We stayed here for five nights and had a fantastic time. The apartment is *exactly* as described and pictured, and is immaculate. We found it comfortable and lovely, and felt immediately at home. Carola met us upon arrival and was friendly and extremely helpful in pointing us to local attractions. Her shelf of travel books and maps helped as well. She had kindly stocked the refrigerator with a few items that helped get us going and added to the extra feeling of welcome. The location is fantastic--truly almost everything we wanted to do was within walking distance, including the beaches and many of the main sights of the city. We loved the three different small balconies, each with its own beautiful view. Yes, there are a few stairs to climb, but we got used to that quickly and only really noticed it the first night when we had suitcases. Thanks for a great stay, Carola!

Our 12 day stay at this charming apartment was wonderful. The pictures are very accurate, it was clean and Carola was wonderful...she was full of info on Barcelona and surrounding area and thanks to her we went to Sitges, Mt Serrat and other day trips as well as exploring all areas in Barcelona. The location was great we walked almost everywhere and transit in Barcelona is great and close by. My only complaint would have been the mattress but when you are travelling it's not like home and we made out fine. You have to be able to climb stairs at this apartment but that allows you to eat all the great food there right? Next door to the apartment is a small grocery store, restaurants and bakery's on every corner and we always found what we needed within walking distance. We will recomend this apartment to friends who are travel buffs for sure.
Owner response:For our future guests, there is a new mattress!!! (15 May)

We stayed at this lovely apartment on our first trip to Barcelona last fall. The apartment is in a fantastic location and we walked everywhere and never needed a car. The apartment was well-equiped, very comfortable, clean and pretty. You are close to other buildings but the trees make the apartment very private. There were a lot of nice homey (useful) touches like books, games, umbrellas, and tea. Staying here made us feel like locals - although I'm sure we weren't fooling anyone. As others have noted, the stairs are very steep and narrow - we were glad we had packed light. The park is nearby and there was an event on Saturday that involved drums and fireworks for about 8 hours. (What else to do but go join the fun!) Otherwise, it was very quiet the rest of our stay. The balconies and the ability to open the doors to the outside were wonderful bonuses. I highly recommend this wonderful property if you are looking for a true home away from home. Thank you Carola! We hope to be back soon!

My wife and I rented this apartment in order to try to live like Barcelona "residents" for 10 days. The apartment was accurately described and represented by the photos. We got our daily exercise climbing up and down the many steps to the apartment - something to consider if you have problems climbing stairs but not a problem for us. The apartment was clean, well furnished, and felt safe and secure. The Parc de la Ciutadella nearby can be noisy when events are going on, but again - part of the experience! The three large window/doors that open to the balconies are really nice. The convenience shop downstairs was handy, but there are wine shops, pastry shops, and other grocery stores in the neighborhood. We walked to the Montecado Street area frequently for dinner. We highly recommend the apartment and so much is within walking distance. We didn't even need the Metro until several days into our trip, but the nearest Metro station is only about 5 minutes away. The only improvement would be the main bedroom mattress, which was a bit thin for us - but mattresses are such a personal choice. There was a washer in the apartment which was great, plus cleaning supplies and things to make tidying up easy at the end. Our cleaning deposit was promptly returned. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you!

This was my first trip to Barcelona and I wanted a local experience - this apartment fit the bill! Cozy, charming, and filled with lots of natural light. Be aware that the climb to the apt is not for the faint-hearted or travelers with heavy suitcases. Pack light and get ready to deal with a 4-flight walk up. Having said that, I will definitely stay here again - close to the Metro, walking distance to beach, Barri Gothic, and other tourist spots - also easy to catch a cab from here. Bed is a little on the hard side but otherwise, loved it!

We had a lovely two-week stay in this charming apartment. The apartment had everything we needed and was full of character. We loved the neighborhood, and enjoyed the convenience of the convenience shop and restaurant on the ground floor. The apartment was well situated, allowing us to walk to all the sights, including the beach. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting unique accommodation that gives the comfort of home away from home.

My family of 3 stayed here the week of July 30 and had a great time. The apartment is very homey and comfortable- pictures are quite accurate I think- and the location is just perfect. We have a 4 yr old and it was really handy to be so central so that we could get back for a siesta everyday; she was able to handle the stairs with no problem. There are great tapas bars within walking distance, as well as a traditional market, playgrounds, etc. We would definately stay here again next time we come to Barcelona. The owner is very sweet and helped orient us and give us sightseeing ideas (she also has a nice collection of books that are written in or about Barcelona which I thought was a really nice touch!). Just a few things to note: - there is no wifi in the apartment and the public access is spotty. You have to go across the street to a cafe to connect - the mattress is a little soft (or maybe it was the pillows). If you have a bad back you might want to check with her Outside of those two small things it was a highly recommended base to explore this great city.

The location is perfect for travellers who want an interesting and quiet neighbourhood that is within easy distance of many of the sights. The near by metro stop gets you to everywhere beyond walking distance. The park near the apartment is wonderful for morning and evening strolls - Sunday afternoon it hummed with activity and was a great place to people watch. There are many great restaurants just down the street - try Mosquito for interesting dumplings, Alta Italia for excellent Italian meals, Masqaudis (wifi) for snacks and wine. The apartment is roomy and the large doors that open up onto small terraces make it a very pleasant setting for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The kitchen is well stocked. The bedroom is large with yet another door that opens up onto a terrace. The apartment is very quiet at night. The design details in the apartment really made it special. The antique light fixtures, wooden furniture, tiled floors and wooden ceiling beams work together to create a unique and very cool space, I really liked the retro wall paper in the bedroom and the flower pictures hanging on the living room and bedroom walls. The apartment is very well managed by Carola. She is organized and informative and always returned e-mails promptly. She also has stocked the apartment with some fine fiction set in Barcelona - reading fiction set in the city you are visiting is always enjoyable. This place is one of the best rentals we have found in our many travels.

The stay in this apartment was great. It is located right beside the park and the park is visible from the balconies. On one day, the parrots were actually on the roof of the building. The apartment is also located to nice attractions and metro and train (renfe) options. On the ground floor of the building is a great store/tienda/supermercat and a cafe, both of which have very nice and friendly staff. At this time, the internet cafe is not there, but there is one close by and the owner provided details on where it was. Owner was fabulous about orienting to the city, and the apartment has a plethora of books and maps in it. Uncertain at first of how to pay remainder of apartment rental, and the owner helped with that and it went very well. If you aren't sure suggest asking ahead about this to make sure you understand your next steps in paying the remainder. Damage deposit was returned promptly. Due to the stairs, cannot recommend for all travelers. (The stairs are included in the listing.) Of note, for this trip, Champions League final occurred. This apartment was perfect for this since the match was broadcast in the park right near the apartment!

The location and amenities of this apartment were just perfect for us. On the edge of the Old Town area of Barcelona, a number of cafes, bakeries and restaurants were a block or two away, with other sites like the Picasso Museum perhaps a 10 minute walk and Las Ramblas maybe a nice 20 minute walk. The beaches are a bit further, perhaps a mile, but a nice walk none-the-less. We walked everywhere and did not have or need a car. The owner, Carola, is great and could not have been more gracious and helpful. The pictures of the apartment are very good and descriptive - it looks just like that. It is very clean and well maintained and had everything that we needed for week's stay. My wife, Joni's comments follow: Crossing the threshold into this light-filled, well-situated apartment, we knew we were in Spain! The tiled kitchen and bath, the floor–to-ceiling shuttered windows, the little balconies with a birdseye view of the corner café and Parc de la Ciutadella all said: “You’re not in the U.S. any more.” We did not understand when we booked that this is the perfect location, but felt extremely lucky to have such a central home base. We walked to the beaches at Port Olimpic, the Sagrada Familia, the Picasso Museum, La Rambla, and the funicular to Montjuic. None of the walks were taxing, but together, they burned enough calories that we lost a few pounds, despite the first and second breakfasts, lunch, dinner, tea, supper and cava sangria breaks we took daily in the many wonderful restaurants, cafes and cervecerias. Directly across the street from the apartment, the Parc de la Ciutadella was the spectacular setting for my daily runs and would be fabulous for a family with young children to run off a little energy. Carola couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. She gave us a heads up on transportation from the airport, gave a great overview of Barcelona life when we checked in and turned us onto another of her apartments in the beautiful beach town of Sitges, just a 40 minute train ride from Estacio Franca, which is also a short, easy walk, even with overpacked suitcases. We wouldn’t have gone to Sitges without Carola’s recommendation, but we are so glad we did will not come back to Barcelona without at least a few days there, as well.

The apartment in the Born/Ribera area was a cozy and comfortable stay! Close to the Picasso Museum, Plaza Catalunya, Palau de Musica Catalan and, of course, the Chocolate Museum. We walked these streets many times over only to find a new experience/sight at every turn. Great place to rest up for your next adventure! Carola was most helpful with directions and local fare.

My sister and I stayed in Carola's apartment for two weeks in April 2011; it was perfect for us. The apt was as advertised; clean, excellent location, nice view, and very close to attractions. I would stay again and recommend this property to family or friends. The apartment is on a corner; we had a good view of the park and down the quaint street. During summer when the trees are full, you may not be able to see the view but there are parrots. Carola was very helpful and friendly. She provided lots of ideas and directions in addition to pointing us to our favorite daily restaurant. Everything was easily available. Bakery and grocery shops down the street. Nice restaurants abound. The metro is a coupld of blocks away. The beach, Las Ramblas, shopping, many sights, and other are within easy walking. For us, it couldn't have been better. If you want to use the DVD player you need to fiddle with all the cables. It took us a while but it works. Enjoy!

It was such a joy to wake up and open the doors to the lovely balconies, return home for a siesta, and enjoy meals and relaxing in "our own little place". Carola is wonderful, helpful, and a great source of information. A wonderful way to be at home in beautiful Barcelona. We loved it.

Transportation is also very close, so it is easy to get to any part of the city or out of town. Has old world charm with original woodwork and tiles. Carola is a great lady and was very helpful. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay in Barcelona at Carola's apartment. Her description's of the apartment are very accurate and she was very quick to answer questions via emial, all in all a pleasure to work with. The flat is small compared to US standards, but very moderate for Europe. It is very clean and has beautiful antique chandeliers in some of the rooms. The one thing to note is that the bed has a very hard mattress, but that would be the only down side about the apartment. The best part is how close it is to the heart of the city. You can walk to Las Ramblas in 15 minutes or less, wander the narrow streets of the Barri Gotic or El Born parts of the city in under 10. There are a great variety of very good to great restaurants nearby (we enjoyed Cal Pep and Sagardi, for those of you molecular gastronomy lovers Comerc 24 is just on the next block over) as well as shops, bars, and museums. This is a great place for those of you wanting an introduction to the best of Barcelona or for any adventure travelers looking to make their own agenda. I would highly recommend Carola's lovely apartment to anyone.

One of the best things about this trip (my 3rd to this lovely city) was the apartment. It's homey, cozy, and clean, and the location is perfect for anywhere you want to get to. Carola is friendly and very accommodating - she even ran out to replace the missing coffee maker when I arrived - I absolutely had to have morning coffee on the sunny kitchen balcony overlooking the trees. One night, Barcelona friends came for dinner and fell in love with the place - I didn't hesitate to encourage them to recommend it to other friends and family who might visit. The apartment is pretty perfect and really enhanced my trip.

This clean, quaint apartment is accurately portrayed in the photos. We loved the location and quickly became familiar with the old city. The cafe on the ground level (Rincon De Galicia) or Bochamel on Carrer del Commerce are both good places to start your day. Check out the creative jewellery shop at Portal Nou 7. Explore the many plazas for your lunch and dinner. We recommend Joanet, Mercat de Santa Caterina , Pizza Concept (at Pl.Sant Cugat), Bilbao Berria (bustling tapas at Placa Nova 3). Do walk to the beautiful Palau Musica Catalana for a day tour or a night performance. Walk to the Picasso Museum and then visit the tapas bar, El Xampanyet. Walk to the Barcelona cathedral and then board the Tourist bus. So convenient! We ended our days with candlelight and cava by the open balcony windows listening to the sounds of the Barcelona night. Walking up the stairs to the apartment was good exercise but if you are carrying heavy luggage, it will be strenuous.

We enjoyed our week in Barcelona. This apartment is in a great locatation within easy walking distances to museams and varied dining. We easily walked back and forth to the Ramblas. The apartment is not fancy but was clean. Carola was very helpful and available. The only drawback was the 62 steps up to the apartment with no lift so would not be a good choice for anyone with mobility issues.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Barcelona, and in Carola's charming little apartment. Location was fabulous, right in an older and established neighbourhood with lots of local flavour and charm. Mini markets were close by, Internet cafe within steps, several restaurants and bars, and a great gelato place. What major attractions were not in walking distance, we used Barcelona's extensive and easy-to-use public transport system, which is just minutes away from the apartment. The city beaches were close by as well. For two people, the apartment is just the right size and has all the amenities needed. Carola is wonderful, and very accomodating. Enjoy your time in Barcelona, and enjoy your time in this apartment.

Barcelona is a continually surprising, beautiful city; and this apartment provides a wonderful base from which to explore and experience it. The owners’ descriptions of the apartment are accurate. The enthusiastic comments of other travelers who have stayed there are well warranted! We found that communication with the owners was easy –by e-mail and by telephone from Toronto, from Paris (when we were delayed there), and in Barcelona; any questions and problems we had were quickly dealt with. I can add some particular enthusiastic comments of my own: the apartment is within easy walking distance from -or a short subway ride to –most of the places a visitor would want to see on a first (and subsequent) trips to Barcelona. It is situated on the edge of the maze of little streets that make up the oldest part of the town, but being on the edge and looking out towards the Ciutadella Park it does not feel confined. The nearby Santa Caterina market has wonderful local cheeses, hams, and prepared foods; vendors were happy (indeed proud) to guide us to the best produce they had, local or imported. (We lunched on food from the market in the apartment on most days during the two weeks we were there.) And the streets in the vicinity of the apartment are filled with very good restaurants and tapas bars. The food is reasonably priced; the Catalan wines are excellent and cheap (and the advice given by waiters proved very helpful). A special thanks to Carmen, who received us late, after we missed our connection in Paris, and who checked us out very early on the day of our departure. People contemplating staying here need to bear in mind that three flights of stairs lead to this lovely apartment (and the stairs on the top flight are probably 3 cm higher than on the bottom two flights). It would be helpful if the owners could provide a better map of the apartment location on the website, along with some directions –we had trouble finding it the first time; others might too.

Not for the trendy style seeker, more for the adventurous traveler who wants to get away, to find a bit less touristy perspective on Barcelona (if that's ever possible). It does allow you to feel like you've got a window into a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a very long history. If you want to use public transportation, or walk the city; the location can't be beat. If you want to feel a bit of a part of a living neighborhood you've got the opportunity. If you need modern high style, an in flat wifi connection, or can't handle a four floor walk up this is not the place for you. My partner and I stayed here for just over a week to celebrate our 30th anniversary just before Easter and thought it was a wonderfully funky nest in the city. It has a usable kitchen if you want to fix something in, a washer should you need one, and a serviceable bed in the main bedroom-- we never broke out the hide-a-bed in the living room sofa. We both loved the old style tile work throughout. There are piles of tourist information available if you didn't do your own research ahead of time, and the owner is a good and enthusiastic resource who will try and answer your most off the wall information requests with grace and care. The photos represent the space well with minimal positive spin, it's certainly clean and maintained, but it also maintains it's 1890's old style amenities like the wood and iron window/doors which provide the strong character statement and delightful light. It's secure and safe to navigate to late at night. If you're a bit independent and DIY, it's a great space for a longer stay. Probably best for a single or couple. you could put in a third or a fourth but the space would be pretty tight unless everyone was traveling very light.

Fantastic Apartment in an amazing area! We stayed here in September, 2009. It was our first experience using a rental apartment, and we don't regret it. The apartment itself is gorgeous, with all the amenities you need. The view of the park and the old streets from the walk-out windows is fantastic. The area is safe, and we spent so much time just exploring the old streets and all the fantastic sites and places to eat nearby. It is a big hike up the stairs, but worth it. Carola was very helpful and accommodating.

My sister and I stayed at this charming apartment in February 2009. For starters, it must have the BEST location in the whole of Barcelona! Turn right and you're in the old town with its quaint cobbled streets and lots of attractive shops, cafes and restaurants; turn left and you're in the new town with wide tree-lined avenues, the Arco de Trionfo and the Ciutadela park. The apartment has been lovingly restored, with many original features. It also has all mod cons of course! I particularly liked the large windows which give lots of light. I would certainly recommend this apartment and would love to stay there again! Oh, and Carole is very helpful, multi-lingual and very pleasant to deal with.
