Wonderful place to stay

Guest: M. & J. (Eureka, California)

We recently (Sept., 2011) stayed for three nights at the River Guest House. It was immaculate, charming and very comfortable. The view of the river is amazing. The owners were friendly and helpful, but not at all intrusive. We travel quite a lot, especially through Oregon, and this place is one of the nicest we've visited.

Great place to stay

My wife and I, along with our 13 year old daughter stayed here on our trip in July and it was great. We are relocating to the area, and spent a few days here while we looked for a house and signed up for classes at OSU in Corvallis We will definitely recommend it to others coming to the area for a visit. It was peaceful, with a beautiful view of the river. The rooms were very nicely done and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is a full kitchen, flat screen TV, wireless internet, pretty much all the comforts of home. They had a rollout bed for our daughter, which was very nice. She loved the rope swing by the river, and being able to explore and take pictures. They also have a pool table and laundry in an old barn on the property which was really neat. The owners very very friendly and helpful. It's about a 10 minute drive into Corvallis, but it was well worth it. We highly recommend this place to others.

Great Place!

Pictures don't do this place justice. The grounds are beautiful enough, but when you walk in and see the view of the river you'll be blown away. Super comfortable, well-equipped, great ambience. Stayed here for OSU graduation and our friends at hotels in Corvallis couldn't stay away from the riverhaus. Great Mennonite bakery down the road, so if they're open during your stay be sure to pick up some maple bars & sticky buns. One day we did a loop to the coast via Florence and Waldport- beautiful drive. Kathy and Greg will help you however they can, but they'll also leave you be to just relax and enjoy the place. A five star VRBO experience!

Just What the Doctor Ordered !!

Date of Stay: 05/26/11 Review Submitted: 06/01/11

Our recent visit over the Memorial Day weekend was the last leg of a long road trip. We needed to "get out of Dodge", have some time to relax and enjoy one another. The River House was perfect! We walked along the river, enjoyed the sounds of the water and birds chirping, and later cuddled up on the cozy sofa looking out the big picture window at the river. Kathy and Gregg made sure we had everything that we needed to unwind and relax. It was wonderful to have a spotlessly clean place, fresh flowers in every room and be surrrounded by nature. We had all the privacy that we needed but Kathy and Gregg were there whenever we needed them. There's no doubt that we'll return many times. It's not every day that you get to experience a little taste of heaven!

LOVE this place - our 'second home'

Guest: Jon & Cathy (Fresno, CA)
Date of Stay: 03/16/11 Review Submitted: 03/17/11

This old granary is a lovely (approximately 800-1,000ft) three-room 'cottage'. Private, but attached to the main granary. It is beautifully decorated in Southwestern 'chic' decor....lovely, yet comfotrtable. It has many windows overlooking the scenic Williamette River about 50 feet away from the cottage. In addition to the river-view, the sunset views from the cottage are magnificent. It has it own private entry and parking immediately in front of the cottage. It is a very secluded, private cottage away from the quiet 2-lane roadway about 150 yards away. My wife and I consider it our second-home as we stay there when visiting our son and his family in Corvallis (9 miles away). The hosts are friendly and gracious. We highly recommend this cute getaway river-front cottage.

River House trumps all Corvallis lodging; Excellent venue for attending all OSU related events

Guest: Discriminating Traveler (Northern California)
Date of Stay: 02/17/11 Review Submitted: 03/25/11

This property beats any lodging Corvallis has to offer. We prefer to have the option to cook our own meals and otherwise feel at home. This place is beautifully appointed, extremely clean and very much the product of detail and very cool decorative taste. The location is ideal if you want to be a bit removed from the congestion of town and in the midst of absolute beauty, yet you are close enough to town to take advantage of grabbing dinner, groceries, or attending a ball game or other events. I read the review from the newleyweds from Chicago. Could not disagree more. There was (is) no doubt some underlying issue which has nothing to do with these accommodations. Kathy is very cool, is keenly interested in making you happy, but she very professionally keeps her distance. She's proud of her property, as would be anyone with this true gem. WE SHALL RETURN.

Jeff from Fort Worth, Texas

I can't imagine a better, more relaxing place to get away from it all. The setting is suitably rustic in the Corvallis Valley, but there are towns within easy driving distances. Hosts Kathy and Gregg couldn't be more welcoming, and the cabin itself is just beyond belief. I sat comfortably staring at the river for hours on end. Privacy is not an issue. I cannot fathom why anyone could believe that it was. I would not only recommend this location to my friends, I intend to stay there again - I'm looking forward to it. That's the highest recommendation possible.

A wonderful place for the everyday traveler or the picky one that wants more than the norm!

Guest: Ken's Getaway (Corvallis, OR)
Date of Stay: 01/13/11 Review Submitted: 03/17/11

Although I live in Corvallis, I needed a get-a-way and found this VRBO to be an excellent choice. It is close to the river and there is lots of open space nearby for long open space walks. It is a lovely place that is actually attached to the large main house, with a great view. It is cleaner than most 5 star hotels I have stayed at and one of the top ten VRBO's that I have enjoyed on my travels. It is convenient to Corvallis with cities such as Eugene and Albany Oregon not too far away to visit. Not only are the buildings and grounds full of history, but the location allows for easy access to such places as Brownsville and other old communities that are full of history. I was surprised to find a pool table for guest use, located in a neatly decorated room in the original granary. The owners are respectful of guest space, wonderful, knowledgeable, and available if I wanted them to be. All was as stated on the listing and I really enjoyed my needed get-a-way... I departed filled up and ready to return to a busy everyday life. Thanks so much for this wonderful place! I will tell all my friends and family that are visiting the area and need a place to stay, to see if this VRBO is available first. PS - I recommend making your reservations early because I am sure this wonderful cottage must be booked most of the time.

Beautiful Peaceful and Quiet, Home Away from Home-Hilo Hawaii

Date of Stay: 08/13/10 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

We came to Oregon last June for our Nieces wedding in Sweet Home we saw the pictures of this beautiful cottage and the pictures of the enchanting chairs by the river sold us. Our family came from many places for the wedding and stayed in many different areas from Corvallis to Albany to Sweet Home we had the best and everyone was jealous. You just sit in those chairs by the river and never want to leave. The cottage was addorable and well equipped with everything we needed incuding great coffee a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed walking along the river. We enjoyed it so much we came back for 10 days in August to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversay. Kathy and Gregg are great hosts a phone call away(always answered) or a knock on their door if we had any questions as to where to eat or go in Oregon they recommended great places to eat and see. The cottage is beautifully furnished and immaculately clean and the flowers and grounds are beautiful. At the end of the day we enjoyed sitting on the Lanai and watching the river run and listening to the wind thru the trees. We highly reccomend this cottage for someone who wants a quiet peaceful setting to get away our 10 days was way to short we hope to come back soon!

Not Quite as Promised

Guest: Spitfire (Chicagoland)
Date of Stay: 07/08/10 Review Submitted: 08/12/10

While the photos are actually of the property, we felt very mislead by calling this "River Cottage" insuinuating the quarters were exclusive, when really it is simple two rooms attached to the main house, where the owners are currently living. It was not made clear that there would be people on-site at the same time we were! As newlyweds, this was disappointing. Hot tub was "broken", grill not set aside for private use, there was not a 2-mile trek along the river (plus, the mountain view is down the road), the owners used the "overhead parking", never saw a pool table and the bathroom in this side room of the main house has open ventilation all around it and Kathy goes through the rooms every day- I've had more privacy in an outhouse. It is unfortunate that these promises were made; there is much to be said about the property if "sharing" is a known factor: the river is right there with adirondacks for hanging out, it is close to the highway, and Kathy is friendly for the socilate-style vacation. The upside: to escape, we saw a lot of Oregon and this state is way cool.

Owner response:Our sincere apoligies that our property did not meet the expectations of our guests from Chicago. In all fairness to us upon check-in or the next day if our guests would have told us that our property did not meet their expections, we would have gladly refunded their money and wished them well in finding new accomodations. We had already given them a reduced nightly rate. We do not insuinate that the quarters are exclusive, in fact we make it clear that the unit is attached to our main house, but has it's own entrance and is very private from our living quarters. I would hope that this indicates that we the owners are on the property. We do not feel that our River Guest Quarters are just simple two rooms attached to our house, we are proud to offer a private large unit with a living room, bedroom with french doors, a large bathroom and a nice sunroom with a wonderful river view. The open ventilation on 2 sides of the bathroom has now been completely closed in. The accusation that I go through the rooms every day is not true and I really do not how this guest feels she can make this statement, we only encounterd each other maybe 3 times in passing the entire 5 days that they stayed in our unit. We pride ourselves in giving our guests complete privacy. Concerning the hot tub after numerous service calls and expense before our guests arrived we were unable to get the hot tub in working order. We have since removed hot tub from our lisiting. The pool room is in the barn, the grill is on wheels, we offer parking right in front of the unit, there is a 1 mile trek out and back down the river during the summer months, there is a wonderful sunset and sunrise view from our property and we are not close to a highway, it is a 2 lane paved road that is a block away and has no adverse affects on our property. It is unfortunate that our guests felt the need to give us this bad review when they had ample opportunity in their 5 day stay to tell us of their unhappiness. As my husband likes to quote "Nobody hit's a home run every time at bat" and though this review makes us very sad we are happy to let all future travelers know that 99% of our guests are pleased with our accomodations. We believe in intergirity and we look forward to having you as our guests.

a very quiet and peaceful place to stay

I stay at the River house whenever I stay in the Corvallis area, which is 6/7 times a year. You can't find a more peaceful place to stay, you can sit and watch the river flow past, walk the river or back country roads, discuss the day with the owners or just sit and read a book or two. I would absolutley reccomend staying here and, in fact, have send a number of friends to stay there and everyone has thanked me upon returning for my reccomendation.

Aloha Kathy & Gregg, My wife and I really enjoyed our short visit(next time will be longer)at your cottage. It's so peacefull and quiet that we did not want to leave. Thank you for being so kind and helpful when we needed directions to Reser Stadium and other places in Corvalis. Although our Hawaii Warrior football team lost to your Oregon Beavers, we still enjoyed the Aloha spirit you showed to us and the people in Oregon are fantastic. We'll definitely be back for a longer vacation in the near future. Aloha & Mahalo, Jon & Yvonne
