Our 1-bedroom plus den unit in Kelowna’s newest premier resort sleeps 4 comfortably (one queen bed in the en-suite master bedroom and a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living area). Complete with all the amenities (including A/C, underground parking, washer and dryer, TVs in each room, gas BBQ on your private balcony with a view of Lake Okanagan), the condo is fully equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing stay.
The Playa del Sol resort (new in 2008) is a complete destination in itself. With a poolside courtyard featuring a swimming pool in an elevated courtyard overlooking Lake Okanagan, a hot tub and landscaped decks with sun chairs, you can get your summer tan without even leaving “home.” If you’re feeling the need for a little more activity, you can try out the fitness center with its treadmills, ellipticals and free weights and then work out the resulting kinks in the steam room. Or you can take the kids to the game room with pool tables, lounge chairs and a large screen TV. There’s even a restaurant on the premises for those nights you want to stay close to home but still don’t want to cook.
With all that the resort has to offer, you’ll have a hard time deciding whether to stay in or go out, but when you do go out, Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley offer a world of summer and winter activities. We are across the street from Rotary Beach, a sandy beach on the shores of Lake Okanagan, and a two-minute walk from the public marina. About a block away is a greenway that’s perfect for biking, walking, or running. For winter fun, we are within an hour’s drive of 3 major ski hills – Big White, Silver Star and Apex. And if golf’s your game, there are 40 golf courses within a 45-mile drive of the town. And what would a vacation to Kelowna be without a little wine tasting? Home to some of Canada’s premier wineries, the Okanagan Valley has long been known for its vineyards, many of which are within easy reach.
