Owner Description

We're well into those 'golden years' and way back when I was a high school educator and coach I longed for that fantastic fishing hole - you know, that secret place you knew when you were a kid. After long searching we found it and built it as our intended full time refuge. I know you'll love it just as we do. Only wish we could spend more time here!
Why the Owner Chose Burkesville
Today even the 'so called' pristine spots are pretty well developed. That's fine and there is plenty of that within 10 to 30 miles, but what we really wanted was a great fishing retreat far away where the fish are big, bite obligingly, and the birds and deer share life right up to the doorstep. We're blessed and believe you'll feel the same.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Nothing says wilderness like riding the only free public ferry in Kentucky as you cross to this quiet place of refuge. The river murmurs just outside your door, a constant companion and, on those misty mornings you look out on the fish jumping in the golden light of dawn. It's not heaven, but you can see heaven from here!

Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us. This is just what our family needed. Your cabin was so nice. I can see why you and your husband loved this place so much. I saw your late husband's fishing shoes nailed up on the front porch, and after reading the newspaper article,i sat and thought this is how special memories are preserved. Your cabin left my family and i with a great memory that cannot be taken awy. Again we thank you, and would love to come back and stay longer. Johnny Hortenbury and Family Taylorsville,Ky

This is a really wonderful and beautiful cabin. The pictures really do not show how beautiful this cabin is! The view of the river can be seen from the great room and from the dining room table. The deck was nice and quiet and the geese that reside there greeted us every time we went out. The many bird feeders were a nice addition and the birds sang to us all day long. We did not catch any fish; the water was up a great deal and very swift but it was still beautiful. The owners and the care takers were very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a nice quite get away! Thank you!

This was exactly what we were looking for. Very private, no houses around and located at the end of your own private lane. Sitting on the big front porch watching the river float by. We didn't even care that it rained almost the whole time we were there. Waking up to thunderstorms was so cozy. The cabin was immaculate, the bedrooms were big and the living room/kitchen combo was a great place to hang out. The table (made out of a wooden door) sat in front of the french doors leading to the porch, where you were guarenteed a view as you ate. The wildlife was amazing. We saw deer, turkey, herons and geese. The bird feeders attracted all kinds of birds and the hummingbirds were everywhere. If you want a place to just get away this would be it. It is an unspoiled place. Just you and the river. Loved it!!
Owner response:We are so happy that you enjoyed all the animals and birds there at our Cabin on the Cumberland. It's always been so special to us to sit on the porch and watch the birds at the feeders and just enjoy the nature that God provides for our pleasure and enjoyment. It makes us very happy to see others having the same feelings that we have while there. It is such a restful, relaxing spot for anyone who wants to get away from their every-day life.

Stayed in the cabin Memorial Day weekend and had the best time. Everything needed was furnished. Had the most relaxing weekend that I have had in a long time. Very peaceful and private location. Just didn't get to fish cause the water was too high and river was to rapid. But didn't matter the location and atomsphere was awesome. Will definatley be back soon. Thanks to the Moss's for sharing their paradise on the river.

I stayed at the rental last weekend with 2 of my friends. The cabin was immaculate. It looked like it was just built and never occupied! Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Mattress on the king bed had to be very new. It was nice. The shower nozzle could have been better. Three ladies, all over 60, and we never did figure out how to work the DVD. Maybe a few instructions would help us old folks. But really, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and hope to return again very soon. It is worth the 3 hour drive from Louisville to sit back on the porch and relax and enjoy the days and evenings by the lake. Thank you, Mr and Mrs Ross for the pleasure of visiting your cabin.

We spend Labor Day weekend at this fish camp and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The cabin is neat, tidy and very secluded. The photos don't do it justice. Great view of the river from the deck. The boat ramp is very convenient. There's a charcoal grill off the deck and a fire pit down by the river. The hummingbirds provided tons of free entertainment!! Stargazing while listening to the owls can't be beat! If you're looking for total relaxation, peace and quiet this is the place. Once you get there, you'll feel right at home and won't want to leave. We will definitely stay at this cabin again! Highly recommended! Thanks!!
Owner response:Thanks so much for the kind words, you describe the place better than we do when we advertise it. It really saddens us to realize that because of age (78) and serious health problems we are probably going to have to sell the place. That will take away many of our most precious memories. Enjoy while you can.

I've stayed at this cabin three times now with a couple of fishing buddies and I have to tell you, we're spoiled for anything else! On site private boat ramp, deck overlooking the river, no site of other homes or civilization nearby, just perfect! Inside, the cabin is pristine and like new. Caretakers are the nicest folks, very helpful in every way. We'll definitely be back, and it sounds like now that my wife is reading this review, she'll be coming with me before too long!

This is such a beautiful and peaceful setting. If you want to be away from it all then this is the place to be. It was like having the river all to yourself. We only saw maybe five boats the whole time we were there. We didn't catch any fish but my husband said another fisherman told him we had the wrong bait. The cabin is nicely equipped with everything you need.

We loved this cabin. It was very clean, cheery and peaceful, and our family of six slept comfortably. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and wonderful to work with.
Owner response:We hope all you guys (and gals) realize that the next 3 months are fantastic fishing months and the birds and blossoms will really be showing off. We now have 10 bikes of assorted sizes for your use on Blacks Ferry Road which dead ends about 2 miles up stream.
