I brought a group of guys from our college ministry here for a one night retreat, and we had a blast. We were looking for something quiet and peaceful, and we got just that. A few of the guys really enjoyed fishing from the boat ramp, we grilled some great burgers, played guitar out on the porch, and watched the Memphis Grizzlies game inside. We met Maggie the Goose and fed her a lot. She was one of the guys for the weekend. Wish we could have stayed longer! This is a great place for any group looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat from everyday life.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family of three recently had the pleasure of staying in this isolated home situated perfectly on the Cumberland River. What a treat for our nature loving family! Pictures do not do this home justice--it is roomy, comfortable and very clean. The kitchen was perfectly stocked--and, we love to do our own cooking on vacation. Porch/deck overlooks river. We had hoped to spend more time there, but it was still "winter" when we were there. Fortunately for us, there was a firepit area, also overlooking the river. Therefore we spent time there warming up in between out-of-doors activities, such as fishing, walking/hiking and feeding the goose popcorn! In fact, we loved this relaxing and comfortable home, we added another day to our stay as one was available. We will definitely return to this cozy home!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: It is so pleasing to us to have guests that appreciate our Cabin on the Cumberland and find it to be a restful and peaceful spot as we have always found it. So glad to have a place to retreat and "let the rest of the world go by" for a little while.

This was our time at the cabin and we found the perfect getaway for our family of 6. The cabin is beautiful, fully stocked with the items we needed and spotless. It was a great place to relax and read a book with my daughter while the boys fished. The long driveway was perfect for bicycles and morning family walk. Maggie, the goose, loved my husband and was always close by him. The location was perfect for us to take day trips to visit an Amish community, visit Mammoth Caves, and do some fishing at Dale Hollow lake. This was our first trip to the area and we totally fell in love with the cabin and community. We got to see a variety of different birds and a deer as well while we were there. It was also nice to have puzzles, games and magazines handy for the one day that we had some rainy weather. Thank you for a wonderful spring break- I hope we can come back really soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So pleased to have a family enjoy the peaceful, beautiful spot on the Cumberland for a lovely week's vacation, and also to be anxious to come again.

Our second visit and it was as enjoyable as the last. Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings. And yes the oven can cook a 16# turkey and green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole at the same time. If you visit bring bread and popcorn for Maggie...HE nags in the morning. Will be back in May for a week.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We love to know that folks enjoy their visit to our Cabin on the Cumberland, especially when they choose to spend a holiday weekend there. We will be glad to have you come again in the spring. It is so very nice to have guests return.

The cabin is excellent. Fishing off the boat ramp was rough, wish we brought our boat. Our boat has a trolling motor only and we weren't sure about the water level and current. Maggie, the goose was fun too. The area is beautiful and relaxing.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+.

We had a great time at the Cabin, and can't wait to get back. The facility is so nice, and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans etc. The house was as clean as my personal home, and the caretakers Johnny and Jo Ann are pleasant and wonderful people. At the time of our visit the fish were all in the river behind the house, so we never had to go far to catch any. We are coming back just as soon as we can book our next outing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: It always wonderful to have folks who stay at our cabin to have a great visit there. It's especially nice when the fish are cooperative and visitors are able to catch them. So glad also when folks plan to return.

We LOVED this house on the river! The pics here really do not do it any justice! It was spotless, the neighbors were friendly (when you saw them), there's a goose to keep you company while fishing and the view just can't be beaten. We saw all kinds of birds, deer, turkey and even a beaver. We'll definitely be back as soon as we can! A few tips: stop at Stink Bait on the corner of 61. Great guy and will help in any way he can. Prep any food you can before you get there. The kitchen is awesome and well-stocked but any time you spend in there you'll wish you'd been able to spend outside!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Folks who visit this cabin always seem to love this peaceful spot on the Cumberland River. We have been blessed with much wildlife and birds and with the natural beauty that lies within this restful vacation cabin and the land on which it lies. We are also extremely pleased to have a wonderful family for Cabin Keepers who take much pride in this cabin and treat it as if it were their very own.

About the owner: We're well into those 'golden years' and way back when I was a high school educator and coach I longed for that fantastic fishing hole - you know, that secret place you knew when you were a kid. After long searching we found it and built it as our intended full time refuge. I know you'll love it just as we do. Only wish we could spend more time here!
Why the Owner Chose Burkesville:
Today even the 'so called' pristine spots are pretty well developed. That's fine and there is plenty of that within 10 to 30 miles, but what we really wanted was a great fishing retreat far away where the fish are big, bite obligingly, and the birds and deer share life right up to the doorstep. We're blessed and believe you'll feel the same.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Nothing says wilderness like riding the only free public ferry in Kentucky as you cross to this quiet place of refuge. The river murmurs just outside your door, a constant companion and, on those misty mornings you look out on the fish jumping in the golden light of dawn. It's not heaven, but you can see heaven from here!
