We have one day to go in a wonderful two month vacation here at Makaha Shores and we have to say--WE ARE GONNA MISS THIS PLACE! The condo is just as described and as pictured on the website. It is laid out well and has new appliances, cabinets and counters and is very clean. All the dishes, silverware and pots and pans are here so you are able to enjoy meals out on your lanai which has a KILLER VIEW! You can also grill your meal on the property just past the swimming pool. The king size bed is just the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep on and laundry facilities are only downstairs. We had the best times, mornings, noons and evenings with beautiful waves practically below our feet. You are "in the bowl" of the surfing beach and the entertainment is endless, whether you are the surfer or choose to cheer them on from your lanai--and all for such an incredible price. We have vacationed in Hawaii since the 70's and though we were able to stay in some very high end units--this was our favorite--coming back here will, for us, be like coming home. Two things we want to add: First, the owner will get back to you right away. We hate it when we can't plan anything because the owner never responds and this owner lives on this island and always will help with anything you need. And second, we just want to say that the people of Makaha and Waianae are some of the nicest, kindest people we have met anywhere and we have traveled a lot. We believe in treating people as we would wish to be treated and the people here always seemed to do us one better. We really enjoyed going to the Sunset Grill at the Army Rec Post --there's music on the weekends, beautiful sunsets as we sit right on the water--also has one of the calmest beach areas to swim in. We also like Tacos and More--music on the weekends and friendly staff and customers. For longer trips, Kapolei has the big box stores and lots of places to eat and a movie theatre, all in all, a quick, easy drive without having to get on a freeway. So, we are off to Alaska tomorrow, but we will be thinking and talking about Makaha all summer and reliving all our favorite stories! G&JRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have enjoyed this condo many times since we first found this location in 1985. This year, 2011, we stayed for the month of December. The unit is on the ocean side of the building and is well equipped with a very comfortable king size bed. We like to spend our mornings on the lanai enjoying breakfast and watching the surfers, dive boats and whales and dolphins. Then off to the beach for the afternoon swimming in the amazingly warm ocean and playing in the surf. We enjoy watching the Hawaiian familys with the little ones as young as 3 learning to surf - no fear. The building and suite are very well maintained with a heated swimming pool as a bonus. We often would use the briquette barbeque to cook our dinner. Saturday morning is when the market is open at the local High School - fresh produce and if you are lucky you can have pizza from a wood fired pizza oven. This location is away from the action but it is a short drive to the resorts at Ko Olina if you need the fancy restaurants. Thanks Jo - we had a great time and will be calling you for next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Loving this amazing spot! Yesterday after checking in I scored some of my best waves yet this surf season. Long smooth rights that seem to stand up in 3 spots down the line... FUN ! After a surf we went for a movie and came home to the peace of the ocean. This morning Im having coffee on the lanai Im just relaxing and watching my daughter and her buddy surf perfect glassy Makaha. I can take photos from the lanai of the surfers. .. Just beautiful and perfect . We slept well to the sound of the ocean in your lovely linens. Everything inside and out (Lanai) is new, clean, and wonderful. THANK YOU Jo AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and family ! JUST LOVING LIFE AND ENJOYING THE WEST SIDE.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is the quiet side of Oahu! Just the way we like it. The beach next door is excellent and you can watch surfers from your Liani. Everyone was very friendly and welcomed us to this slice of paradise. Its about a 45 minute drive to Pearl Harbor, but, worth the trip to be out of hectic Waikiki and Honolulu. Don't pass this one up.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Place is misrepresented in pictures looks like low income rental property. Ask for close ups of the property before you decide to stay here. There were needles on the property and the neighborhood is full of homeless people. We checked out 5 days early and owner refuses to respond to emails or give any partial refunds. BEWARE! Get travel insurance from vrbo.com if you decide to stay here because you might be disappointed.Owner response: I like my guests to enjoy their stay and I am very proud of the Hawaiian Ambiance.Mahalo

Aloha Jo Just a quick thank you note to let you know we really enjoyed our stay in Hawaii. Your condo was perfect for our needs. It was so nice to wake to all the surfers every morning. All the staff at Makaha Shores were very nice and treated us well. We met a few owners and enjoyed many conversations with them. We were able to visit most of the recommended tourist attractions on Oahu and would recommend an island vacation to anyone. We went by your home on the North Shore several times during our stay and wanted to stop by and introduce ourselves, but just couldn't find the time. MahaloDid you find this review helpful?
