This is a winner

Guest: HazeyBell (Durango, CO)
Date of Stay: 04/03/12 Review Submitted: 04/06/12

After staying at this property, I wanted to tell all my friends about it. Having all the water and beach toys is a real plus, and these aren't cheap, worn out toys. The locals were envious of the double kayak we put in the water at the famed snorkeling Kealakekua Bay, and Dave knew how to strap it on our little rental car with no problems. Beth takes pride in preparing the rental for each new arrival, and it's clean, real clean. The swimming pool is a real bonus. Many of the food staples are provided for cooking your meals at home, which is how it feels after just a couple of hours of being here. Beth & Dave are great people and you can tell they take great pride in their property.

Fantastic location, really comfortable and well presented accommodation and hosts who were just the best! Wish we could have stayed longer. Would stay at Beth's if we went back to the Big Island and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Absolutely Perfect!

Date of Stay: 02/23/12 Review Submitted: 04/02/12

This was the perfect location for our anniversary trip. We were welcomed with fresh fruit and wonderfully decorated and adorable accomodations. They had everything we needed! Beach chairs and snorkel gear, spices and olive oil, kayaks, and great CD's to listen to as we relaxed in the evening. It's only a short (5 minutes or less) drive to Two Step for snorkeling and we fell in love with the picnic area just beside the Place of Refuge. Dave was great about helping us put the kayak on the roof of the rental car and Beth was an amazing hostess - rescuing us from our mishap with our rental car. We felt like family! It was so quiet and peaceful at night! And we loved the little gecko's that shared the place with us! Now that we've toured the island - we're hoping to go back soon to just relax! Thanks Dave and Beth!

The place to stay if you want to visit the Captain Cook monument

Guest: Fierce Dinosaur (Sydney Australia)
Date of Stay: 02/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/02/12

We had two nights at Beth's - wonderful spacious self-contained garden flat. We borrowed the 2 person kyak and all the equipment needed from Dave, strapped it on the rental car and headed for the local kyak launching place where the locals help you put it in the water and get in it for a few dollars (very much worth it - the swell is daunting). Neither of us had ever been in a Kyak before, we are Aussies, one 65 and one 52. We got the hang of paddling in about 5 minutes, and paddled the couple of km across the bay to Capt Cook monument on the anniversary of his death 14th Feb - weird co-incidence. Snorkelling very good there, arrive before 9am and you beat the tourist boats. If you want to land you need a permit: I got ours by email a couple of weeks before we left Australia, otherwise, the local tour guide will stop you landing. Beware that Monday nights none of the local restaurants are open; we spent a lot of time driving up and down getting hungry. Ask Beth and Dave if unsure. Bed is a bit saggy, and room could be hot in summer, but otherwise perfect for the price. Lots of lovely decorations, great books, local history and guides. Close to the National Park with all the traditional Hawaiian carvings, temples, houses, boats, etc - excellent place. Our favourite thing was the "attack gekko" in the kitchen... to find out what that means you will just have to stay there!!! Claire & Dave, Sydney, Australia.

Exceeded My High Expectations

Guest: Bee (Edmonds, WA)
Date of Stay: 11/24/11 Review Submitted: 12/07/11

I had high expectations because of all the good reviews, but this place actually surpassed those expectations. We had a wonderful week-long stay, and we're already planning our return. Beth and Dave are delightful hosts, and their rental units are attractive and comfortable. Rather than repeat all the glowing comments made in other reviews, I'll add a couple of observations. Beth's standard of clean is higher than anything I've ever experienced in a vacation rental. For example, she washes all the blankets and bedspreads between every stay. No cooties in this place! All the furniture was extremely comfortable, including the bed. As far as amenities go, this place had things I didn't even know I needed, until I needed them. Things like a first aid kit. A whistling tea kettle. An iPod dock. Lots of good books, CDs, and DVDs. All the comforts of home (but cleaner!). The location was great. We spent most of our time at Two Steps and the Place of Refuge, both of which are a traffic-free five minute drive down the hill. This place met all my vacation needs, and I'm going to re-book for next year before someone else takes the time I want.

Sunny side of the Big Island

Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/22/11

The listing and photos were accurate. The owners were easy to deal with on both a business level (when arranging the booking and payment) and on a personal level (when trying to strap a kayak to our vehicle or planning what to see and do each day). Great hosts. The owners live on-site in a rather nice house on a hillside. This "hideaway" and their one other rental unit are tucked partially under the home and partially extending out onto the big backyard. The entire west wall of the unit is windows (well just screens actually) and we found the unit bright and fresh. Without a/c it seemed to be a perfect 75 degrees all day long and 70 degrees all night long. We had a nice feeling of privacy in our unit. Occasionally we took a break from touring and lounged by the pool (beside the house) and felt very comfortable there too. It's a nice setup. The little town of Captain Cook and this rental unit are "off the map" - there's not a resort, hotel or night club for miles. It's a neat little spot surrounded by rural homes, small farms, local folk and nature. Visiting "Place of Refuge" (a couple miles down the road) was a great spot to snorkel or sit seaside and watch the sunset. Visiting "Painted Church" (walking distance) was a really nice afternoon walk on a country road. At Kona (maybe 30 minutes drive) the beaches are a bit warmer and sunnier but also busy, busy so we were happy each day coming back to our hideaway.

Paradise Found!

Guest: Greg and Sue (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/07/11 Review Submitted: 11/26/11

When we decided to go to the Big Island for our 20th wedding anniversary, I wanted to find a unique property worthy of our special celebration. Having booked a rental online on Kauai a few years ago, and being disappointed in the result, I was hesitant to do it again. But, I decided to try again and was excited to find the VRBO site. I ended up booking TWO places on VRBO; one on the Kona side and one in Volcano. I was overjoyed that both places exceeded my expectations. We stayed at Beth' Hawaiian Hideaway for about 10 days and didn't want to leave!! Beth and Dave are fantastic hosts as well as being genuinely nice people who really embody the "aloha spirit." To celebrate our anniversary, they had beautiful, yummy pastries waiting for us as well as a huge platter of fresh fruit: pineapple, papaya and bananas. Throughout our stay we would come home from a long day of adventures and find more fresh fruit on our doorstep. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to make home-cooked meals. I loved the way the unit was decorated (the website pictures are accurate), everything being carefully selected and lovingly displayed. We found the location very much to our liking because it is off-the-beaten path. The surrounding property is quiet and tranquil with gorgeous sunsets framed by giant Monkeypod trees. Beth and Dave are always available to answer questions, get things that you might need but remain behind the scenes if you want a lot of alone time. Dave helped us with the kayak we borrowed so we could explore "Two Step"--great place for snorkeling and spotting Spinner dolphins! I have only one caveat: if you are "creeped out" by lizards of any kind, you might be better off in a boring, hermetically-sealed, overpriced condo in Kona. The cute little geckos that come in and out of the unit are totally harmless and extremely photogenic--I have about a billion pictures of them! If you want a place where unforgettable vacation memories are made that is quaint, clean, moderately-priced, and just a little slice of paradise with awesome hosts who really care--stay at Beth and Dave's. You won't be sorry!

My husband and I had an amazing time spending our honeymoon here! Not only does the Hideway offer nearly everything you need for your stay, but its location provides a secluded paradise that is still just moments away from beaches, entertainment, and more! Beth and Dave are gracious hosts and have generously included everything you need for kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling (along with site recommendations too). The view from the cottage is impeccable and the grounds are filled with all sorts of delicious fruit trees, beautiful birds, and other lush landscape. The cottage itself was stocked with nearly everything we needed- from beach towels to cookware to Hawaii books of all topics; we felt at home during our stay. We can't wait to return and with out a doubt, highly-highly recommend this place for your Hawaiian vacation!

Paradise Honeymoon

Guest: Lewis S. (Berkeley, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/26/11 Review Submitted: 09/04/11

My new wife and I are just finishing our 10 day Honeymoon stay here. It has been wonderful. Dave and Beth have a beautiful, comfortable place. They have everything you could need. The space is aesthetically beautiful, attention was given to every detail from the flowers to the fresh fruit grown in the yard. The location is tranquil and feels secluded but is close to perfect spots for snorkeling, kayaking or even dinner out. It is a great home base to tour the Island. We went from the south tip to the volcano, up for one night in Hilo, returned through waterfalls and the beautiful Hawaii Botanical Garden. Our one night away made us realize how lucky we were to have found such a perfect place to stay. To top it off they provided all the gear we needed and showed us how to put in on our rental car. This saved us time and money and allowed us to try things we might never have otherwise (Paddle boarding). Whenever we needed something it miraculously appeared on our doorstep overnight. We can't thank Dave and Beth enough. Aloha! - Lew and Willow

Our stay in the Plumeria Suite was our first time in a vacation rental, and was a wonderful experience. Beth and Dave are excellent hosts and the suite itself is so charming and clean. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is the perfect, rural alternative for people who are not into resorts. We loved watching the sun set over the bay from our lanai, picking fresh fruit in the yard, and the 5-minute drive to Two-Step for amazing snorkeling. Beth and Dave have thought of everything and the suite is well-stocked with all kinds of goodies, cooking equipment, books, and outdoor gear. We arrived well after dark and Dave even ushered us in from the road with a flashlight. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

Excellent Cozy Cottage

Date of Stay: 08/11/11 Review Submitted: 09/05/11

We really enjoyed our stay in Beth & Dave's cottage! They were extremely nice, even so far as giving us a few pieces of bread when we forgot to get it at the local market! If you want a quiet, non-tourist part of Hawaii, this is a great way to go. The snorkeling at two-step was wonderful and a short drive. Kona is only 30-40 minutes away and some great swim/sand beaches about an hour away. The amenities inside the cottage were awesome (we made use of the aloe vera)! Having many choices for equipment was great too - being smaller in size I was amazed they had snorkel gear that fit! Thanks Beth & Dave for a wonderful place to stay!

First off, I have to say that Beth and David put a lot of love into there property. The studio is really romantic and homey, making it the ideal hideaway. my husband and I were very much in love with the place. The kitchen was perfect for our needs. Fresh fruits on the property including naval oranges Papaya and banana's it was the best fruit salad ever. It is minutes away from the best snorkeling on the island. And, a wonderful walk down at the historical city of refuge. Dave and Beth have so much info on the Big Island and the best places to go if you wanna stay away from the expensive touristy stuff. My favorite thing to do was watch the sunset and listen to the sounds of of the geckos and other wild life. It is truly and magical spot and I hope to be going back for another adventure in paradise.

If you want to be awakened by birds instead of garbage trucks. If you want to feel like you are alone in this paradise. This is for you. Just drove five mintues to two step and swam with dolphins. Don't pay for snorkel cruises, I've been to most of the snorkel spots on the island and two step is the best. Dave and Beth go above and beyond to make your vacation great. You will rarely see them if you choose but they will respond to your every need. I could go on and on. You just have to come here and see for yourself. Don and Peggy

We stayed at Beth's Hideaway for 3 nights in June. We loved it! All the comforts of home, and yet in the middle of Hawaii. So convenient to Kealakekua Bay and Two Step. We were able to go down each morning to the bay and see the spinner dolphins. One morning we took the kayak, paddled down to Captain Cook monument, and snorkled with the fish and the dolphins. Beth and Dave have everything you need for a fantastic vacation. Swim toys, kayaks, bicycles, pool, grill, you name it! P.S.- The resident geckos in the kitchen love a little papaya!

Even though I read the reviews, we still weren't prepared for this little slice of heaven, complete with our gecko roommates. At first I was taken back by the lack of A/C, with only screens on the windows, not glass. We soon realized the beauty of it as the altitude breezes kept us cool, augmented by the fan only on occasion. It was an absolute delight to have *fresh* air the entire time we were there - we slept beautifully, too. Even thought the eintre front of the unit is screen, it's still very private as there is just lawn and view in front of you. The only eyes on you might be the three geckos that hung out with us. Dave's directions were perfect and he met us on arrival, showing us the property, the backway out and the amenities, including the fresh fruit and coffee. We picked up a loaf of the Punalu'u bread for toast at the grocery store and that, combined with the fruit we had from Dave and Beth, with the coffee made a perfect breakfast each morning. We also brought back ribs for dinner one night, taking advantage of our little kitchen and dining area. We enjoyed using the kayak to go to Captain Cook Monument (which you can see from the unit), accompanied by dolphins, for great snorkeling. Also, the day we left we drove the 5 minutes to Two Steps to get a snorkel in at 7a and be back in time to leave for our early afternoon flight. It was a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday. It's not the resort feel of the Kona resorts, but it's a much more personal and immediate island experience. We loved it and we'll be back. Mahalo.

We have been to the big island several times but this trip was our favorite because we found Beth's Hawaiian Hideaway. The location is perfect for quick trips to fabulous snorkelling and kayaking spots, 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Kona (don't miss Kona Brewing Company and their seasonal coconut porter!) and 2 hours to the volcano and Hilo. The location is private with lush tropical trees and flowers all around but open to fabulous sunset views and Honaunau. We stayed for 9 days in the Paniolo King Suite and wanted for nothing except an even longer visit to enjoy the paddle boards, kayaks and bikes. We brought our own snorkel gear but there is plenty available for guests to use. We found fruit every day, either falling off trees onto the Painted Church road which we picked up on our walks and runs, or from the beautiful roadside fruit stand up the road. We just couldn't get enough of the pineapple, mango, papaya and avocado available on the island. Who knew there were over 120 varieties of avocado on island - we tried 7 ! The resident geckos were a real treat to watch especially at night when they went after the little bugs attracted to the lights. We are already making a plan to come back to this very special place with everything you could possibily need while in paradise.

Bird Wake-up Call

Guest: Wired in Brooke (British Columbia)
Date of Stay: 04/16/11 Review Submitted: 05/14/11

We came for 2 weeks and spent part of our time in each of the units. They each have a different character but are both very well-appointed, funky, artistic, loaded with books, and have GREAT mattresses. Oh yes! and did I mention my personal highlight which was the amazing bird song 'celebration' every single morning. The trees outside the units was glorious and alive. Big Island is getting more and more populated but Beth & Dave's place was like an oasis! The reviews before ours talk about how great Dave and Beth are and how wonderfully appointed the units are... right on! IF you want a chilled out place far from the crowd , far from the typical hotel/condo/timeshare craziness... this is your place. If you love nature and the slower pace of being a bit off the beatne track ... stay here. We loved it!

Honestly, the pictures they have posted do not do this place justice! Beth did an amazing job decorating the suite. The property was spotless, and had so many books on the area. Beth and Dave even had a binder containing close restaturant spots and their reviews, which was so helpful!! The fresh fruit upon arrival was also a really nice touch! We loved using their snorkel gear and boogie boards! I really cannot say enough good things about the hideaway! We have reccomended it to everyone and would like to be back there as soon as possible!

This place is magical. My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay here for ten days. Our hosts Beth and Dave were lovely. They both are very friendly and kind. They helped make our stay extremely enjoyable and really did accomodate us in anything we asked. We loved the fresh fruit and the avocados. We loved the location of the property. We loved that it is so close to great water activities (paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling) and beautiful sunsets. The unit is well stocked in everything and decorated as a beach home should be. When we didn't want to go to the beach the pool was lovely alternative. I would highly recommend this place and also let travelers know that when I say this place has it all I mean it. You could very easily vacation here and only have carry on luggage. They have thought of everything. We started our vacation a little worn out, a little frazzled and ended it tanned, refreshed and ready to take on the world again. Thank you Dave and Beth for making us feel so welcome in your slice of paradise. We truly loved our stay with you two and enjoyed the accomodations. We hope to see you again soon.

Whimsically decorated, perfectly located, the Plumeria Queen is truly a dream! A superb choice for an active vacation, it's close to a number of great sites for snorkeling and kayaking (including Honaunau less than 3 miles away). If you get tired of the water, there are also several historical and cultural sites nearby, including the Honaunau Place of Refuge Park and the Painted Church. Either way, after a day out exploring, it's a delight to return to the cozy, home-like suite and quiet, pastoral location. (There are plenty of good eateries a short drive away, so you won't go hungry either!) Hosts Dave and Beth are super-friendly and helpful; mahalo to them both for sharing their wonderful slice of paradise with us!

Amazing location, great accommodations, and exceptional hosts! Highly recommend this vacation hideaway. Easy travel to other parts (sights, town) of the island, but far enough away to give a non-touristy experience. Beth and Dave are a wealth of knowledge and advice, helping to suggest itineraries and new places. We enjoyed waking up to the sun rise, taking a short drive to two-step for some morning swimming and beach reading, then stopping at Coffee and Epicurea for a nice iced coffee under the shade of the back patio. EVERYTHING we could possibly need was provided (both in terms of accommodations and equipment--snorkel gear, surf/boogie boards, kayaks, bikes, etc), not to mention delicious fresh fruit upon our arrival. Don't look further than this listing if you want to stay on Kona, you wont regret it!

Unforgettable Beth's Hideaway

Guest: Alexander (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/11/10 Review Submitted: 12/30/10

My bride and I stayed at this truly remarkable property for 2 weeks in late December 2010. It is conveniently located within 2 ml from historic refuge place on the ocean, about 5 ml from Captain Cook beach, 2 Hrs drive from Volcano Park, and under 1 Hr drive from major tourist areas in Kona. The proprietors are most friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. They are too pleased to see the guests relax. The property is spacious and spotless. There are plenty of cooking utensils and appliances to whip up s gourmet meal or to experiment with Hawaiian cooking from several recipe handily available in the kitchen. Incidentally, beside a bookcase, there are many books on Hawaiian history and culture at every spare shelf and tabletop to make any library envious. There are plenty of snorkels, masks, fins lounge chairs, straw mats to fit an army. Yet, there are only 2 apartments on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The photos depict only some of the beauty of the cottage like setting. The guest book is full of visitors’ admirations and gratitude’s. Bring your GPS device for nearby attractions.

The place is very charming and you immediatley feel right at home. We enjoyed sitting by the pool for morning coffee or an evening barbecue. The location is minutes away from the best snorkeling we've experienced. Beth and Dave, thank you for a wonderful stay. All these reviews are correct! The place was wonderful and perfect for a couple to getaway. Having the kayak on hand is really helpful and the snorkeling down at the Captain Cook Monument is some of the best I've ever done (and I've snorkeled the Great Barrier reef). We couldn't have asked for a better vacation!

There is not much more that we can add to the previous reviews; Beth's Hawaiian Hideway is perfect in everyway especially if you just want to relax and have some fun in a beautiful, peaceful, intimate setting. Our visit was too short, I didnt get a chance to bbq or pick a good read from the great library. WE loved the location and the recommendations from Dave and Beth on where the best snorkeling and beaches were they were right on. This listing is just what it says..very romantic, comfortable, Hawai'i no e ka 'oi!!

We stayed for 10 days in Beth's Paniolo suite and thoroughly enjoyed our time. There were lots of highlights including watching the spinner dolphins "perform" in the bay (amazing snorkeling there too) a few minutes down the hill, trying out all the weird and wonderful tropical fruit from the market up the hill, and lots of volcano themed hikes. We also liked the Hawaiian history books that filled the shelves in the suite. Particularly nice was taking a book out with a coffee or cold beer and reading by the pool while watching the sun set through the big tree. Thanks very much Beth and Dave you are wonderful hosts! A very special place - 4 nights in Kona

It's hard to write this review because we had such a wonderful time at Beth's place that not only was it hard to leave, every time I remember staying there it's challenging to come back to real life! An earlier reviewer used the word 'magical'..that is exactly true. Basics: There were two of us, my wife and I, and we both enjoy outdoor and water activities, and were looking for a place to base ourselves so we could relax after many hours of activities. Information on activities and restaurants in the area is provided(terrific job by Dave to put a nice binder together as well as all the Hawaii books), and Beth was a wonderful in speaking to us and guiding our activities. We cooked and everything we needed was already there in terms cookware, cutlery, basics(salt, pepper, oil etc), leading to some relaxing meals by the pool where we just looked out and were mesmerized by the garden and the ocean. In the mornings my wife would wonder where I'd disappeared to for 15-20 minutes...I was looking for mangoes in their mango trees, I can't remember the last time I had such delicious mangoes(I ate so many that I made myself sick). Beth's place is about 20-30 mins from the airport and Kona and is in a residential area, so if you're looking for hustle and bustle of the city or resort (which we weren't), this might not be the place for you. That said, with the closeness of terrific snorkeling and kayaking nearby at Captain Cook and Two step, you could spend a few days within 5-10 minutes driving to swim with turtles, kayak with spinner dolphins, see beautiful reefs and fish. Beth has all the equipment for you to borrow for these adventures - including snorkels, fins, floater noodles kayaks, boogie boards, etc. BTW if you're going to Volcano(1.5 hours away) and you're really into hiking...check out the all day hiking trail route to Pu'u O'o volcano described in the Ultimate Kona guidebook, we didn't get a chance to do it, but wished we had more time to. This was our first time in Kona and Hawaii and whenever we travel, we always say we will not go to the same place twice. However, after staying at Beth's place, my wife and I both agreed we would have to come back.

"My first trip to Hawaii could not have been more magical. Staying at Beth and Dave's place was simply great. Every detail was accurately represented in their property description. If anything, it was way BETTER than they had put into their entry. Charming is an understatement. The place is oozing the creative character in gracious style of the hosts. All the amenities were great, including some bells and whistles that one doesn't normally expect - kayaks, bikes, pool, etc. Beth & Dave where helpful, knowledgeable and lovely to be around. The location was wonderful, close to fantastic snorkeling and some of the best sea kayaking of my life. We actually had 2 humpbacks breach 20 ft. off our sea kayak one sunset outing at Pt. of Refuge!!! WOW!!! If you are interesting in experiencing some outrageous nature and staying in a comfortable home-like setting it can't be beat. This is a fantastic accomodation and we will definately be recommending it to friends and family. More importantly, we'll be coming back to paradise to stay here again. We already miss our gecko friends we made there. Thanks again! Carin & Casey Gresham, Oregon

Dave and Beth were wonderful Hosts. Dave was particularly helpful in providing insight into the nearby sights, water activities and recommending restaurants and grocery stores. There was also a wealth of useful information in the hideaway. Dave was available to load kayaks on the car. The location is perfect for using all the water toys. Beth did an outstanding job of decorating and the place was spanking clean. The fruit and treats were delightful, The sunset is spectacular! There was so much to do and see that a week was hardly enough. We'd definitely go back and recommend the hideaway to others.

Would highly recommend Beth & Dave's place to anyone who appreciates gracious and knowledgeable hosts, with a great physical setting that allows both privacy and a feeling of being at a home rather than a resort. The accommodations are well kept, and Beth & Dave have great demeanor and are more than willing to share their knowledge of the local surroundings. The listing doesn't do justice to the sunset views, and their are several local restaurants and beaches in the area they recommended that are well worth the trip. The Painted Church is also very well worth a visit.

My wife and I are so thrilled that we found this place for our first visit to Hawaii. If you wish to immerse yourself in the south Kona countryside and experience the true beauty of the big island, this is the place for you. The Paniolo King Suite is colorful, wonderfully decorated, and is so comfortable. The unit faces the ocean and to our surprise, the windows only have screens on them. (Unthinkable in Illinois) But we very quickly realized that this only enhanced our experience, and we always felt comfortable. We like to venture out and see nature wherever we travel, and found this location to be only minutes away from awesome sites, some of the best snorkeling, and beaches we will never forget. Thank you Beth and Dave for making our first visit to the big island so great. And for helping us realize this will not be our last. Dan and Allison, March 2010.

For the price, this can't be beat! The location is excellent! 2 minute drive down the hill and you are at 2-step for snorkeling and awesome sunsets. Short drive up the road and you are at the bay to kayak/snorkel at Captain Cook. It was wonderful waking up in the morning hearing all the different birds chriping....made us feel like we were in a tree house. Fresh fruit on the grounds was wonderful. Beth and Dave are fabulous hosts with great recommendations. There are a ton of books in the Hideaway on Hawaii which was very helpful. As cheezy as we are we had to watch Hawaii 5-0 a few times. House gecko's turned nightlight gecko's were entertaining. Overall, fabulous, relaxing, adventerous vacation. Remember your Big Island Revealed Blue Book!

We had such a great stay here; the decor is so charming and comfortable. The fresh fruit grown right out the back door was amazing! The location is wonderful; quiet and secluded, but easily accessible to everywhere you want to go on the Big Island. I had a great time reading all about Hawaii in the wonderful books in the suite. Dave and Beth were wonderful, hospitable and informative without being intrusive. Mahalo for the perfect honeymoon!

My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in the Paniolo Suite (August, 2009). We were surprised to find an entire wall of screen, but quickly adjusted to an island frame of mind. Dave & Beth were wonderful hosts. They even coordinated with my sister to supply a bottle of bubbly on our anniversary. The suite was comfortable and lovely. Great location if you like to snorkel: 2 Step and Cook Monument are both close. Don't plan to sleep late, though. The neighborhood roosters never take a morning off. This was no problem for us. We didn't want to waste any daylight. Too much to do and see on the Big Island. Enjoy!

We spent a week here and truly enjoyed every relaxing minute. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation away from the city, this is the place for you. The hosts, Beth and Dave, were very welcoming and provided anything you could ask for. We especially appreciated all of the fresh fruit along with the fun sporting equipment. You will need a car since the cottage is about 30 min south of Kona. It is in a beautiful location and we really enjoyed the area of lush fruit trees and coffee plantations. We have already recommended our friends and family to stay there. When you visit, make sure to check out Jake's BBQ!

This is certainly another positive comment like all of the rest listed before us. Out of the mainstream of the Kona resort area but close enough for visiting. Spectacular snorkling and kayaking within minutes. Dave and Beth are great hosts and have great knowledge of the island and great places to visit - they have the first hand experience - when they say "don't miss this spot" don't miss it! The view from the window, fresh breezes through the screens, you donn't want to miss. Beth's collection of Hawaiian literature was particularily fun to browse while enjoying Kona coffee as we planned the day's activities. We can't wait to return

5/22/09-6/11/09 We loved our stay at Beth and Davids cottage. Wonderful pool, beautiful yard with fruit trees. They are wonderful hosts. Furnished Kyak, snorking gear, bikes, yard games for their beautiful large grass yard. Only a few minutes away from Puu'hanaua O Honoaunau,(city of Refuge) and the kyaking and snorking with the dolphins at Kealakekua, bay. If you want an old Hawaii private place to stay for two, or rent the other apartment for two also you won't find a better place near Kona. We have been visiting Hawaii every two years for 20 years and this is the best place yet. Shirlee & Bill Morgan Harrison,Ohio U.S.A.

This property is a real hidden gem. It is close (a few minutes drive) to the best snorkelling on the island near the Place of Refuge. It is a private, beautiful set up and it was a real pleasure to stay there. The pool and BBQ area is a real advantage on the aftenoons after a day site seeing to the volcano or snorkelling in the bay. Everthing we needed for a great holiday was provided. The apartment we stayed in was really well designed, cleverly decorated, very comfortable for two, and spotlessly clean! It exceeded our expectations and is great value for money. Maholo Beth and Dave

Dear Dave & Beth We had an absolutely fabulous time in your Hideaway. It is the morning of July 5th and Lisa & I are both very sad to leave your Kona getaway. Lisa was able to swim with the dolphins on her 40th birthday! The rental was perfect. We enjoyed all the amenities. 5 minutes from Honaunau and amazing snorkeling. We loved grilling fresh fish from Kona Seafood and having lunch at Jake's BBQ. I could happily stay here for another week. We appreciate your hospitality and ability to provide a unique private setting so close to so much wonderful nature. I will miss waking up to the sound of song birds. We hope to visit again. Best of luck and thank you. Lisa & Ben Seattle, WA

We had a wonderful time here-stayed three weeks and would have loved to have made it longer. Their place is charming, excellently located (we could easily get to any point on the island and back within a day) and is a real bargain. A+
