The owners of the Eureka house at Mountain Village in Telluride, Colorado were kind and welcoming hosts during my visit to Telluride. Now I’m no superstar like Tom Cruise, Oprah, or some of the other Telluride locals but I can see why the celebrities love Telluride! It’s a small town full of friendly people from superstars to everyday folks who just want to get away in the mountains. Everyone seems to know each other and they make you feel like this is where you belong.
The Eureka house itself is a luxury home with everything you can think of. The cedar beams, stone hearths and wood floors make a mountain bear feel right at home. And beneath this Tyrollean lodge styled architecture are all the amenities to pamper a bear like me. It has a steam shower, jetted tubs, KitchenAid appliances, and radiant floor heat! If you need to adjust your bindings there is a work station in the large garage with tools to help you out. When I’m done skiing the mountain I can ride right down to the Eureka house, leave my boots in the mudroom and sit in the hot tub! From there on the top deck I can see most of the San Juan Mountain Range with jagged peaks and icy ridges. Then I can fall asleep in one of the master suites while snow falls outside the window and a fire burns in the hearth.
Telluride is surrounded by rugged 14,000 foot peaks. The people here call it “Little Switzerland” because it looks like the Alps – ahh, my kind of place! From town you can see Bridal Veil Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in the United States. Telluride Ski Resort boasts some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world. The lifts and gondola connect Mountain Village and downtown Telluride so that you can practically travel around town on your skis.
The Eureka house is just a five minute walk to Mountain Village where a quaint pedestrian hamlet has been built. It’s a little town of its own with shopping, fine dining, burger joints, parks, spas and more. It even has a grocery store. Or you can jump on the gondola that takes you right into downtown Telluride just a few minutes away. There are festivals in almost all seasons in the town of Telluride and Mountain Village. In the summer there is a festival almost every weekend!
So whether you’re a celebrity or just an average Joe looking for a mountain retreat, the Eureka house will make your stay perfect!

If you are loking for a home feeling on the mountain, and not a Hotel or Condo type experience, this is an excellent choice. I have been to several Colorado resorts, and this is the best house yet. Although not really Ski In/Ski Out unless you are an experienced skier (Snowboarding through the trees is practically impossible), it is nevertheless the most comfortable house I've stayed in. Given there are only really two levels, and yet plenty of space, it feels like a home. Views out the living room are phenomenal. Great fire places, ample kitchen, great bathrooms (master with Steam), Hot Tub an absolute must apres ski. Definitely recommend it.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I took our 3 kids to Telluride and rented this fabulous home. The 2 master suites are extraordinarly comfortable and the 3 kids had plenty of room in the downstairs bed rooms as well as the bed room in the loft where they watched TV and played pool. Great living space with TV and gas fire. The kitchen flows into the living space and has everything you need to prepare gourmet meals. The only thing better than this beautiful wood and stone interior is the view of the snow covered mountains. Great hot tub on the deck that was very very clean and we soaked up the views from the hot tub after a great day of skiing. Easy access to the slopes and the Free Ride service to the village was quick and curtious. I highly recommend this home if you are headed to Telluride.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We appreciate that our home is also loved by our guests.it suits both adults and children.

Beautiful house. Wonderfully maintained. All one could ask for. We had a blast. Very close to the gondola. No need for a car once you get there. Grocery store next to the gondola. Very convenient. This home is well-built and designed for groups travelling together who also want privacy. Both master suites have views of the mountains. Once we found the supply of linens (linens & towels for ALL beds and bathrooms are in the large linen closet downstairs) we had plenty of towels. One issue: the misunderstanding about who was to supply our toiletries & paper goods. Because there were some there to start with, we assumed they would be replenished as needed. As it turned out, it was not the responsibility of the maintenance company to bring us shampoo, toilet paper, etc., as we had experienced with other property companies in Telluride. That was fine with us, but would have been good to know ahead of time. It would have been much more economical to purchase supplies before we left home. Another issue: the sheets on one of the king beds didn't seem clean so we had to wash them & put them back on (hadn't found the downstairs linen closet at that point, which had clean sheets in it). This was a disappointing start to our trip, but things got better as the trip went on. There is a fireplace in one of the master bedrooms & one in the family room-something we Texans could never enjoy in August! The back deck is perfect, despite the fact that a monstrous condominium complex (still being built) is right below it. It hasn't stolen the view of the mountains, but feels a bit "in your face" & has hidden the land below the mountains. It is still being built which was quite noisy when we'd be sitting on the deck. Should be finished soon. It also hides the gondola, which is a fairly short walk away, and mostly downhill. The walk back is uphill but our hearts are healthier because of it. We are in our early 50's and could handle the walk, even carrying groceries. During ski season this house might be ski-in/out but there would be a short walk thru the woods. It really is a great location. All in all we had a terrific time fishing (you have to drive to fish, or you can fish in the town of Telluride by way of the gondola) and hiking. We also took a hair-raising jeep tour of Black Bear Pass. Very fun. The owners have been in contact with us and have apologized for the misunderstandings and sheets not being clean. They will probably request the maintenance company wash them twice next time! Although we tried not to use any of their pantry items, they were very kind about us using some of them. They're hospitable owners who are happy to make their guests feel at home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: we apologise that our housekeepers did not put out the toiletries that we make available for all guests. In relation to paper products, we do provide a supply of toilet paper, tissues and paper towel that we thought would be a sufficient supply. In general we find that our guests simply buy more of what they need at the market if they run out. We leave condiments, spices and many pantry items on the same basis. We are surprised about the comment concerning the master bed linen as we changed all the beds ourselves on the morning of arrival and freshly laundered sheets and pillow cases were used so no apology was necessary or given. We would NEVER have guests arrive to our home with dirty linen on the beds. We put 4 towels in each bathroom and extra towels in the bathroom vanities. The linen cupboard downstairs is easy to find and contains more towels and masses of linen for the beds if guests wish to change them during their stay. We also have a full laundry that allows guests to wash during their stay. The condo building below us was completed 2 years ago and our location is very quiet and peaceful. The photos on our listing of our view of the San Sophia Ridgeline have all been taken recently and the building below us does not detract from our magnificent view. Activies including hiking, biking and walking in the Rockies are always a challenge initially because of the altitude(almost 10,000 feet where our home is located) but Dial A Ride provides a free taxi service to and from the home to anywhere in Mountain Village including the supermarket and the gondola if the short walk is too challenging.

We stayed 5 days in late June to attend the Bluegrass festival -- the location*, views, amenities and luxury of the entire property was outstanding. It was roomy for 7 adults -- we're hoping to return w our little one next year. The photos make it look nice -- but it is really great, a real value during the summer. So much to do in town via free gondola, and nearer/walkable/bike-able on the mountain. Everyone who joined us loved the property and had a wonderful time. **One tip: During the summer there is a short-cut down the mountain to the gondola that makes it a 3-5 minute walk w stairs, versus about 10-15 on the road-- if you make friends with the neighbors, they'll let help you find it -- I can't imagine that it would work in the winter though (or late at night) ;-)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: the " short cut" path at the rear of Eureka is usually easy to locate in summer and can be walked of an evening if you take a torch.Better still just ring Dial a Ride for a free ride home to or from the Gondola at Town Hall.In winter the path is snow covered of course but serves as ski access to the Double Cabins ski trail as long as you are not a real novice. We aim to offer our guests affordable luxury in one of the world's greatest summer and winter mountain resort towns.

We loved our stay at "Eureka". It was a truly wonderful vacation for our family. Our 2 kids (10 & 8) loved the Gondola ride. We did also. It was such a convenient way to get around the area. We would take the Gondola to various locations and hike from there. We rarely used our car. The Gondola system is a free transportation system like no other we have experienced (and it is within a 5 minute walk from the house-- just take the trail (to the right) behind the house to get there). The views are amazing from the Gondola and from the house itself. The house had all the luxuries that someone could possibly want. A food market was just a 5 minute walk away also. One tip I would have about the market, is that if you are driving to this house, buy bottled water ahead of time. A 24 pack of Aquafina at the market was $10....which is double what we pay at home. The other prices at the market were reasonable. We would definitely stay at "Eureka" again if we visit the Mountain Village/Telluride Area. John and Catherine were excellent hosts. They will provide all the information that you could need and more. Thanks for a great house to stay in on our vacation! The Barry'sOwner response: we love to share our home with kind people that enjoy it and Telluride as much as we do.

This place blew our socks off. Best place we ever rented for skiing. A. Location - Simply great. We parked our cars and forgot about them. It is just a short walk to a ski trail. The gondola station is near by, and a supermarket is right next to it. B. House - It was clean and well furnished. Kitchen was the best of them all. A bath tub and a grill are on a huge outdoor deck. Bedrooms, closets, laundry room, bathrooms, etc... all you need. C. Panoramic view out of the main window - You have go and see it for yourself. You won't be disappointed. We enjoyed the place. It has everything and provides much needed comfort, so one can save all energy for skiing or whatever else Telluride has in store for adventurers. Actually, I caught myself thinking about how'd be to stay there in the summer... Great place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
