I had a great time on this vacation. The house itself was very cute and extremely clean. Unfortunately there is definitely an ant problem that needs to be addressed. The yard was nice, but definitely wouldn't recommend it for children because the hill down to the the docks is very steep. You can't really swim too much right at the dock since there are rocks and such but we took the boats that were provided across to the public beaches which was fun. Unfortunately the row boat was taking on too much water to take it out on the lake and go fishing. Also fishing from the dock was not the best because the trees hang down very low, but we did catch a few sunfish right in front of the dock. Also upon arriving i hadn't heard from the owner about where the key was kept. Thank god we caught the neighbor before he left and he showed us where it was or we wouldn't have been able to get in. All in all I had a great time with great people but as for the actually house I probably would try something new next year.Owner response: Ashley, I am glad that you and your oversized party had fun. Sound travels on the water. Just so you know residence on the lake were calling me. I wanted to let you know of the noise problem, therefore I called you that night. At that time I was looking out for your interest as well. Please no Fire works in the very late hours after 11 before 10 is better? I know you made some effort to clean up still you left the place with enough containers and firework shells that we filled a pickup truck. I can see how you may have temporarily drawn some insects while you where there. It was a huge clean up unprecedented. We sent you your deposit. thanks Ashley

This was a very nice place to stay for our anniversary week-end! We had wonderful weather (in the 80s!). It was great relaxing on the deck or down on the dock. Although there are things to do in the area (thanks for the basket of information!), we just wanted to chill and that's what we did. Went for a ride around the lake in the row boat which was nice. We did have to empty it due to all the rain we've have lately. Didn't try the kayaks as they also were full of water and leaves, and we've never tried one out before. The fenced in yard was nice for the dogs too. The house was as described, clean and well-maintained, and we would recommend this to anyone. The Shaw's grocery store was not far and had everything we needed for our short stay. The owner, Charlie, was very helpful with specifics on the house and the area. Hope to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

we had a great relaxing time at the cottage. The fenced yard was an added bonus for my dogs. The house was neat, cozy and very comfy. The wood stove came in handy on a few cold mornings, much nicer than turning on the heat. The kitchen was stocked with all we needed. There are plenty of boats to use, however the weather did not allow us to take advantage of them. The only comfort I missed was Internet access. Thanks for the nice, peaceful week.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Catherine, Thank you for taking such good care of the lake house and thanks for the compliments. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay on Hummingbird lane despite the stormiest summer week that I can remember. I hope that you will return and you deserve better weather next time. That the glass door wood stove is a comfort Please note, that there is wifi in the house. I am sorry that you missed that. It has been my pleasure. Charles

My husband and I stayed at this cottage during a very chilly April school vacation. We spent the week hiking every day, and relaxing in the house in the evenings. We cooked every day, and spent a lot of quality time together. The fenced in yard was perfect for our puppy, who had a blast running after sticks and testing out the water. The cottage was so comfortable, and it served as the perfect retreat from our otherwise busy lives. This was one of the op vacations we have ever taken! Thanks so much Charlie!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay despite some rain. I understand that you enjoyed it so much that you are buying a place of you own, congratulations! best, Charlie and Mary

We stayed at the Lake House the second week of October 2010. We found a charming cottage with a very comfortable interior, a well equipped kitchen, a cosy living room with a fire place and a wonderful view of the lake. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed the sunshine and brilliant colours of the fall. There is a sun deck on the lake with three comfortable deck chairs and 2 kayaks, a rowing boat and a pedal boat. We enjoyed our stay very much, the region is beautiful and well located for all kinds of trips. One day we went to the Mt. Monadnock, another day to the Lakes Region, and another day to the White Mountains. It never took us more than 2 hours. Our host, Charlie DuMond, was very helpful and we found everything the way he described. If that beautiful spot wasn't so far away (we are two families from Bonn, Germany) we would definitely try to come back soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful vacation at Emerald Lake! The cottage itself was perfect - very comfortable, neat, clean, etc. We had not realized that motor boats and jet-skis are not allowed on the lake. This was a pleasant surprise for us. Not only was it quiet, but we could go out in the canoe and not be concerned about other noisy boating traffic. The place offered full privacy, but we were also within an easy drive of church, shopping, blueberry picking and hiking trails. Hope to go back again next year. Thank you Charlie and Mary!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Hi Charlie- We received your letter and check today for the deposit. Thanks so much. We had a wonderful time. We loved the cabin which was so clean and comfortable. The first night there was a short rain shower and we saw a double rainbow over the pines trees from the deck. We swam a lot and also enjoyed the rowboat and paddleboat. We gave the children masks and snorkles, so they kept busy checking out all the fish including one they named Chester (probably about 10 different ones that look alike). My son caught his first fish which we released. Then, the children decided they would rather feed the fish than catch them. From the dock, they impaled japanese beetles on the latch which usually fastens the hook to the line. It was amazing to watch the fish come up and gulp down one after another. (The beetles were collected from the poor Cherry Tree which seemed to have a lot on it at mid day). We rowed across the pond a number of times and swam at the little beach to the left of the inlet (without the swing set/playground). We liked it because it was quiet, had a nice sandy bottom, and we often found frogs in the rushes. We wondered if a beaver was building a house or simply stockpiling sticks in the lily pads at the mouth of the inlet. Twice we found freshly cut tree branches over there that had been gnawed off by a beaver. My husband and I also appreciated the wireless. I had to bring a bit of work up with me,and this made it much more convenient. We ventured out a bit to Hillsboro where we stopped for ice cream and Henniker where we found the St. George Cafe which had wonderful bagels. We explored a section of the river coming down from Hillsborough into Henniker past the sporting store where we picked up a package of night crawlers and found out that the children did not need fishing licenses. The river was neat. We waded around, looked at minnows and frogs, and saw a very large beaver lodge on the far side. I loved your little kitchen which was so well stocked with various cooking pots and utensils. We mostly cooked and ate out on the porch. The children ate enormous amounts of food due to all their swimming. In short, it was a great week. A very nice experience for our family. We mostly spend time on the ocean in ME where I grew up, so the chance to be on a pond and swim and explore the fresh water habitat was a treat. We would love to return and even see the pond in the fall or winter. Sincerely, JessieDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/7
