Amazing weekend getaway!

We LOVED this house on the river! The pics here really do not do it any justice! It was spotless, the neighbors were friendly (when you saw them), there's a goose to keep you company while fishing and the view just can't be beaten. We saw all kinds of birds, deer, turkey and even a beaver. We'll definitely be back as soon as we can! A few tips: stop at Stink Bait on the corner of 61. Great guy and will help in any way he can. Prep any food you can before you get there. The kitchen is awesome and well-stocked but any time you spend in there you'll wish you'd been able to spend outside!

Owner response:Folks who visit this cabin always seem to love this peaceful spot on the Cumberland River. We have been blessed with much wildlife and birds and with the natural beauty that lies within this restful vacation cabin and the land on which it lies. We are also extremely pleased to have a wonderful family for Cabin Keepers who take much pride in this cabin and treat it as if it were their very own.

Peaceful Retreat

This was our second trip to the little cabin on the river. And once again it was great. My husband and I went the first time in November and couldn't wait to come back when the weather was a little warmer. This time we shared our experience with our family. We fished a lot and although we didn't catch much it was so beautiful we didn't care. We cooked out, sat by the camp fire and enjoyed visiting with one another. So relaxing and peaceful. The cabin is very secluded with a beautiful view of the river. Nothing better than a cup of coffee and enjoying the sun rise each morning while looking over the river from the deck. Thank you for sharing your little peace of heaven on Earth with us. We'll be back!

Owner response:It's really special to have other folks enjoy our Cabin on the Cumberland as much as we did. Our renters always seem to enjoy the quietness and peacefulness of our secluded spot on the beautiful river. We are also so happy to have our wonderful Cabin Keepers who always take great care of the cabin and the guests. They are really special people and have been a gift from God for us and the cabin.

Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us. This is just what our family needed. Your cabin was so nice. I can see why you and your husband loved this place so much. I saw your late husband's fishing shoes nailed up on the front porch, and after reading the newspaper article,i sat and thought this is how special memories are preserved. Your cabin left my family and i with a great memory that cannot be taken awy. Again we thank you, and would love to come back and stay longer. Johnny Hortenbury and Family Taylorsville,Ky

Owner response:To renters interested in coming to our cabin for a respite, this Review should help you to decide where to spend a restful, relaxing and enjoyable vacation for the whole family. Also, you may be the one who catches a beautiful fish at the same time. If you love animals and are a bird watcher, you will certainly love our cabin on the Cumberland.

Great cabin!

This is a really wonderful and beautiful cabin. The pictures really do not show how beautiful this cabin is! The view of the river can be seen from the great room and from the dining room table. The deck was nice and quiet and the geese that reside there greeted us every time we went out. The many bird feeders were a nice addition and the birds sang to us all day long. We did not catch any fish; the water was up a great deal and very swift but it was still beautiful. The owners and the care takers were very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a nice quite get away! Thank you!

Charming, Private and so Very Peaceful

This was exactly what we were looking for. Very private, no houses around and located at the end of your own private lane. Sitting on the big front porch watching the river float by. We didn't even care that it rained almost the whole time we were there. Waking up to thunderstorms was so cozy. The cabin was immaculate, the bedrooms were big and the living room/kitchen combo was a great place to hang out. The table (made out of a wooden door) sat in front of the french doors leading to the porch, where you were guarenteed a view as you ate. The wildlife was amazing. We saw deer, turkey, herons and geese. The bird feeders attracted all kinds of birds and the hummingbirds were everywhere. If you want a place to just get away this would be it. It is an unspoiled place. Just you and the river. Loved it!!

Owner response:We are so happy that you enjoyed all the animals and birds there at our Cabin on the Cumberland. It's always been so special to us to sit on the porch and watch the birds at the feeders and just enjoy the nature that God provides for our pleasure and enjoyment. It makes us very happy to see others having the same feelings that we have while there. It is such a restful, relaxing spot for anyone who wants to get away from their every-day life.

Stayed in the cabin Memorial Day weekend and had the best time. Everything needed was furnished. Had the most relaxing weekend that I have had in a long time. Very peaceful and private location. Just didn't get to fish cause the water was too high and river was to rapid. But didn't matter the location and atomsphere was awesome. Will definatley be back soon. Thanks to the Moss's for sharing their paradise on the river.

cabin by the lake

Guest: Marie (Louisville, KY)
Date of Stay: 05/20/11 Review Submitted: 05/24/11

I stayed at the rental last weekend with 2 of my friends. The cabin was immaculate. It looked like it was just built and never occupied! Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Mattress on the king bed had to be very new. It was nice. The shower nozzle could have been better. Three ladies, all over 60, and we never did figure out how to work the DVD. Maybe a few instructions would help us old folks. But really, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and hope to return again very soon. It is worth the 3 hour drive from Louisville to sit back on the porch and relax and enjoy the days and evenings by the lake. Thank you, Mr and Mrs Ross for the pleasure of visiting your cabin.

Totally Relaxed and Rejuvenated!

We spend Labor Day weekend at this fish camp and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The cabin is neat, tidy and very secluded. The photos don't do it justice. Great view of the river from the deck. The boat ramp is very convenient. There's a charcoal grill off the deck and a fire pit down by the river. The hummingbirds provided tons of free entertainment!! Stargazing while listening to the owls can't be beat! If you're looking for total relaxation, peace and quiet this is the place. Once you get there, you'll feel right at home and won't want to leave. We will definitely stay at this cabin again! Highly recommended! Thanks!!

Owner response:Thanks so much for the kind words, you describe the place better than we do when we advertise it. It really saddens us to realize that because of age (78) and serious health problems we are probably going to have to sell the place. That will take away many of our most precious memories. Enjoy while you can.

I've stayed at this cabin three times now with a couple of fishing buddies and I have to tell you, we're spoiled for anything else! On site private boat ramp, deck overlooking the river, no site of other homes or civilization nearby, just perfect! Inside, the cabin is pristine and like new. Caretakers are the nicest folks, very helpful in every way. We'll definitely be back, and it sounds like now that my wife is reading this review, she'll be coming with me before too long!

This is such a beautiful and peaceful setting. If you want to be away from it all then this is the place to be. It was like having the river all to yourself. We only saw maybe five boats the whole time we were there. We didn't catch any fish but my husband said another fisherman told him we had the wrong bait. The cabin is nicely equipped with everything you need.

We loved this cabin. It was very clean, cheery and peaceful, and our family of six slept comfortably. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and wonderful to work with.

Owner response:We hope all you guys (and gals) realize that the next 3 months are fantastic fishing months and the birds and blossoms will really be showing off. We now have 10 bikes of assorted sizes for your use on Blacks Ferry Road which dead ends about 2 miles up stream.

Absolutely first-rate accomodations in a secluded setting on the Cumberland River. Can't wait to return for more fishing and another view of those marvelous cliffs. Even if the fish aren't biting, you'll need extra film for the camera as the wildlife is outstanding.

We enjoyed the stay on the Cumberland River. The cabin was clean and very secluded. The fishing wasn't good, because the river was really swift.Other than that we had a good time.

Owner response:This followed heavy rains and the "swift" was less than 4MPH. The river was back to normal within 3 days. RHM

We were fortunate to find this rental on the Cumberland River. Loved the ferry ride across the Cumberland - sure beats interestates and turnpikes. Counted nine deer out in a field one morning, and an endless variety of birds flying into the feeders on the balcony overlooking the river - my personal favorites, hummingbirds and cardinals. My fisherman-husband was absolutely in heaven and loves to show off his pictures of the 27 inch brown trout caught at the end of the boat ramp, just a few steps right out the kitchen door. The peace, quiet, and privacy is beyond compare. We were comfortable and cozy. We have found a new vacation destination and can't wait to go back soon. It was definitely a memorable vacation.
