifteen minute walk around the "block" to my favorite beach spot on Lake, MI in that area. We had consistent internet, wide spaces for all our butcher paper and post-it notes, and an amazing fire that warmed the whole house. It rained the whole time we were there but I felt that was God just making sure we stayed focused :-) Additionally, Dale let me know the day before that the electricity had gone out of the house and assured me that I could either get a refund or book for another weekend without any hassle. Thank you for sharing your home!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Dale: Thank you for sharing your house with us for the weekend. We had a relaxing though very cold couple of days. It was nice to be able to take Stoney, our golden too. The house is cute and it was good to break our routine and visit Michigan. SallyRecommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

Our family spent a few days at this property over the Thanksgiving holiday. Dale was extremely accommodating with our last minute request, and we had a fabulous time. The house is super cute- clean, decorated nice/beachy, huge yard and huge screened-in deck and it really had everything we needed. A quick walk to the beach each morning for a lovely stroll, and cozy fireplace to hang by at night. We can't wait to go back in the summer! Thanks so much Dale!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. My husband and I come up to Harbor Country a few times a year, but this was our first stay at Harbert Getaway. Very clean and nicely appointed. The family room is very cozy, and the bed very comfortable (I could have slept all day). It was too cold (it snowed that weekend!) to spend any time on the screened in porch, but that would be a wonderful place to relax and read, eat, or play games. Thank you for making this dog friendly too. Our pups love being with their people, and enjoyed spending time in front of the fireplace as much as we did. Dale was very responsive to email and text message inquiries during our stay, but everything was as described. I would recommend this to any couple or small family wanting a comfortable place to stay within a short drive to all the area attractions. We never miss Red Arrow Roadhouse or Stray Dog. And we even won a few $$$ at the Four Winds Casino! I'm sure Dale wouldn't mind guaranteeing that part of the stay :-) We'll definitely be back, especially since this is available all year.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We found this property on VRBO while trying to determine the "perfect spot" to go to for a few days of nature and a nice peaceful break from the city. Dale was very quick and timely in responding to our questions about the property, location, etc. as well as solidifying the details after we determined this is where we wanted to stay. The house was nice and cozy, perfect for us and our 2 dogs for a couple of days. The area is amazingly peaceful with nature and the woods being all around you. The beach is incredible and is only a short walk from the house. We didn't venture too much from the house as we simply wanted a break and to enjoy the outdoors. After we booked the reservation, Dale sent a great email giving facts and directions to the closest beaches, grocery, stores, etc. that was very helpful and appreciated. We truly enjoyed our time at the Harbert Getaway and are looking forward to booking our next stay!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This was our family's first time to the area and we really enjoyed it. The house is set just off of Red Arrow Highway, within walking distance of some shops and a fantastic breakfast place called Luisa's Cafe. What we enjoyed the most at this house was the enclosed porch. We ate all of our lunches and dinners out there and never had to worry about mosquitos and bees. A private beach is a two minute drive from there, and all of the attractions in the New Buffalo area are only 12 minutes away. The kitchen had all of the necessary utensils and pots/pans. There is a charcoal grill in the back along with a metal firepit stand. The yard is large for kids to run around on. Inside there is a nice sectional sofa in the front room, and the beds are very comfortable. The lower bunk bed can easily fit two kids. Very clean and well-maintained. I would recommend it for anyone; families, wine-tasters, antiquers, etc.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This cottage has it all...great location, beautifully updated, all the amenties of home (wireless, washer/dryer, well stocked kitchen, cable), and spotlessly cleaned.. Dale and Ruth went the extra mile to make sure our visit was stress free. The private beach is wonderful! The local resturants are wonderful...I think our favorite, however is the bakery right around the corner (way to close and convenient!). Thank you for a wonderful trip!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed the house! It was centrally located but still had a rural feel to it due to the large yard. The house was clean and the rooms were all a nice size. We used the screened porch a lot instead of the table inside. There was a folder with area attractions and menus for several of the restaurants nearby. This was helpful in figuring out what places we wanted to visit. The private beach was outstanding (it was about a mile walk to get there). There were several times when we were the only people on the beach! We enjoyed it so much we never made it to the public beaches available. We also love that we were able to bring our dog to the private beach. He had a great time and the people that were at the beach at the same time were very welcoming. We definitely look forward to coming back and staying at this house again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Spent the weekend in Sept, for the Apple Cider Century Bike ride..Highly recommend the ride and the stay at Dales house. This propery is perfect for a couple or for the entire family. The house is adorable in a secluded setting and in walking distance to the beach. Dont miss the beautiful sunsets on Lake Michigan. With several wineries, antique shops and the Warren Dunes close by, there is always something to do. Perfect place to leave the city and relax. Looking forward to going back next year. The Harbert Getaway is perfect!! The location is amazing -- just off Red Arrow Highway. The house is clean and well stocked, with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, full kitchen, and central air and heating. The owner has thought of everything -- including a charcoal grill and sticks for roasting marshmellows. The covered porch is amazing!! All and all, this place is a 10 out of 10! Would definitely recommend it!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I had my girls' weekend with Nancy Becker from Lisle, Illinois the first weekend in August. What a great time we had! Your house made us very comfortable. I particularly loved the screened-in porch. Nancy knew the area like home so I couldn't have asked for more. The beaches were nice and very close. I would stay again at your place in a heartbeat! What a terrific girls' weekend I had. My friend and I loved your place. It was comfortable and clean, decorated with pretty soft colors and the screened- in porch with Adirondack chairs was my favorite part! I know this area very well and found your home to be a great central point to Harbor Country - picked blueberries, wine tasting, peaches from Williams Orchards and great dining and beaches. Will come back with hubbie! Thank you Dale and Ruth.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a wonderful weekend getaway! This is a cozy, very clean home that is wonderful for a couple or a girls' weekend away. This was our second year traveling with friends to Michigan and staying at Dale and Ruth's Harbert Getaway. You will not find a better location to visit the private or public beach, the wineries, night life, or casino. There is something for everyone! This house far exceeds any stay in a hotel. You will not be disappointed. A big thanks to Dale and Ruth for their hospitality! We will be back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time with out two dogs in Harbert. The private beach we had access to was stunning, and it was great that we could walk down there with our dogs (the walk to the beach is also nice). The screened in porch made even a rainy day lovely. Also, the house is quite private--there are no neighbours within view from the windows.Did you find this review helpful? Me and my friends we spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at the cottage. The house is well equipped with kitchen accessories, washer, dryer, TV ect. Recently remodeled, so it's clean, well maintained, cozy and nicely decorated. We got a "welcome" tour from Dale to show us the area which was very nice of him. There is plenty of room outside, grill, open fire place and excellent outdoor patio that we used all the time. Definitely worth coming back.Did you find this review helpful?
